I’ll brave it some weeks but it’s just gets a PITA cleaning bike and kit all the time

that's what I use too for cleaning the bike etc. Got some nice thin ones that take up no space in the pack.

I also thought about using cable ties. A bit wasteful but you could use them in a pinch on the trail.

I'm going to use this for cleaning the bike and lubing the chain. TBH, I'm kind of embarrassed for not thinking of it myself...

I use (releasable) Zip Ties. You should always have some with you anyway.
