Discovery Season 5 FINAL TRAILER. My thoughts/Reaction #startrek #nutrek #startrekdiscovery #review
I am glad this wasn't done at the end of Generations all those years ago - it hits much harder now that Leonard Nimoy has passed. Also, for William Shatner, it was his fond farewell to Leonard Nimoy as he did not attend his funeral, and for Kirk, it was his final moment with his best friend Spock It was a brilliant piece of cinematography, beautiful in every sense, and for me as a fan of trek for almost 50 years, it was perfection ❤ P.S thank you Star Trek Discovery - the best thing that came out of your car crash stories by a zillion miles was the time travelling trans-dimensional agent to allow this incredible epilogue to take place 👍 P.P.S isn't Spocks son 1/4 human and 3/4's Vulcan? 🤔
at 42 years old, who never watched TOS until my 20's, TNG was my jam while growing up in the 90's. I cried my eyes out by the end of Unification. LLAP, all.
4:08 "I can literally just picture Shatner, eating an apple, and turning to Kurtzman and saying, "I don't like to lose." " A truly outstanding comment!!!
I felt that I was seeing Kirk's moments just after he crossed over and being there for Spock when he wakes up on the other side to find Kirk there with him. Like so many I cried every time I watched it. The tears were of gratitude for this moment that rights a huge wrong not just for the ending of Generations but for everything that came after 2005.
Good bye Star Trek, It was fun while it lasted
If this results in the appreciation of classic Star Trek, then we will truly have much to be thankful for.
We the fans can't decide whether to laugh or cry, Or should we be happy or sad, If Star Trek is still alive or grasping it's last breath, i honestly don't know, but it feels like an A.I assisted last good bye
It was great and kind of sad😢
Missed the live steam last night but catch-up tonight. Loved it
I have to put an asterisk next to this _Unification_ because they couldn’t help themselves injecting _Nu Trek_ into this otherwise great production.
I like how Terry Matalas put that Captain Kirk Easter egg in Star Trek Picard: Season 3 with the medical monitor that is "monitoring" Kirk's body on Daystrom Station, and now Otoy has seemingly expanded on that Easter egg by actually bringing Captain Kirk BACK to the land of the living. I'm just wondering how Gary Mitchell was involved in Kirk's resurrection? My interpretation is this: At the end of Star Trek: Generations, Kirk appeared to have died but really didn't (and Picard buried Kirk, thinking he really was dead). Picard removed Kirk's Starfleet badge and placed it on the rock pile. Some time later, Spock visited Kirk's grave site and took Kirk's Starfleet badge (and at some point that alien guy got Kirk's badge). A little later on, Starfleet arrived and removed both Kirk's body and the Enterprise D saucer section from Veridian III. Kirk's body was taken to and stored at Daystrom Station (according to what we see in that Easter egg in Star Trek: Picard Season 3. Kirk's body, now in stasis, is now being monitored by some sort of medical stations showing different angles of his skeletal structure (we see one of these medical stations in Picard Season 3 and a few more of thee medical stations in footage from other OTOY shorts). A fan also said that they were able to see some of the small text written on one of the medical stations monitoring Kirk's body on Daystrom Station and the text says something like "Captain James T. Kirk was CRITICALLY wounded on Veridian III helping Captain Jean-Luc Picard defeat Soran" (CRITICALLY wounded...not MORTALLY or FATALLY wounded). Also, the words "Project Phoenix" were also seen in the small text on that medical monitoring station in relation to Kirk being in stasis. At some point, Starfleet finds a way to resurrect Kirk using Project Phoenix (is Gary Mitchell involved in this somehow?) A newly resurrected Kirk is now seen walking toward a crowd of people that includes Saavik and the son she made with Spock. An alien dude gives Kirk BACK the badge that Picard had removed from Kirk's uniform when Picard was burying Kirk on Veridian III. Kirk goes to some mysterious place and encounters two versions of his younger self, after which he puts his Starfleet badge BACK ON and then is immediately sent to the Kelvin universe, where he visits a dying Spock before Spock passes away. None of this is the Nexus or the afterlife because if Kirk was in the afterlife, he would not be visiting a dying Spock because a dying Spock would not be in the afterlife, he would still be in the land of the living. Also, if this was the afterlife, that means Kirk was seeing Saavik and her son in the afterlife as well, which means by the time the short movie is over, there would be three dead Vulcans (Spock, Saavik and their son, which would royally suck). This is not Kirk's ghost from the afterlife visiting a dying Spock, because I doubt a spiritual form (a Kirk ghost) could physically interact with living flesh and bone (Kirk and Spock clasped hands in friendship in this OTOY short, just like they did in Star Trek: The Motion Picture). To me, this is a resurrected Kirk visiting Spock to say goodbye to him before Spock passes away...again.
Extra cheers for the Akira class. Sexiest class of ship within sci-fi, imo
Chef's kiss for the video, Unification. It is quite odd that it is 'unlisted.' Wonder why?
I'm not a fan of any of the new Star Trek shows, they don't feel like Trek to me. It's so tiring watching the copium around SNW. It's shít and lacks the depth of character TNG and DS9 has. Like DIS, they are all space babies. I would love to see a modern day DS9. But I'm afraid it will just end up being a load of liberals crying and hugging each other. What made DS9 so absolutely brilliant was the dark characters such as Garek and Dukat. The raw hatred the Cardassians and Bajorans had for each other was put across so well. I could go on all day about why that show was so good. Just pure brilliance, no effects required. I think the reason why it's not possible to create a decent Trek is because society has changed so much since the 90s. People are more interested in how Tilly handles her mental health vs a complex deep dive into the mind of a Cardassian Gul. Getting your entertainment from 30 second tiktok videos will do that to a society. It dumbs down a society to the point where they are only capable of producing surface level entertainment. I'll play devils advocate and say Abrams movies are entertaining, annoying stories but I still get a buzz out of some of the action scenes. I'm one of those weird Trekkies that thinks the movies should be action, and the TV shows cerebral. But again, this is why DS9 is so brilliant, a station that doesn't move forces them to come up with more character based stories. You can't have rubbish acting on a space station as it would be the most boring Star Trek ever. Yet, in my book, DS9 is a master piece.
My issue with modern Trek is the aesthetics. The whole neon vibe is basically 80s blade runner with better graphics. It's dystopian and horrible. Why does TNG feel good? Because it's designed like a cruise liner, with natural hues and soft edges. You might think this doesn't matter, but it's all subconscious and absolutely does. Humans are at their most comfortable around nature, and architects design living spaces to emulate and offer that comfort. It's unrealistic to assume star ships are going to be these sterile environments depicted in new Trek. It's more likely they would be far more natural, with living walls and plant life integrated with technology, because that's what people would want. I know I'm going off on a tangent, but this really is my issue here. Modern design sucks because we are basically using 80s neon. Todays sci fi is going to look incredibly dated in 20 years time, whereas 90s Trek will continue to be timeless, because they got the design right.
Something that undercuts the entire premise of this movie is that if you're a civilization with transporter technology you're essentially immortal and with planning you can be young forever.. All you have to do is keep your transporter pattern as you were when you were 25 years old and then, once at 80 or 90 years old, you're ready to be young again, just go through the transporter and have yourself put back together using the "25-year-old-me' pattern for your body but keeping your 80 year old brain and personality. Immortality.
Will you guys/lady talk about fan productions like, Aximar?
The woman commentator needs either a better mike or higher volume gain on her mike..
A better microphone, please!
You speak soo little, but provide quite valuable commentary. Yet your voice is quite compromised because of the tech you apparently utilize. Quite apropos, I suppose??
I think liberals are getting off of Twitter because it's being taken over by Trump supporters and also those who just lie and just full of propaganda. Twitter probably overreacted and tried to regulate some of this stuff, but they didn't want to be a mouthpiece for Russian propaganda. So what are you going to do? It seems to me that if you're anyone - even a celebrity - you have a duty to tell the truth. Especially so since the alternative is horrific. You know millions are going to lose health insurance when they get rid of the ACA. Kids and families will be uprooted when they do deportations. And the cuts to social security will be pretty dramatic for elderly people. It's difficult to know exactly what they will do and what they won't do but the tariffs could be catastrophic to the country.
The retrospective series is tops! The various episode rants will have you praying for UKDangerman's mental health. All the livestreams have been fun. Please subscribe and tune-in anyone watching.
Thank you my friend. Very much appreciated. ❤️👍
Rest Easy Legend
Well done. Ty.
This is an excellent collection. So well produced. Great video. Thanks
DS9 is my favourite series, and I've been a Trek lifer since '87. I've seen every series, live action and Animated, and movie's. THIS episode is my top 5 greatest stories of Trek. Tony Todd should have received an Oscar, little lone Emmy. I know Oscar's are just for movies, just saying. RIP Tony, and thank you from the bottom of my heart! 🤘😎🖖🇨🇦...Q'aPla!!
You had a great story with your father. I am happy for you. Unfortunately, he died too soon. Unfortunately, my father and I didn't have a good story. The fact that he turned 80 and then found out about his death 6 months later wasn't so great. I love Star Trek till 2005... Thank you for your Story. RIP Tony Todd
That I did, I'm so sorry things didn't happen the same for you. ❤️
I'd take advice from Captain Jean-Luc Picard, I won't take advice from Patrick Stewart. Picard was a well read, diplomatic, career military man who experienced a lot. P-Stew just remembers words and then recites them in a convincing way. They aren't experts on policy, they're circus monkeys. Anything they say is their own personal opinion, actors and singers are not the arbiters of truth or morality. "There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'" Isaac Asimov As Xell said, if people are going to Taylor Swift or Hwill Hweaton for political guidance, those people probably shouldn't be allowed to vote. For democracy to truly work, we need an educated society with the ability to think critically and always seek the truth. Peace & Long Life 🖖
Thank you for that brilliant well thought out comment, couldn’t have put it better myself ❤️
The Visitor is the sort of intelligent SciFi that Star Trek used to be realy good at.
Agreed
I'm in my early 30s, i'd say classic startrek granted me alot of insights and appreciations towards things like family, that my friends of the same age might not understand. I would even say many episode like this, and from the top of my head "the Drumhead" from TNG influenced me so much that I will be a different person without startrek. Amazing episode... Amazing review.
Thank you so much ❤️
This is the way to communicate concepts and ideas: make them specific to the characters rather than to specific, real-world events; then anyone can identify with as few or many aspects of the story as apply to their thoughts or experiences. The performances are outstanding. A great one to connect with a loved one over. 🙏For you and the bittersweet flood of memories.
Thank you ❤️
Excellent recap & review. Someone was definitely cutting onions in the room. The book dedication at the end gets me every time. As another guy who also lost his father too soon, I can totally relate to how you feel. Sadly my father wasn't into science fiction and I think it would have been great to have watched this episode with him. Cherish those memories, mate.
Thank you Clayton, that means alot.
It's been a bit since I've seen this episode, but I recall the performances in this one was especially outstanding.
So sad 😞 ❤🙏
👍🏼
Studios unfortunately took the lesson: make each Trek movie an action-adventure, don't complicate matters with thoughtful stories and scientific plausibility.
A petty nitpick: even though "Born to be Wild" is one of cinema's most overplayed songs, if one chooses to delay a launch to have the right Steppenwolf traveling music for a spacelaunch (atop a reconfiguered ICBM, no less), how is it not the one featuring the lyrics "I like smoke and lightening; heavy metal thunder; racing with the wind and the feeling that I'm under" and "Fire all of your guns at once and explode into space"?
Like a true nature's child, I was born, born to be wild. We can climb so high I never wanna die Burnin' through the sky, yeah 200 hundred degrees, that's why they call me Mr. Fahrenheit! I'm travelling faster than the speed of light!
I hate everyone on this super woke show. So many gays. Jus shoving it down our throats. Pushing an agenda.
Great discussion guys, sorry I didn't get to watch it live. LLAP 🖖🏻
I find myself revisiting this video when ever I am feeling down, it has a calming effect although at the end of the video everyones heart jumpas a beat.
I'm glad it had that effect. Is the outro immersion breaking? I can adjust it for future videos?
It really goes back and forth sometimes with Star Trek. Some episodes are more for action and comedy while others are focused on issues.
Looking forward to streams where watchnerd speaks up more. Preferably with a better connection/mic...
She was remote at that point, should be back up and running next week 👍
