Possibly the biggest thing this video missed mentioning is the ANZAC history. In WW1 The Australian and New Zealand Army Corp was formed to fight in the war. ANZAC Day is one of the most respected Days in the Aussie calendar as we remember all who served in our Military. Australia and New Zealand are like Cousins who grew up with each other. Also Aus has the 5th longest mountain range on the planet- The Great Dividing Range which runs from Victoria up through NSW and deep into the North of Qld, it runs along inland of the eastern seaboard and hooks west in Vic. It is the longest range that is within 1 single country, it's abut 800 miles shorter than the Rocky Mountain Range in the U.S and Canada
@D G don’t forget that on Crete the Māori battalion took on a force that was 10 to 1 if not more with the most amount of losses on Crete and it was miss communication from the British generals and the lack of air support from the from the RAF so really Crete was a mess made by the British like the Dardanelles campaign
There was no mention of the ANZAC (Australia New Zealand Army Corp) and the bonds that formed on the battle fields of the world. Today ANZAC's means a group of Aussies and Kiwi anywhere in the world. People from both countries love giving the other a hard time. Brother v Brother but get out in the world it is us against everyone else.
100 percent..we can give each other shit ....but...anybody else give my ozzie brothers grief watch the fk out son ..we got those ocka lads to the death
It's meaningless. If the US whistled and told Australia to ignore andinvasion of NZ by China, you can guarantee that Australia would close it's borders to NZ refugees and throw NZers living in Australia into concentration camps, just to be sure that the US understood that Australia COMPLETELY understands what the US wanted it to do. The ANZAC is a historical colonial artifact of the WW1 era. NZ has no global political power and no economic value. Australia would happily sell us up the river if the US demanded it.
I'm Australian and will always take care of New Zealand people like a family, my sister's daughter has children with a Maori indigenousi New Zealander and my grandfather was born in New Zealand. The fires here in the Victorian High Country In 2020 was like living in hell all around us was a burning hell Ian we was luck to survive I pray we never go through that again 🙏
Exactly. Rent is by far alot cheaper. Groceries are about the same unless you have an Aldis nearby. Or something similar. Milk is $1per litre in Australia and you cannot find that in NZ which is odd considering one of NZ exports is dairy products.
Yep cost of living is plain wrong. Fuel way more expensive, groceries a little more (and deli type products same price but not as good - in the supermarket). Housing is bonkers more expensive in NZ too, I would say 25-40% more expensive for a similar property in a similar demographic area. Pretty weird considering the wages are about 25% lower on average and if your mahi (work) is portable to Australia, the exchange rate is a real blessing. That said, NZ is a better place to work and live in my opinion, but it wouldn't work for everyone.
The MacDonell mountains west of Alice Springs have been eroded over millions of years. They were similar in size to the Himalayas. Australia is an island but has a continental shelf.
He was way off about Australian soil being no good for farming lol, He also got it totally wrong about living cost and income! Australia is very diverse in terms of living cost....its a big place with thousands of cities/towns spread across the country. for example there are 8 million+ in NSW and not all those people live in Sydney lol
No, it's true about Australian soil. It is some of the lowest quality/nutrient soil in the world. It is testimony to the smarts and efficiency of our farming sector that we have such productive land. But we are also heavily dependent on imported additives, fertilisers, gypsum.
No, that’s correct. Australian soil _on average_ is garbage. It’s just that there is a LOT of it. So even if only a tiny proportion of land is suitable for farming crops, it still allows production of far more food than could ever be eaten by the population, so farming for export does well all the same.
As an Aussie I will always stick up for our Kiwi brother or sisters, unless it is the cricket or footy. No one puts crap on them. When "it" hits the fan you will generally find that both countries will try to help each other out. We get bush fires, NZ get earthquakes. Both can be devastating and help from volunteers fly both ways many times. Most Aussies treat Kiwis as if they were from just another state, not another country. Some of the best Aussie bands are actually made up from Kiwis, like Split Enz becoming Crowded House. Another great band was Dragon, who moved to Sydney to try to break into the music scene, maybe the NZ music scene at the time wasn't enough to go straight to the US or the UK, but hey were welcomed in Aus with open arms and wallets for their music.
@@The_Absolute_Dog The fight turns between each other to us both beating up the other person, then we go to the pub and try to outdrink each other haha.
He couldn't think of a successful New Zealand Band? I guess because I'm an Aussie, Crowed House came instantly to mind. You play their songs and Aussies and Kiwis come together 🤩 There was one song I knew growing up that came from New Zealand which could do the same in any pub. It was called "Slice of Heaven" by Dave Dobbyn. It was written for the Animation film "Footrot Flats" the comic Footrot Flats was a big hit in newspapers and was made into many comic books us kids enjoyed. Yeah, we joke a lot about each other but no one better mess with our ANZAC brothers ☺
Yeah, Crowded House was the first I thought of, too. that being said, I don't really know any other bands from New Zealand (or can't think of any). I grew up with Footrot Flats, too - those comics were great. I especially loved Dog and the female dog (can't remember what she was called), that always had the little love-hearts coming off her to indicate she was in heat. lol.😀
When i was in NZ my parents came for a visit from WA. First thing my Dad said was ‘Geez God must’ve been angry when he made NZ’ wasn’t meant in a bad way just the mountains and windy roads etc. He loved NZ. It is stunning. Hobbiton is in Matamata in the North Island. I was in NZ near Whakatane a couple of years back when Whakaari (White Island) exploded. NZ is fairly volcanic but Australia has no volcanoes. I was born in England, lived in Holland and Kuwait as a kid. Came to WA at 14 spent the majority of my adult life in WA but also a few years in NZ. I have the choice to live in Australia or NZ… how frickin lucky am I 😁
Mate Australia does have volcanoes, and active ones too (in that they are not classed as dead). There is a caldera not far south of the blue lakes of Mt Gambier in South Australia (which are prior vent sites) that is an active volcano. It just hasn't expressed itself in a bloody long time. Vulcanoligists suggest that if it did let go, well it would some very, VERY serious damage. There are another one or two dormant volcanoes in the state of Victoria... again, dormant is the key word.
@@julzhunt7790 Yeah, no active volcanoes outside of the territories. Mount Schank and Mount Gambier in South Australia last erupted about 5,600 years ago. The cause of the string of volcanic activity down the East Coast is not well understood, maybe it's a "hotspot", but there isn't a clear age progression - oldest in the North, youngest in the South. We certainly wouldn't want something like the Tweed Volcano (Mt Warning) to occur near a populated area - that thing was huge.
@@julzhunt7790 My apologies, the word I should have used was dormant... and there most definitely are volcanoes of that status on the Australian mainland.
I've survived this long (56) and have seen plenty of snakes, spiders, crocs and even sharks. These types of comments shit me. People who've never been here!
Anyone ever told you about "The Bush Tucker Man" Major Les Hiddins, expert survivalist and expert in Australian native foods ie "Bush tucker" or you being a car guy I recommend another legendary series "Bush Mechanics" a docu/drama series, showing Aboriginal culture and mechanical "fix it on the go" with whats at hand situations. Love the vids, hope y'all saying safe.
AUS is geologically VERY old, hence our mountains have mainly been eroded to rounded hills. NZ is geologically quite young, hence the alpine vistas. Auckland is about the same latitude as Sydney, and there is a lot of NZ south of there. Kiwis come to AUS for the higher wages, lifestyle and other factors being about the same. Except for Kiwis, there is a points system to emigrate to AUS. It helps a lot if you are young, married with a couple of kids, with a skill which is in demand. So, if you qualify, it is easy to emigrate. If you do not, Sorry, no way! Haka simply means song, and there are different hakas for different situations. The wedding haka Ian watched is not a patch on a full on the sporting haka which is an adaptation of a war haka. A Kiwi will tell you the haka is a welcome. Don't believe it! The sporting haka basically says "I see you. If you come any closer, I am going to rip you apart". There is even a throat slitting gesture to back it up. Overall, Kiwis are good people, and good friends. The only thing wrong with Kiwis is that they do not let us win the Rugby. Ever! It is just not fair! See ruclips.net/video/I3gbneDt-S4/видео.html See ruclips.net/video/xI6TRTBZUMM/видео.html
A haka is a challenge..man or mouse type of shit..our people come from a warring race brother..if you hearty we all good..if not you will be treated as such..anyone aaying im wrong is a sjw..just facts...our Army is actually called ..children of the god of war...and we are ahahahaha...you would be fkn blown away how involved our people in the world of warriors..science etc..we just keep stuff really quiet..seriously have a nosey bud it'll trip you out
Auckland is not about the same attitude as Sydney. It is a lot closer to Melbourne's latitude. Auckland is 3 deg south of Sydney, and 1 deg north of Melbourne.
As a Kiwi in Australia I sure miss those mountains. I remember driving to the car park at the top of Australia's tallest mountain (Mt Kosciuszko). Here in Adelaide the impressively named Mt Lofty is bit of morning exercise up a sealed pathway. Great view but foot hills in New Zealand are more lofty.
New Zealand was part of NSW as a colony for 3 years.. until we became our own country. A lot of Kiwis have Australian ancestry as I do. When we were a territory it was free travel (no visa) between the two. It is the same today we can move to either country with no visa except for the usual eg no criminal record. Just like in the states moving from state to state. All we need is a valid passport. As for the cost of living, I moved to Melbourne it's a lot better economically.. we definitely can tell the differences in accents, be the same for me that I can't tell the accent between an American and Canadian yet you can..
Yeah exactly, as soon as we hear each other "Oh you're a Kiwi" or "Oh you're an Aussie" But yeah it is so difficult to tell the difference between Canadians and Americans, (unless they are from like deep south U.S with that Southern twang).
I always liken Australia 🇦🇺 and New Zealand 🇳🇿 to siblings. That might tease one another and squabble occasionally but in a crunch they will always have each other’s backs.
Love your reactions to Australia and our brothers and sisters from over the ditch lovin'both cultures respect mate my people are from the Torres strait Islands Australia should have a look at my culture and on February 12 we have a Rugby league cultural game between aboriginal and Torres strait Islands all-stars v Maori all-stars you should have a look at that Game keep up the awesome reactions love to see you and your family in Australia soon you'll fit in well
Aussie here. I agree about the mountains - NZ has the best! This video is pretty accurate about most things. Very interesting. I don't live in a city - I'm in the Central West of NSW and it is SOOOO beautiful here. Crowded House is an AMAZING NZ band (but we like to claim them too). NZ is the only other country in the world that I would live in. I love it. We also share the ANZAC legend. We both kick arse! Go us.
Crowded House were formed in Melbourne Australia in 1985. Its founding members were New Zealander Neil Finn and Australians Paul Hester and Nick Seymour. Later band members included Neil Finn's brother, Tim Finn, and Americans Mark Hart and Matt Sherrod. So perhaps cannot be claimed as NZ band.
As someone who emigrated to Australia, I can tell you it's not 'easy'. Many trees died to provide the necessary paperwork, much money expended, and time spent on learning what I needed to know to establish myself successfully here. Permanent residency is what you need if you want to stay, otherwise there are lots of different kinds of visas for shorter term stays. It was totally worth every difficulty, every cent and every sleepless night. Yes, OK, books are expensive, food isn't dirt cheap and travel is always going to be more pricey because, well, distance, but oh, the compensations...
As of a few days ago we had an uncommon weather phenomenon where monsoonal air from the north was pushed south. It caused torrential rain and extensive flooding to the desert areas of South Australia where it has cut off the rail and road connections to the Northern Territory and Western Australia where food shortages have been occurring.
That's the second time this summer we have had a mass of tropical air move south into Central Australia, and then east. In NSW, we were warned that this wasn't going to be a typical Summer, at least for Dec and Jan. So far, no strong Southerly Changes (traditionally known as Southerly Busters), with accompanying storms, to lower temperatures and drive away the humidity. Although we have also missed out on the really high temps as well. Not complaining about that.
100, Im in WA the shelves are a lot barer again, talk of sending ships to bring us supplies today, IDK I just live here, havent seen tonights news yet, but damn Im over this heat, summer, cook or drown, ugh good lord thank the gods we love the place :P
@@buxymaiden Omg yes. I'm in Adelaide and that week was the most humid, sweaty hot time I've experienced. 30 degrees at night with that humidity was murder and even my portable aircon kept filling with condensed water and shutting down. Right now it's actually pretty cool as we had a 21 degree day today...but what happens in Perth happens in Adelaide a few days later...sometimes with added winds from the centre to jack up the heat even more...or (hopefully not) drag humid air from the far north.
A couple of New Zealand bands are Split Enz ( later became ‘Crowded House’) and back in the 70s and early 80s there was a great kiwi band called ‘Dragon’ whose biggest hit was April Sun in Cuba. I still have the vinyl records of these 2 bands stashed away in my record cabinet.

Australia is a continent because it sits on a continental shelf. In primary school we learned that it was also the world's largest island. Don't know what they teach these days. NZ does have beautiful mountains! I once stayed with a friend in the capital Wellington. Driving just 20 min or so out of the city, we saw the most incredible vistas around every bend. The flipside is that they have a shirtload of earthquakes 😱 As for accents, the main difference lies in vowel pronunciation, like the narrator says. While we say ten, Kiwis say tin. We say six, they say sux. We say chips, they say chups ... and so on.
Croatian, living in New Zealand for 30 years, I can say this country has everything in just a one-time zone. I love New Zealand; it's my home by choice.
Agree with the mountains in NZ, been there twice and on some of our drives, was telling the misses you can't take a bad photo here as I stuck the camera out the windows and took a photo without even looking and you could enlarge it and hang it on your wall, just beautiful not to mention the snowboarding options there, w a s there for 10 days and went to 6 different mountains and one of them twice. Oh dam I want to go back
We moved to NZ from Australia and found that my husbands income was lower in NZ. It's a bit of a conundrum with expenses, we found car insurance, car registration, rent, school fees and second hand cars were much cheaper in NZ, while fuel, food, and a few other things are cheaper here in Australia. As for population growth it is actually easier to be come a NZ resident or citizen than it is in Australia, so people move to NZ spend a few years and get their citizenship, then move to Australia as it is easy once you are a NZ citizen. I loved the 8 years in the South Island of New Zealand we did, but Australia will always be my favourite. One of the best things about the Kiwi's is their sense of humour, Air New Zealand puts out some of the best flight safety videos and the NZ Police have some awesome ads as well!
New Zealand brought to Australia great rock bands and singers split enz,mi sex,max merrit and the meteors, ray columbus and the invadars,Dragon, the swingers, crowded house, danah lee, john Rowles and the la de das
And all the Aussie Bands with New Zealanders in them like The Angels, Noiseworks. AC/DC ( The only Aussie in the band Phil Rudd became a New Zealander decades ago)
yes it is an island its called the west island 8). Australia and New Zealand are family we will always fighting over sports and mocking each other but if one of them is attacked by another country the other one will go to war to defend there family. can you do a video on john britten and the v1000 motorbike thanks and love the videos
The reason NZ is growing faster than Australia is thanks to the last GOVT who thought it a great idea to open the borders and let in a whole load of cheap labour. They were a conservative GOVT only interested in boosting business by keeping wages down. Thank goodness they were voted out and immigration was re assessed. But too late. Thanks to the huge boost in population there isn't enough housing and Kiwis who were born here can't ever imagine being able to afford to own their own home. Australia were smart. They clamped down on immigration and banned non Aussies from buying homes. As a result in Australia homes are homes. In New Zealand they have become comodities to buy and sell for tax free profit.
Sounds quite reasonable, however NZ’s immigration settings have not substantially changed regardless of which party was in government. Also if you think Australian house price inflation of over 25% pa, with average house prices of A$1.6 million as ‘homes’ and not a commodity, then you really are delusional.
@@alanbrooke144 Our immigration policy has changed significantly. The last GOVT let anyone come in on a student visa use it as a way in. They would do a five minute business course then be able to stay here and work at a gas station, supermarket or some other low paid job. This GOVT stopped that and as a result, wages have started to rise again for the KIwis who used to be able to survive on those jobs ten years ago. Kiwis trying to raise a family need to earn more to survive than an imigrant sharing rent with 10 other people in a cramped rental. As for Australian house prices.... I know a lot of Kiwis buying homes in Queensland because they just can't afford even the deposit to buy a home in NZ. So who is delusional???
13:12 Don't forget that Australia is still growing more. 1.3% of Australia's population is around 335,000 people where as 2.1% of NZ's population is only around 107,000 people. I have cousins in New Zealand and I have been there twice, Once to Queenstown (a skiing city surrounded by mountains) and twice to Auckland. It is a great up coming country and a lot of young people are moving for the lifestyle and job opportunities, it has a lot of future potential so due to that and its relative size that's why I think its growing quicker. Been watching you for a couple months now and your Vids are great, Much Love From Brisbane, Queensland Australia.
My mum as a child in the 1960's Aussie Outback, used to breed redback spiders in a fishtank, milk their venom and donate it to the CSIRO. It was a secret hobby of hers, until my grandma found out and torched it 😨 Cool though to know she contributed to today's antivenom, that has saved thousands of lives!
The reason we don't have high mountain ranges in Australia is the EXTREME age of the land itself. We had massive mountain ranges in the distant past, such as the McDonnell Ranges and the Peterman Ranges, both of which would have rivalled any range today for the height of its peaks. But they have all been weathered down to nothing by vast ages of time and erosion. Uluru and the Olgas were both created by silt runoff from the Peterman range into a long gone inland sea. Both of these ranges were long gone by the time dinosaurs were around, from 250 to 65 million years ago. They were around from 1.2 billion years ago to 650 million years ago. As the Australian plate has not collided with another plate for hundreds of millions of years (like the Indian sub continent did to form the Himalayas), there ahs been no mountain building here for a VERY long time.
@iwrocker In one of your videos you mentioned that you were interested in discovering Aussie music. Prepare to have your mind blown. Aussie has some of the best voices in the world. I have prepared a list that you could start with and no matter what your preferred genre you will have to agree that these have a VOICE. There is of course many more, some you may even know. Guy Sebastion, Delta Goodrem, Jess Malboy, John Farnham, Jimmy Barnes, Sia, Keith Urban, AC/DC, and many, many more. The one I reckon you should check out first is The Seekers singing "We Are Australian" This iconic song epitomises what it is to be Australian and many think it should be our national anthem. In fact I would LOVE for you to react to this. I am sure that there are many others who love your channel that would feel the same.
I lived on the Gold Coast in Australia and loved it there, so much opportunity and things to do.. Money is good, shopping is cheap and the beaches is good for family bbqs parks and bbaq areas set up and swimming is safe. Overall i enjoyed my time there, I got homesick for some real food , a maori boil up lol yeah I had really good aboriginal and aussie mates and I have alot of family there so i never felt lonely... You had to watch out if you smoke cigarettes. A few times had to run for the hose. I never crossed path with any snakes and only saw a giant cobweb stretched across from one tree to the other. I hate to imagine the size. The bats come out at night, and the lightening is wickedly cool.
When I went to Tauranga while travelling NZ I felt like I was in the town of my birth, smell of the sea and the fish and chips were amazing, fresh and people were awesome.
Actually when they mention Australia is a continent. It is but both Tasmania and New guinea Are Actually part of the Australian continent and the land bridges from Tasmania and New guinea to mainland Australia are underwater. The name of the Australian continent is Sahul.
The mountains in australia were once as big as the Hymalaya's BUT over time (since Australia is the oldest continent) they eroded and became what they are today.
@@richardmiller3839 It depends on the timeline Louis is referring to - but "once" covers a long period of time. There are certainly very thick sedimentary layers that show a lot of erosion, folding and faulting has occurred over a long period of time. Uluru is a good example of that. And of course, Australia isn't currently near a plate boundary, so our mountains are eroding, not growing. Given what we know, "never" is a big statement. With the exception of volcanoes, the last major mountain building probably occurred when Australia, Africa and Antarctica were one - Gondwanaland. So well over 200 million years ago. The MacDonnell Ranges in Central Australia were originally twice as high as Mount Kosciuszko. So maybe unlikely, not provable? But enough with the "delusional", keep it friendly.
This is completely true. Over millions and millions of years old. The hymalayan mountain range is the youngest on the planet, (and still growing). Look at Australia's gorges and waterways, you can see the erosion that is hundreds of feet in solid rock. This place is very old.
The Stuart Highway (& the train line connecting Adelaide & Darwin)mis currently cut due to extreme flooding recently. They nave had todo military food drops to towns like Coober Peady and Oodnadatta because trucks can’t get through.
Kiwi's like their sheep and often sneak up behind them with Velcro Gloves. Nah, just kidding. I've never met a kiwi I didn't like and the country is stunning. Theres 2 huge advantages NZ has over Australia and both have to do with pension eligibility. When u get to a pension age in NZ u get the pension no questions asked. Whether you're a pauper or wealthy u get it. In Australia they have tightened eligibility so bad even the value of your home can affect your pension even though it provides no income. Considering the cost of housing has skyrocketed the last few decades this is bad news for people approaching pension age. Secondly if youre on a pension in Australia and u want to continue working in some capacity to supplement youre income this will automatically affect your pension. Not so in NZ. Pensioners can work without affecting their pension. The NZ govt justifies this because well.. if a pensioner works they continue paying taxes so its a win win.
Your residence is not taken into account, yet, unless you live on acerage larger than 2 hectares. NZ sounds a lot better than Australia re pensions, if what you say is correct. Yes the government in Australia want you to practically beg for your pension here, it is such a process, so much red tape, not exactly showing respect to your elders or those who have worked their whole lives to keep the country going, why should you have to fight for what should be an automatic payment
G'day, Ian. Thank you mate for another great video. Some of the more famous bands I know from NZ are Dragon, Split Enz, Shihad and Crowded House. Also the actor Sam Neil is a Kiwi, although he was born in Ireland. Trivia point, did you know the stars on the Australian flag have 7 points for the unity of the 6 states and the territories.
@@greghansell5115 G'day Greg, I didn't know they were still going either, so I had a look at Wikipedia, and wow the story of the band (Dragon) is incredible. So after Marc Hunter passed from cancer his brother Todd seems to have taken the reigns. What an interesting story. And yes, I absolutely love their music as well. Best wishes.
I'm not sure about the US Canada relationship, but in Oceania we are like a family. Australia is the oldest, bossy, irritating to the younger siblings, but has all the right connections - and mostly has your back. New Zealand is like the second oldest. Not bossy, a mediator. Uses their smarts to gain influence rather than muscle, and treats everyone with respect. Loved by all, and always ready to show up the oldest with skill and finesse. I can't speak for every Aussie, but I love my Kiwi brothers and sisters. I have a helluva lot of respect for how they go about things. A beautiful country filled with beautiful people. If Zealandia and Sahul were still above the water line this area of the world would be the dominating powerhouse of the globe. Crowded House/Split Ends - great NZ frontmen.
Things to add about NZ: 1) Living is still expensive. 2) We used to have the biggest Eagle in the world (Haast Eagle) and it would hunt Moa. 3) They showed the wrong type of Possum. 4) We actually have a desert. 5) We have a castle (Larnach's castle).
If we wanted to list extinct large animals the list for Australia would need its own video. Both the birds are tiny compared to the Australian Thunderbird
there was actually 7 or 8 times more land burnt in bush fires during 1975 than 2019 -and even back in the 1800s and early 1940s there were some very large bush fires comparable to 2019.
Australia tightened up on immigration from NZ, and a lot of them had to home. At one stage the running joke was, "Last out of NZ, please turn the lights out." NZ has a better climate for dairy and less tyranny of distance.

At primary school in the 70s I was taught by my teacher that Australia was the world's biggest Island and smallest continent. Also originally NZ was just part of NSW he missed that.
personally i think its both, i think of us as an island nation in the sense that we dont share our landmass with any other country and therefore have a society and mentality that i would imagine is the same as countries that occupy proper islands. Our island is just big enough to be considered a continent in the geographic sense, in an economic and social sense i think we are an "island nation"
I found this below. Apparently we aren’t an island, until someone else says we are lol ••At about 3 million square miles (7.7 million square km), Australia is the smallest continent on Earth. ... According to Britannica, an island is a mass of land that is both “entirely surrounded by water” and also “smaller than a continent.” By that definition, Australia can't be an island because it's already a continent.••
most of us Australians, well in Queensland ,think Australia is an island, friends and so on, I've never done a survey so don't take my word haha, I found out the other day that people were saying it wasn't an island, I was pretty shocked so I had to google and confirm, Australia is not an island. but something in me believes it's still an island, maybe because I was raised my whole life being told it was an Island.
Well I would consider myself as living on a continent - it's just too big to be considered an island. Things are not that rosy in NZ. A lot of Kiwis emigrate to Oz.....Very hard to get into Oz if you don't have enough skills....
Without covid aus and nz have and pretty open border policy. The indigenous people do come from opposite sides of the globe. Apart from the odd political squabble, we get on alright, but don't ever call an aussie a kiwi or vice versa and don't confuse the accents (guaranteed to earn you a harsh look from both sides of the ditch). We don't mind taking the p&ss out of each other from time to time, but with a shared colonial history and long term military ties, when push comes to shove, there's normally an out stretched hand for each other.
It depends . to reg a car is way cheaper here but fuel is mad high at the moment .old car's are like lest then 100 to reg for a year and newer ones are not much more . But most things are not cheap at the moment because of covid . And beer and wine and spirits are way cheaper here
@@NZMOPAR Most state governments have compulsory universal no fault third party insurance as part of car rego. Car rego shot up in WA a decade plus ago because of this exact reason. I don't think NZ has this, hence why car rego is a lot cheaper there.
I smoke cannabis regularly, I don’t smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol… and I can 100% say that nowhere in Australia has legalised it! And even for medical use it’s almost impossible to get! Some family on the news had to move to America 4 years back because they couldn’t medical cannabis for they daughter with cancer!!
Australian and New Zealand accents are almost the same except New Zealand has shifted vowels (a, e, i, o, u) that pop out at you and you go...yep, that's a Kiwi.
The most noticeable difference in accents between Aussie in Kiwis is their pronunciation of 'i', such that when they say six, fish or chips it sounds like s'eh'x, f'eh'sh and ch'eh'ps. There's a term for the almost absent vowel sounding 'eh' but I've forgotten it. eh sounds like er without a rolling r.

Kia Ora from New Zealand!! (This is a common Maori greeting meaning "Hi" or "Thankyou"!!). It's actually pronounced a little bit like "Key-Order!!". Nothing can compare to the legendary Aussie Band "AC/DC" - but a few of my favorite Kiwi bands are "L.A.B" and "Six60". Both have many popular videos on You Tube. You might like to check them out or even consider reacting too them. Chur Bro!! (Cheers)🤘🎸
The population of New Zealand would be 5,500,000. However, over the last few years, 500,000 of the more beautiful, intelligent and telanted New Zealanders, have moved to Australia. I am very fearfull for the long term future of the land of the Long White Cloud.
This guy got the cost of living stat wrong,it's very expensive to live back home in New Zealand, food ,fuel, housing, all the most important things, are so much more expensive then Australia. Although lately, the fuel in Australia is cheaper ,by around 50 cents a litre after recent price hikes.

The Nullarbor goes from WA to SA….my husband and I and millions of others, have travelled for 14 hours across the Nullarbor with a stop over in the middle of the trip.
Australia had enormous limestone mountains once, but eroded away millennia's ago, Uluru and others like it were formed by the pressure of being beneath said mountains compressing the sandstone into what we see today.
Fun fact about NZ's Southern Alps.. The rate of tectonic uplift is easily among the greatest in the world. Every year the Southern Alps are pushed up by about a metre, but due to a combination of rock geology, with the schist & other rocks that make up the alps prone to splitting in frosts, & the constant wind & rain as a result of being in the Roaring 40s. The mountains erode by about 95% or more of what they get pushed up by. If not for that constant erosion, they would be far taller than the Himilayas. This is how in Kaikoura, a 3000m+ mountain is litterally pushed up out of the sea, it's unusual to have such a tall mountain, one of our tallest, only 6km from the ocean. The Canterbury plains are a result of lots of that mountain erosion flowing down in rivers. Driving from the sea to the foothills it feels flat but the edge of the plains & the base of the foothills is about 300-400m high.. Just some interesting geeky facts on NZ.. I became a geology geek after our Christchurch Earthquakes lol..
When in Australia I worked with a guy John who invited me to go with him to visit his sister when I asked how far we were to travel I got introduced to the term "Oh, It's just down the road" 500 miles and 5 hrs. later we arrived. They just have a totally different perception of distance.
Probably one thing this video did not touch on is the ANZACs which mean Australia and New Zealand Army Corp, we we are famous for our Diggers( Soliders) who fought together mainly in World War 1& 2 we Remember our fallen in all wars Past and Present with April 25 ANZAC DAY a Public Holiday in Australia and New Zealand each Year .
If you want to know any New Zealand bands, Crowded House, whose lead singer Neil Finn played guitar and sung with Fleetwood Mac on their tour a few years ago, Neil and brother Tim Finn formed a band back in the late 70's/80's called Split Enz they were a punk/pop style of band, Shihad which is a hard rock band, Shihad were forced to change there name going back in the aftermath of 9/11 because the name was too close to Jihad, so they changed it to Pacifier, that lasted until they got the ok to change it back some few years later, other bands were Katchafire, Salmonella Dub, The Exponents, there is also a heavy rock band who sings in Maori called Alien Weaponary, plus many others that I can't think of at the moment, so many of them have toured the States, great reaction Kia Ora from New Zealand, I am one that jumped the ditch to Australia but still love my homeland Aotearoa 🇳🇿
When INXS started off doing pub tours they travelled across country from Sydney to Perth and lived there for several months before heading back BY CAR. Actually a famous train links the east and west - it's called the INDIAN PACIFIC so you don't need to take a car across the Nullarbor Plain. I think you can go on that long journey on youtube. It takes hours and hours.

Having lived in both countries, i know this guy got it wrong! Cost of living is definitely higher in NZ
Exactly. Rent is by far alot cheaper. Groceries are about the same unless you have an Aldis nearby. Or something similar. Milk is $1per litre in Australia and you cannot find that in NZ which is odd considering one of NZ exports is dairy products.
1--% my mate moved back to NZ but came back due to the cost of living...
That said, NZ is a better place to work and live in my opinion, but it wouldn't work for everyone.
australia is definitely more expensive
I think over all . Down where I am around Nowra is great dairy . But out bush ? There’s no top soil .
I consider Australia to big like our big brother. We'll give each other shit, and even fight, but if someone else steps in, we have each others backs.
Spot on Gazza! Chur!

@@markwaters3050 there are only 2 active volcanoes in Australian territories and both are in Antarctica.

My partner can often tell the difference. However it is not so much the accent, but different words and language use.

I'm an Aussie and have to agree, the New Zealand mountains are some of the best in the world. They win hands down.
In Aus.. we learn that it is both The Largest Island and The Smallest Continent.
The largest island is Greenland. Australia is the threshold, so not considered an "island"...despite literally being one.
It was a secret hobby of hers, until my grandma found out and torched it 😨
Cool though to know she contributed to today's antivenom, that has saved thousands of lives!

BS! The mountains in Australia were never as big! You are delusional.
@@louislynge not true. The Himalayas are well over 8km high. It would take billions of years to erode a mountain by 6-7km

Just a music comment Ian ! For Australia- check out John Farnham, Jimmy Barnes, of course INXS and AC/DC. If you want to understand Australia you absolutely need to have listened to these as they truly represent everything good about us. For New Zealand- check out Crowded House and Noiseworks for starters. For some truly ICONIC Aussie “anthems” that every single Aussie knows:-

2) You’re the Voice (John Farnham)
3) Working Class Man (Jimmy Barnes)
4) Great Southern Land (Icehouse) - there’s a video clip on RUclips with all of Australia’s stunning scenery!

Dragon are still going apparently...I love their music from the 70's.
@@greghansell5115 G'day Greg, I didn't know they were still going either, so I had a look at Wikipedia, and wow the story of the band (Dragon) is incredible. The big star under the Union Jack is the seven pointed one, the Federation Star.
Things to add about NZ:
1) Living is still expensive.
2) We used to have the biggest Eagle in the world (Haast Eagle) and it would hunt Moa.
3) They showed the wrong type of Possum.
4) We actually have a desert.
5) We have a castle (Larnach's castle).

Australia tightened up on immigration from NZ, and a lot of them had to home. At one stage the running joke was, "Last out of NZ, please turn the lights out." NZ has a better climate for dairy and less tyranny of distance.

I’m an Aussie living in Darwin , been to NZ a few times , absolutely beautiful place and Split Enz was a big band back in the 70,s 80,s
Apparently we aren’t an island, until someone else says we are lol
••At about 3 million square miles (7.7 million square km), Australia is the smallest continent on Earth.
It also bothers me that old mate just referred to most of our dope animals as mammals and not what they are, marsupials!
We take the piss out of each other, but if you're from any other place, don't you fckn dare!!!

Australian and New Zealand accents are almost the same except New Zealand has shifted vowels (a, e, i, o, u) that pop out at you and you go...yep, that's a Kiwi.
People from other countries can't tell though, until they have lived in either Aus or NZ for a while.
The most noticeable difference in accents between Aussie in Kiwis is their pronunciation of 'i', such that when they say six, fish or chips it sounds like s'eh'x, f'eh'sh and ch'eh'ps.
