I love camping in the rain and strong winds and in 40 years I’ve never had to pack up and leave thank god . Good video

I personally wouldn't use the under blanket with the hammock, until the temps are well into sub zero and there's no chance of rain. Those are good for a cold dry climate weather, but really don't work well in the cold wet climate we get in the UK. They act like a giant sponge and just soak up water and will ruin a night out.
In wet weather you're better off just lining the hammock with things like a roll mat to help prevent heat loss and take a warmer bag. Use a bivi bag too, because if it's really pissing it down, your hammock is going to get wet because the straps to the tree's will just wick in moisture.
Always plan to sleep on the deck, as your hammock can be very weather and location dependent. Side ways rain and hammocks are a shit experience. Gotta try and have that weather hitting you from the back and button up that basha, if it's gonna be windy.
If it's too wild, you're better off just kipping on the floor.

Great points, though where I am with wet weather on the ground I'd wake up covered in Spanish slugs and those things can be up to 15cm long and look like dog turds. 😖

@@SiaD777 Yeah, the downside of being on the floor, so is everything else. 😆Not too bad in the winter here, but in the warmer weather, it's definitely better off the floor.

Hi mate, thanks for sharing the video. I had trouble with being wet before too. If your tarp leaks that's the quality of the tarp. Your hammock straps around the tree will wick water down inside your set up and soak everything. Also what hammock have you got - does it have a breathable base? I like the DD gear as a good price. I bought their travel hammock, didn't realize the base was not breathable and first time I used it was pretty damp from sweat so sleeping bag was damp. I then bought the DD front line hammock with a breathable base and bone dry since. Best tarps in my opinion are DD tarps - fair shout testing stuff out. Not sure what size your tarp was but I use a minimum size of 3m x 3m 👍👍

@@shaynesoutdooradventures I'm terrible for over packing just in case ...but occasionally it does pay off. Though most of the time I'm just annoyed I've got too much stuff with me. 🙃

I cant see properly but it looks liwke youbjave the tarp tied off from a loop straight to the tree, have you?
If so thats why you got so wet, and the tarp being off level.
Water will run straight down the guy line and inside the tarp
A ridgeline above the tarp between the trees with the tarp ries on to that amd a level tarp will stop that.
I find itbeasier ronkeep everything dry with a tarp and hammock than i do a tent
Edit- its the internal ridge line that caused the bother.

Echoing another comment, get yourself a bivvy bag, even if the hammock gets soaked you can still have a (relatively) comfortable nights sleep.
