Marketing meeting at Waves (and several other plugin sellers): "We need a glowing testimonial endorsing our new product..." "... Let's call in Greg!" Walks to closet with puppets, pulls out Greg Wells, and boom: testimonial is done!
I saw some "debunking" of this plugin on various channels talking about how it can be replicated with free plugins and whatnot. Then later that day I heard a great quote from Jordan Valeriote of Hardcore Music Studio. He said it was the stupidest thing he's observed in a while, to judge a plugin based on what you see in plugin doctor. And he reminded me that all that matters is how it sounds. I'll just have to demo this plugin for myself and make a decision. Analog ITB is more real than ever, that much is for sure.
It’s not at all stupid to judge it by that. What it showed us, once again, is how fooled we get by increased gain and EQ changes. Especially when things are hidden behind a deceptive interface. Of course it matters if it sounds good. But if the same thing can be easily done with tools you already have, then why buy it? The only reason I can think of to buy a plug-in that is redundant in terms of sound would be if it enhances my workflow. But in this case I fail to see how it would.
