ENDANGERED TURTLES LAY EGGS IN OUR BACKYARD!

- Endangered turtles are laying eggs right in our backyard inside the expansive habitats we’ve built for them! It’s that time of year again which means sleepless nights and a lot of worry as we make sure we find the precious nests of eggs our hardworking mother turtles leave behind. Eggs left in the ground are a major target for predatory animals so it’s all up to us to find them and safely remove them for artificial incubation!

Northern wood turtles are very common here in west Virginia where I live. But to be fair I live in a area that is rather remote & protected land. They really like the rocky streams around here & what impressed me the most besides their awesome colors is they are really cold tolerant. I have seen them basking & moving around foraging for food in late January
Toledo zoo just got a new turtle pond with wood Blanding and box turts!!y'all should come visit!!!! Come for biggest week in birding!!!!
Love from Indonesian 🇲🇨🇲🇨
I had a teachable moment with my son yesterday. There was a turtle in the middle of the road and he wanted to save it. I told him to simply move it to the side of the road but facing the direction it was traveling! He did and was really excited.
Awesome!
That was very sweet, offering raspberries and roses for mother turtles' day. These ladies are so lucky to have a devoted midwife/nanny raising their children. 🌹🐢🍓🐢
Yes, that was absolutely adorable!❤
awe so sweet. GST just spoil their animals. I love it too!

Love your videos. Always a fan of your work, Chris. 🙌🏼
The markings on both of these turtles are absolutely beautiful.
Another marvelous video. Thank you
Both of those mama turtles have such sweet faces :-) looking forward to seeing the babies!
my dream is to see my pet turtle laying eggs 😊
Be interested to know if there's any difference in how many reach maturity if they're incubated by humans and released into the wild and if its any different from naturally incubated animals!
Great job helping the wood turtles live on!
What do you do once they hatch? Do you raise them to a certain size then release them? Just curious if this is helping to boost endangered numbers in the wild.
I also love raspberries! Loved you celebrating these amazing women!
Amazing work!! Thank you ❤🦘
Such a great enclosure! ❤
Finding those eggs is like striking gold. I think you are a great turtle detector. more fun than a metal defector could ever be :) I love turtles, have a pet Gulf Coast Box Turtle. I really love what you do.
How exciting 🐢🌺🥬
watching a turtle munch raspberries sooths the soul ☺️
So glad you are responsibly raising these rare species, giving hope to save them.❤
Hi Chris, do you have any video on how you made those incubators? I haven’t seen a wood turtle in my area in a long long time, they are such awesome turtles.
Fascinating!
Great info on my favorite turtles. Thank you.
So cute love her eating raspberries, hungry after giving birth 🐢 ❤😊
Awesome video, Chris!
Extremely informative and enlightening.
So glad you have archived all of this wealth of info over the years.
Take care leading Team Leone and GST. 🙂🙏🏻

All I could think at the end was, “Ooooooooo!! Flowerrrrr!” That was so cute. You both do so much for turtles and it’s wonderful. I have no suggestions for your videos…they’re perfection!🐢❤️🐢
Love from texas i finally got my first leapord tortoise
I hope we get to see the hatching
As a 62-year-old born and bred in Jersey, I’m saddened to hear Wood Turtles are endangered. We saw them consistently in the Watchung Reservation not far from New York City. What is killing them?
AThank you for doing everything you do to help preserve the endangered turtles. Just found your channel. Subscribing.❤ 😃
Id love to work there, maybe i will one day
🐢💚
Congratulations on your new eggs! I can’t wait to see them hatch! what do you do with all of the babies? You said that these are both endangered turtles, so do you kind of swap the babies with other licensed facilities for breeding or do they ever get released into the wild to try and increase the population there?
Crossing fingers for healthy babies!
Do you still have the Sulawesi forest turtles you got a few months ago? You should feature them more often
Dawned on my ..I should have been liking all this content on this profile lol
Just curious about the wood turtle eggs... I noticed in the shot where you placed the last egg that one of the eggs has a dent (timestamp 16:16 - top row, 2nd from right). Is that normal and will that egg develop? I thought it might possibly be because it was laid on top of another egg and the pressure made that dent, but that's just a guess.
We have blandings turtles on our property. I very rarely see one, but they are beautiful.
Wow! I learned a lot today. For breeding purposes do you keep track of each female's eggs?
I don’t get it…This channel is amazing why is no more subscribers :( dump pet you tubers get millions and you sir are somebody to admire , my respect to you and family
can i ask where you get your vermiculite from? also why dont you cover the hermans eggs
I have a question!!! What do you do with all the babys tortoise?
Hello i am Samuel, and i have a question and i hope you can answer it, how do you see the difference between a testudo graeca graeca and a Testudo ibera
Question. One of the woods turtle eggs looked like it had a dent. Is it okay?
My leopard tortoise refuses to eat grass since he was a baby. He’s 11 now and will only eat romaine lettuce, cactus, dandelion and other leafy greens, but refuses grass. How can I get him to start?
I am not sure if you will see this but we just recently got a wood turtle and she has laid eggs was wondering if we could contact you to give her a better life considering the type of turtle she is.
Where does that wood turtle fit those 12 eggs?!
How long does it take for them to hatch?
Where did you get that green bin that you use to put the eggs in? @GardenStateTortoise
What type of incubators are those you are using
But I read that, there's a life-bubble inside the egg, and should NOT BE TOUCHED, or disturbed after, the female lay's them.
That’s completely inaccurate and I can say that with confidence after doing things like this for more than 30 years with over 60 different species. 👍🏻
OMG. Those eggs are so small. I know that sounds odd to say but its true.
Shouldn't you mark the top of every egg in case they fall or spill out. Accidents can happen. You'll know the orientation they need to be/stay in.
Will red ear slider eat raspberries
No. Water turtles (terrapins) don't eat fruits (mine don't, and never heard of that).

Please be more careful when discussing sex in animals. You used sex and gender interchangeably. Animals don't have gender it's a human concept It's important not to spread misinformation about this topic right now.
stop trying to 1984 the world. Changin the meanings of words to suit your politics is fascism.
Gender means, what sex. Are you a Repub, perhaps??
Thank you guys for all your hard work ❤
Indeed!! Thank you all Team Leone!
