    Gerry is/was the most down to Earth guy I could ever call a friend, he stayed at my home for a couple days in 2009 and always picked up the phone for a long conversation, I loved his acting in Dirty Rice and got him to sign it out for me, I could go on I will just say I miss him dearly RIP to a great man!

      I met them about 10 years ago and somehow John Jorgenson's name came up and Don Wilson was telling me what a huge fan he is of John's😍. So there you go, our guitar heroes have heroes. He told me a great story about JJ that one day I hope to tell JJ personally.

    RIP Gerry McGee. He passed away doing what he loved, playing guitar and entertaining folks. My dad grew up with Gerry in Eunice La., my grandmother kept Pa Pa Dennis McGee's books. I grew up in Eunice La. in the 60's and 70's and played with many great musicians that Gerry played with before he moved to L.A. I miss him but I believe he is with that ultimate band in Heaven. Thank you Norm for posting this video.

    I don’t understand why people sometimes get nostalgic when talking about the price of old guitars like at 8:18. $250 strat in 1957, inflated for today, is more than $2,300. For that money you can get a fantastic strat, hell for $250 you can get a damn decent used mim strat. Guitars have never been less expensive

    • @jimmy5634
      @jimmy5634 3 года назад +2

      You are absolutely right on that.
      The American made Fenders have better electronics. Generally, that’s about it.
      I own a Mexican-Tele and a Strat both of which have upgraded pickups and pots. I have less than $800 in either and they are awesome sounding and playing guitars.

    @Normans Rare Guitars curious about the red Porsche you traded a guitar for about 35+ years ago, you always said you were going to give that car to Jordan. The $64k question, did Jordan get the red Porsche? :) Cheers, AlanD (could have sold more vintage guitars in Japan than any other American)

    • @TraditionalToolworks
      @TraditionalToolworks 6 лет назад

      And it would be interesting to compare the value of the guitar you traded McGee for the Porsche and look at appreciated value of what both are worth today. I can't remember the exact guitar, seems like you traded an old Strat. As a side note I will say I always felt those Mosrite guitars were some of the worst guitars I sold with a straight face, but the Japanese loved those sunbust models with the binding like Edwards played...They can have all of them, including Semie Mosely himself, one of the least honest people I have dealt with in the music industry. Quack quack quack....quack to me...Cheers, AlanD

      Gerry got to the point where he would only play with the Ventures on Japan tours ($$$$). He never really dug the music, and refused to attend the R&R Hall of Fame induction. His award statue from there appeared on eBay about a week after he received it. He doesn't consider himself a Rock & Roller, plus he was always in the shadow of Nokie Edwards.
