The country consists of 2 main islands which both bear many unique features. The North Island is shaped by isolated stratovolcanoes which cover the "North Island Volcanic Plateau" where as the South Island, also called Te Waipounam is shaped by the Southern Alps which run across almost the entirety of the country, the Fjordland region on the the western coast and the lush plains east of the southern alps.

Abel Tasman's arrival predates James Cook by 100 years. However, the Dutch agenda at that time didn't include the circumnavigation Cook is credited with.
Hi
Kinship and nature. And war. (Knowing how to fight, will make the British rather peaceful)
Crazy to think that colonialism was peaceful
…huh?
Oh it certainly wasn't, look up the New Zealand wars if your're interested. The Maori were't peacful, they were some of the most mighty warriors to ever exist
It was only "peaceful" when compared to other colonies
Wait til you hear about the Moriori genocide by the Maori
This video glosses over the colonial struggle in New Zealand. I guess it was relatively peaceful but comparing examples of colonialism in terms of how bad the colonial power acted is very cringe.
