- It's been a good minute since I've gotten into a game. I have a bad habit of starting something then getting bored right away. I have a bunch of unfinished playlists for a few games some of which I barely started. Baldur's Gate 3 is THE thing that has finally come to fill that RPG void in me that's been hollow since the last Dragon Age & Mass Effect. I also got myself a decent gaming comp finally. As much as I love console I've been dying to use mods. I will start Modding the ish out of everything I play now! Also tired of having to buy a new system every few years to play new games and get annoyed at the lack of backwards compatibility for my old games on the PS2 and PS3. I said I'd try Cyberpunk again when I'd be able to use mods so not looking to buy a PS5 just to play the same sh!tty game with slightly better graphics. It sucks to have to even buy it again but hopefully another sale will happen soon. I just missed out on the recent sale on Steam (I think).
Anyway loving BG3, I'm not a huge fan of turn based RPGs but it feels fresh. I've been used to the Bioware, Bethesda, Ubisoft sandbox styles of game play. This kind of game play with the battles in particular remind me of the strategy simulations in FFTactics or Tactics Ogre, but with an open world component included which is the main reason I play. I'm also very impressed with the wide array of decision paths available through all the choices that you can make and the abundance of options offered based on which party character you are using along with the class, race, skills and other traits/characteristics a particular companion has. For the most part the game still guides you along a somewhat linear path with the story but the variety of interactions and the order of events in which you can complete them the game as a whole does not feel completely like it's just has the illusion of choice. It also reminds me a bit of the 1st Fable game in which you can pretty much kill most any character in the game which can lock you out of so many quests or options but doesn't render the game unplayable at least from what I remember. Geez you can like slaughter the grove immediately after you reach it.
I'm still trying to figure out how I want to record game play. I've always wanted to make a more movie style kind of video combining the game play with the cinematic scenes. PS4 had this annoying recording issue that randomly cut a few seconds of game play. I'd either play something several times until it was a clean recording or have to splice together a number of different playthroughs where I do as much of the same exact thing to fill in the gaps that were missing. No more issues with that nonsense on PC! For this intro playthrough, I edited and trimmed a bunch to provide a smoother flow of exploring all the main points of interest as you go through the Nautiloid. Also I have to cut all the moments I'm hoarding all the items I come across and balancing the weight between my party members. The character creation part was trimmed down by creating my character and dream lover first then rewinding to the first tab screen of the character creator and record from there to show the basics I chose for my Tav well... my Gus(Tav). If I kept the actual character creation process that alone would be most of the video. I have to say the CC choices are amazing and the wide selection of styles and colors is what a lot of other games lack. Not a fan of the starting armor so I'm so happy I get to finally add mods!
I actually played through Early Access several times already but I believe I will be going with this set-up once the actually game is finally available. I chose to be a Seldarine Drow Sorcerer with a Draconic Bloodline from White Dragons so he has an affinity for Ice magic. I love that this game lets you adopt other class skills at higher levels. I want to be more of a Swordcerer and use blades and great swords as well. For now, I'll settle for daggers at the early levels. Alternatively, I could've chosen Ranger skilled with some magic because I'd have access to more weapons. Draconic Sorcerer just feels more epic as a class. I don't know much about D&D but I'm actually getting into a lot of the lore now as I look more into information from other books and the previous games. Drow history is interesting. I like playing as the friendly Drow. I wish we could choose deities outside of Cleric. I'd like to specifically follow Elistraee and have more related content to that along with having additional interactional options and confrontations with the Lolth-Sworn as some exclusive story content for Seldarine Drows. All race variations should hopefully have more race/sub race specific related content not found in other playthroughs. I'd like to see distinct variations in the story between the different Tiefling types. I can't wait for the final product of this game.
