Great review of these headphones, just bought a pair! These will be a huge upgrade from my AD700x headphones which I absolutely love.

Awesome. I think you made the right call ordering the Refine. The waiting is always the hardest part but the Refine are so comfy that it's worth the wait!

Great review. I work third shift, my wife works days, and we have different days off. So headphones are essential for me on my nights off. I need to get a separate headphone amp to help open the door to harder to drive models.

It’s funny cause my wife and I are often these days working at the kitchen table both wearing headphones lol

Great review, the only problem is they are all, but unobtainable within a reasonable length of time. They’re only making 1000 units. Us mortals have less than zero chance of getting a set of these which is a crying shame.

Thanks and yeah I hear ya. It appears the website still has some available. I’m also crossing my fingers that maybe if demand is there they will make more?

To be fair, the only difference is the pads, and they're selling replacements. So you could just get a pair of the regular R70x headphones and swap the pads.

@ cool, I might just get the R70x and order the pads.

They plan on doing another batch/ more similar items if they get enough interest. If you look at the website now, they hint that there might be another batch soon

I have the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro in 250 Ohm. As a musician, I have seen quite a few Beyerdynamic headphones in many studios. Usually, the 250 Ohm is reserved for mixing. That being said if you have enough in your system to power them, the detail and overall sound is quite amazing. If you are limited on power just go with the 80 Ohm. Not as detailed but still extremely good.

I have a pair of these too and have been trying to drive them with a Douk Audio P1, but, well, meh…
I was thinking rather than buy a whole new DAC/Amp combo - mainly because I like the BT capability of the P1 - I’d just add an amp that would drive the DT-770’s nicely. Any recommendations? I’ve been looking at the JDS Labs Atom Amp 2. I’d like to be around $150, honestly.

@terryreilley Might want to look at the Vali 3 from Schiit Audio. $149.00.

They have a closeout on the Vali 2++ for $109.00 right now.

What is the sound difference when you swap the pads?

I'm new to this headphone space and I mostly game. I'm just over using those cheap $100 closed back headsets for my main setup. What amp/dac combo would you recommend for an all in one or even a dongle for the r70x? I just like my desk space to not be cluttered.

You can now buy the Schiit Magni with a DAC option included for $189 which is very hard to beat. I like the Magni because it can power pretty much any headphone from hard to drive to sensitive IEMs if you were to want to continue upgrading headphones over time! In this video I have the DAC stacked on top of the Magni, but now you can just get it installed in the amp which will keep your desk nice and tidy!

I'm in the same boat as you, looking at these headphones for Valorant and listening to music for long periods of time. I did some research and found out the Zen Dac V3 or the V2 is a good choice. There are a lot of reviews on YT for these, check them out.

The pads on the review unit you had looked to have the pads REALLY squished on the top part

Thanks for the great review! How does the Refine’s soundstage size compared to Hifiman’s mid tier like Ananda Nano

not as 3d as the nano simply because the fat egg shape cups on the nano, however still very comparably spacious and deepp
