Everything is abysmal and our brain accumulated and soon removed too many terrible plot and character choices (anyone remember the giant tardigrade and the buffed spore-drive,the klingon sexual abuse of Tayler or the simple crazy fact that Burnham instead of rotting in jail for having caused a galactic war with milions of deaths ...has become space jesus?)

I love Trek so much, I love the diverse, accepting, hopeful future of humanity. I love the (mostly) intelligent writing of everything before the Abrams movies. NuTrek has reduced the franchise down to empty imagery, misunderstood references and interchangeable characters. NuTrek wants to destroy everything that came before it. I want nothing to do with it.

So the tech couldn't bring life back to the dead, and Moll's story just stops and is pointless.
And Burnham just throws away the McGuffin because it's pointless?
And it's pointless because there's already infinite diversity and infinite combination? Didn't she know that's exactly what the philosophy is based on already? I mean that's basically the philosophy. Did the writers not know this? Did they think it was a rallying cry for more racial diversity? The word diversity back then didn't automatically connote racial diversity. It was a word that described actual diversity - not racial diversity.. that is how we use the term today. It's not possible how to exaggerate how idiotic these people are.
This is got to be the dumbest episode in the entire franchise.

All other trek shows that have ended have left me sad, feeling for all the main characters, and this was the complete opposite - I only know 4 or 5 of the characters by name, and that sums it up

  • @CharlesCorp
    @CharlesCorp 4 месяца назад +2

The end is here, however if you watched carefully throughout this season there was a hinted out several times in several episodes another aspect normally not discussed really much in the 'trek' universe, and that is G_D. The whole series this season suggests this and gets very strong with the doctor and what is noted in the final episode. I did think during the final (heavy spoiler here) when Burnham meets with the Projenitor based on their discussion and actual words spoken, that the series would be pulling a 'see she really is Space Jesus' -- or literally making Burnham the BESTEST EVAR and the whole Universe controlled and resolving around her -- making her G_D. Fortunately that did not happen -- but it was strongly written to suggest this, since the Projenitor actually SAYS THIS -- you will control, you will decide , you are G_D. As to the final scene with Discovery, they have to do this to tie up the short-trek episode where discovery is found deep in space many years in the future -- why because the script says so - but ties up that loose end. The whole emotional (was it supposed to be) at the end with everyone -- even the OTHER crew members who finally came back for what is essentially very quick cameos i guess they let them off the ISS Enterprise, but because (at least for me who watched this entire 5 years) did not have any attachment to any character, we are not (i am not) emotionally involved here or sad, this is not Kirk and Spock etc.. no I really did not feel anything. Over the 5 years of episodes I think perhaps at most i have 5 that i actually truly enjoyed including I have to admit this one this season with the time-travel episode -- just because i found it enjoyable. I too i guess will 'miss' Discovery, why -- well i will tell you -- because I love watching this channel and Nitpicking nerd tear these shows up each week -- really makes my day !! Here's to the end of StarTrek Disgracery -- unfortunately Doom Cock gave up on STD years ago so i could not enjoy his reviews on it !! LOL

6:55 Its the most easiest puzzle you can imagine. "Build the form of the one between the many", so my first thoughts were to build a triangle with the little ones on the outside. And guess whats the solution, exactly that. Without the riddle itself, you would try the form Moll did at first, thats how the scientist died and then try the second form i suggested. No knowledge required at all. Btw, can somebody explain to me why Moll has shot the Breen? She is their leader and want to secure the bloodline by resurrecting La'ak, so why were they fighting?

This was pointless as usual. A few things... 1) The Discovery was already using the A extension. It was recommissioned NCC-1031-A shortly after arriving in the future. 2) The Progenitor reveals that they found that tech, but then later says that they were the only species in the galaxy. LOL!!!! 3) Cronenberg reveals he's Crewman Daniels, the time agent from Enterprise, but then goes on to say he's from the USS Enterprise. But Archer's ship was the NX-01 Enterprise. Memory Alpha calls it the USS Enterprise, but that's not how the show's characters described it. 4) Discovery ends similar to the way Battlestar Galactica ends - foolishly, as if they are luddites. 5) Burnham's son isn't captain of the Discovery-A. The robots were removing the A from the ship as they reverted it back to pre-refit configuration, so they could park it in a nebula... for reasons. This is convoluted nonsense to line up with the short Trek we kept wondering about. 6) Hugging and crying. Even the thumbnail for the episode is Burnham and Saru hugging and crying. Just uhrgh.

Point #2 makes sense... because the tech could've been from a species that had gone extinct, thereby making them the only species in the galaxy. Although, technically, their original claim of being the only life was immediately countered by them claiming they seeded the primordial oceans of many worlds where life was in its infancy... what they should've said is they were the only complex life in the universe, since a single-celled organism is still an organism.

    • @trueLuminus
      @trueLuminus 4 месяца назад

@@ChrissonatorOFL I thought about that and my conclusion is the same. They didn't know who built it, so they couldn't have known that there was no other species in the galaxy, because they didn't even know the tech was there to begin with.

The biggest failing of this series for me (besides the poor storytelling) is the characters. They just are not characters I want to tune in to watch every week or spend time with. TNG is my favourite Trek series and it’s because I love the ensemble, I can get endless joy out of watching them even when the content of the episode they’re in is bad - I can’t say anywhere near the same for this show. Nobody has charisma, nobody has an interesting personality and nobody feels like they belong on a galaxy class starship.

Well that was all full of sound & fury...
But I will say that many of the visuals were absolutely gorgeous. If only they had spent as much money on a writing team as they did on the FX team we might have had a better story.
I'm not sure if this finale is better than "These are the Voyages..." it might be.
I bugs me that this season wrapped nothing really up. Think of how "All Good Things..." resolved the trial arc that Q had started in the pilot. That was clever. Even Voyager...the last line of the series was the same as the last line of the pilot. Thought was put into these. Discovery is just all "here's some stuff that happened, with lower stakes than what you'd find at a dwarf vampire hunter convention, and Burnham lives happily ever after".
I know you laughed a lot, DM, but I was genuinely saddened because after what, 60 years of Trek and peripheral science fiction, THIS is the best they had to offer us?
My thoughts about this episode while watching:
    - Burnham reasons that the progenitor tech must be in the light then appears to go a different direction.
    - When on the windy planet, why doesn't Burnham put on her Breen helmet? Not only would it protect her from the elements but it would also offer her a disguise if Moll or the other Breen comes across her.
    - You think the magic phasers would come with a strap so you don't drop it in the wind....or at the very least collapse back into wherever they hide.
    - Nice of the wind to die down right after the fight.
    - That whole "ride the wind" thing seemed unnecessary. There was a rock right there that lead back to the portal.
    - Well I guess that takes care of the two Breen. Wait...there was a third?
    - They have magic phasers that pop out of the wrist but not magic dermal regenerators to immediately heal cuts? Oh Michael has one to spare. Wonder why Moll didn't?
    - Why did Moll attack the Breen? They were working for her.
    - I guess the little Breen fighters don't have tractor beams to go and get the portal?
    - Pink lens flares on the pink planet.
    - This place reminds me of the spaghetti junction from the Primeval series.
    - Why did Moll follow after throwing Burnham into the fire world? Just let her burn.
    - I don't think Moll has really been set up as a major villain/boss level for Michael. This whole showdown feels unearned, especially when half of the episodes had Book interacting with Moll.
    - You'd think engineering would have their hands full in the battle...but I guess they were sitting around with a solution waiting for Book.
    - Hugh's story arc doesn't make sense with respect to his need to help Book.
    - So much for a passionate possible final goodbye between two lovers. Just a quick peck out of fear of an audience that doesn't want to see men kissing.
    - Why would Moll believe Michael? She's already betrayed their "deal" once.
    - When Burnham talked about losing someone that meant everything I thought she meant Georgiou. I guess that's all ancient history now.
    - It'd be a great twist if Moll used L'ak's body as a weapon against Michael.
    - Igniting the plasma was such an obvious solution...don't know why they bothered "avoiding" it because of the danger. Just poor writing.
    - What's a pathfinder drive? Is that a Barclay/Voyager reference?
    - "Is there technology here?" ask Moll, as she walks beside a path that leads to a glowing circle up ahead. Is Moll blind?
    - Was it previously revealed to us a scientist was killed there?
    - All those punches and hits and it's one blow to the back of the head that knocks Michael out?
    - I guess Moll should have chosen the triangle of a carpenter instead of the triangle of a king (Last Crusade reference).
    - How can it draw energy from a black hole? Black holes consume all energy.
    - How did the little Breen ships not see that explosion coming?
    - Michael's shock at seeing the progenitor doesn't make sense when they're known to have ancient, functional holographic technology.
    - Too bad they couldn't get Salome Jens for the progenitor.
    - Hugh suddenly is connected to the universe? What?
    - "Ferengi Rummy?" why not Tongo...an actual Ferengi card game?
    - I love how Hugh is having this big soliloquy about meaning and mystery and Book's only contributions are "yeah" and "uh-huh".
    - The Emerald Chain hijacked Discovery and jumped with it. Don't know why they're talking about how impossible it is to jump something other than their ship.
    - So nobody outside needed Michael's help...they were all fine without her.
    - What happened to the ticking clock of radiation risk that Book and Hugh were facing?
    - This progenitor explains their motivations differently than the one from "The Chase".
    - One last goodcry from Michael.
    - I'm surprised that they couldn't revive L'ak.
    - Book really has no good lines in this episode. Did they forget to write for him?
    - Adira's dime-store philosophy doesn't seem all that wise.
    - I'm surprised the sickbay has a monitor above Moll's head; you'd think it'd be floating holography like everything else in the 31st century.
    - Ugh...the pathetic memberberries at the end.
    - Agent Daniels...USS Enterprise? Really? That's the big reveal with Kovich?
    - Did Admiral Vance address Saru as "Admiral"? I thought he was an ambassador.
    - Would it be an ethnic slur to call a Kelpian "crabby"?
    - Talaxian pirates? Just all the namedrops.
    - How old is her son that's he's getting to be captain of the Discovery-A? How much time has passed?
    - That shuttle looks like a bit like an Orville shuttle.
    - 47 on the shuttle
    - What does Burnham refer to Book as "Book" to their son?
    - Aside from Book, Burnham, and Tilly, we don't really know what happened to the rest of the crew.
    - And for everyone who remembers that Short Trek with Aldus Hodge...this last scene ties back into that.

18:55 "You can do that with a lot of New Trek, you can just separate it off, and say that's just someone's attempt to do Star Trek, and it's failed. And that's what I'm going to do. Discovery, for me, will always fall into a completely different universe."
    Agreed.
Over 100 people have written Sherlock Holmes stories (now that the character is in the public domain). No attempt is made by all the different writers to avoid contradicting each other's stories. It isn't necessary, and it would probably be impossible. So, Star Trek has different timelines, lots of them. And Discovery is in its own little poisonous universe, which I will avoid like a Ceti eel.

    • @JamesFuentes526
      @JamesFuentes526 4 месяца назад +1

That's true but the problem is that all writers want to go back to this particular time and that's what should be avoided. Star Trek was about moving forward and this prequel crap always seems to ruin the potential of a series. If Enterprise was set after Voyager, we'd have a great first episode that could have the Voyager crew cameo and send off the new series crew to deal with issues of a post war Federation. How are the Klingons, Romulans and Federation rebuilding? What's Cardassia's role in Alpha Quadrant politics. What is exploration like in the Gamma Quadrant without interference from the Dominion. What if ships were sent to Gamma Quadrant to circle around and try to explore parts of the Delta Quadrant that are closest to the Gamma Quadrant and maybe see some familiar Delta Quadrant species?

they were actually removing the A from Disco so Burnham could bail it out 900 more years so Craft could take it (as seen in Calypso)
i was afraid they were gonna give him the Enterprise-R (the refit ISS-Enterprise) because the official Disco page on FaceBook was showing off an Ent-R Constellation class with loose floating nacelles and everything
but how did Disco jump at the end? i would have prefered hearing Burnham do the "Space, the final frontier....." speech and warped off at the end.... not jumped
and Owo and Detmer showed up for Michael's memory but not Saru's wedding? lol
this season may have still been slightly better than Picard season 2, but not by much.
When Snrange New Worlds is the "this is the good one" series you got a problem nu-Trek. lol
let Metalas take the wheel and at least try to steer away from the cliff (kurtzman just keeps pressing the gas pedal harder)

I thought you were going to use one of those confetti poppers and celebrate at the start of the video. I was so underwhelmed. It seriously didn't even feel like a SERIES finale...just...another season finale. This show sucked, but it did give us some "New era Trek" that others have found the classic Trek through, so I can compliment STD for at LEAST doing that.

Also, this show occurs in a different reality than Canon. I don't care what they say they have done too many things that don't make sense. I've seen some interesting theories about this but I lean towards a completely different, fan fiction-y type of reality , a la Rings of Power to Arda....😊
