“I’m a chef and I know how to do this!” Confidence is a beautiful gift. They’re fine with knives. I taught my daughter young too. Kids are capable of so many things and when we don’t show them that we stifle their abilities.
I have been in the kitchen since I can remember helping and learning it's not just because I'm female children no matter what sex should be taught the basics and it starts young then it's a habit.
Would I so appreciate about your beautiful Friday meal that you made is that you made it so if someone was more of a vegetarian that there was options on how you put your food out for serving not that I'm a vegetarian just how thoughtful you are and how beautiful your food is❤
Okay.... show of hands! Who else wants Ruthann's outside kitchen? Seeing your whole crew pitch in and work smoothly was heartwarming. The two little chefs are just too adorable!
"No, mom, I want to do my job on my own" - Kendrick This melted my heart. You are obviously a great mom who has instilled a sense of pride in a job well done in the kiddos! I really love watching your family!
I hope you don't take this as a negative because I mean this with tons of admiration. I love to watch your videos because of how messy you are in the kitchen. I was not taught as a child to work in the kitchen and have long thought there was something wrong with me. My kitchen looks like a whirlwind hit after every cooking session. You have made me realize that maybe nothing is wrong with me. I'm just a messy which is a huge blessing. Thank you so much. I would love to meet you and have a cup of coffee with you. You are precious!
I feel the same way. Coffee with Ruthann would be a great day, and I don't even drink coffee. Just last week I was canning pears, the kitchen was such a disaster, carrying water from the sink to the cook top and washing pears I got water all over the floor. I just threw bath towels on the floor and kept going. LOL. My mom always said great cooks were messy cooks.
Just remember that creative people are seldom tidy!! Yes, being neater while cooking, cleaning up as you go makes for less work when you’re done but…..that’s not always the best way to cook! As long as basic hygiene is adhered to and the end result is tasty, then how messy the kitchen is irrelevant!
That will be partly RUclipss fault. They turn the camera off, then clean up so it looks like they are better than the rest of us. Isn't Kendrick sweet? No Mum, I want to do my job by myself.
Hello RuthAnne. I’m 72 now but I can’t help but think how helpful these videos of yours would have been when I was raising chickens and turkeys and gardening for my family. I believe there are many young people learning from you now and that is a very good thing. God bless you and your beautiful family.
People's inability to mind their own business never ceases to amaze me. 😅 I was cooking full meals for our family, from scratch, by myself, before I was even 10 years old. Children learn to do what you ALLOW them to learn to do, and your family is certainly a great example of that. ❤
Agreed. My mom and dad both worked outside the home and we were a family of 7. I took on supper at the age of 12. It taught me so much and I am grateful every day that I can make just about anything.
When my son was about 6 he cut his hand badly playing with a knife. All my cautions of "be careful, that is sharp" were ignored. Having stitches taught him far better than Mom saying be careful. He now handles knives with the respect they deserve. I think your sons are learning to be responsible adults and these lessons will stay with them forever. All of your children are so polite and grown up. It reflects well on you and your husband that they are eager to help and kind to each other.
My Nana used brown sugar in her tomato sauce instead of white. I think it adds more complexity to the sauce so I do the same. She’s been gone 25 years now and everyone always says my sauce is just like hers. Makes me happy.
@@Reddogmerryman I think we use a little less sugar than that. I usually only make a batch from frozen tomatoes for that Sunday dinner and I just put in maybe a quarter cup for a pot. If that wasn’t quite the right flavor, I’d add a little bit more.
There was a restaurant here in my town that the owner was Italian. She would come around the tables during the evening meal hours and ask how everything was. I asked her one time what she did with her pasta sauce because it was so good and didn’t bother my stomach. She smiled and said “brown sugar”. Just a little it helps with the acidity. I’ve put brown sugar in mine ever since. Depending on how much I make I’ll add maybe a tablespoon of brown sugar to a skillet/pot of pasta sauce.
I just love your family. I especially love that you are teaching your children how to participate in life. I feel that most childen nowadays have zero life skills taught to them .
So very true! This is the way I was raised which resulted in hard working adults! I raised my daughters the same! Parents are not doing their children any favors by not teaching and including them in life’s every day responsibilities!
I think is great how well your kids handle the knives. Today not even young adults know how to handle a knife and are loosing so many skills due to convenience foods. You are a great mother, God Bless you all!!!
When I was taught to make sauce, I was taught to grate some carrot into my sauce. Since that time, I always do this and that's how I curb the acidity and sweeten my sauce. So good.
There's nothing wrong with children learning about the real world. When I was a boy, everyone had small pocket knives. I wholeheartedly agree with you teaching the boys how to do things safely. They're sure to grow up to be responsible young men. You can be proud of them!
I would get my 5 kids lined up in the kitchen to help me when they were little and one fond memory is hearing " Mama, we are like a factory!"..... Thank you Kendrick for that reminder =)
LOVE the part about the children handling knives! People have become too sensitive to the wrong things these days. Boys should have practice doing these things and it’s evident with your boy saying he didn’t want you to help him with “his job” so beautiful! You are raising them right.
You are so positive in the training of your children. As a child I remember being told “you can’t do that” and sometimes it instilled a fear in me of trying things. God bless you!
I just want to say thank you so much! Your discussion about just doing what you can do, and one jar canned is one you don't have to buy is just what I needed. I am 53, and just starting my canning journey. I thought I was too late in life to start, but you have given be the courage and motivation. Thank you! And I love watching the boys, they remind me of mine! I love your family!!!
I really started to can 4 years ago, late 60's. Zero reason to not do it. I was doing (family) assistance living for my dad. When covid hit, we SO MUCH appreciated my pantry of canned foods. We kept dad out of the public places, and safe from covid. He ate so well, and it was good for him.
I'm 54 and all four of my kids are now grown. I've started gardening, preserving, chicken tending, and crocheting. Everyone thinks I'm crazy. I just never thought of these things while raising children. Now, I want to learn as these skills are being lost as generations become more reliant on technology. Don't get me wrong! I LOVE my microwave. But, I think it's important some people hang onto the old skills.
My oldest daughter has been homeschooling her 5 kids. Her curriculum last year had them using knives she always has cooking as part of their school. Her father in law was a butcher so he taught them the correct way to sharpen knives!! The boys are doing great!! So are you!!
Kendrick is the sweetest little soul. I started letting my daughter help cut up veggies at six years old. Nothing wrong with teaching at a young age. It helps with their self esteem. Stay Blessed 😊
I love watching your way of life! I was raised in a family where we had a big garden and helped mom with the canning. The Lord didn’t bless me with children but I still have a garden and love to can and preserve.
i love the way the kids don't run around, or rather sit around, with an electronic device!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your kids will own the once that do!!!!!!!!!! Bravo Bravo Bravo. Yes GOD IS GOOD, ALL THE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
People freak out when they see my Grandchildren helping me cook. I always teach them from VERY young to use knives. They stand on a step-stool & are ALWAYS willing to help! Helping also encourages them to eat better because they are proud of their accomplishment! I just LOVE watching & learning from you!
❤❤❤ Yes ✋🏻😊 that's how I learned in the kitchen growing up 😉💭 n How My Children learned, n now my grandkids are learning so much n making their own recipes n helping us out too 😀😅❤😍❣️
Half the time I click on your videos just to listen to your words of wisdom and encouragement. I am a young mother without my mother or grandma(deceased). Living in an area without any family. My grandmother canned for her family. I watched her do it, but she never taught me. So, thank you so much for your videos. Also, thank you for saying you didn't do as much canning with young babies and Toddlers. I was having a hard time when I watched this video(overwhelmed). I did 30 jars without anyone helping and taking care of a 1 year old.
Wow! I love this video! Your boys are great with knives! Because you taught them! My oldest (he is now 38) earned his whittling chip in Boy Scouts. He was so proud. One day, I was down the road at church, and my husband called and said, "Please don't worry, but I need you to come home." Those words struck fear into my heart! Long story short, my son had cut his thumb almost to the tendon. Needless to say, he got his whittling chip taken away and had to earn it back! We spent the afternoon at the emergency room, getting stitches. Guess what? He learned, and nothing like that ever happened again!
15 minutes in - WE ALWAYS used knives, etc. as we were introduced at a young age to the challenges and uses. Our son was raised the same way. START young and they grow up with skills. I have witnessed too many adults who pay a bigger price because they had NOT been introduced to skills when they were younger. We pay the price up front or we pay a BIGGER price later in life. I attempt to just "pay it up front"! Your children are the product of your (and your husband) encouragement and direction. I canned a pasta sauce during a heat advisory as well - and just as you - without air conditioning. Dang, that heat! Our pasta sauce is more chunky but we can always puree it if we desire a smoother application when we use it. Today is cool in temps in the 50s and we aren't around to do canning! LOL!
Your Children are a credit to you, I was teaching my five year old granddaughter the other day to use a sharp knife correctly, I agree with you, kids have to learn, start them young but supervise them.
Good morning RuthAnn and sweet family! I’m in my 60’s and we were taught to use a knife when we were younger. I’m so grateful for having the skills and ability that was needed to raise my family. I’ve been canning 50+ years and I do love canning. Just knowing what I’m eating and what is going into my body. I think your pasta sauce is beautiful and your family enjoys it. Thank you for sharing your recipe, knowledge and wisdom with us. I hope everyone has a very blessed weekend!
People have questioned buying produce to can saying you're not saving money. Simple: home-canned food just simply tastes better to me. You set a lovely table! Best wishes for a wonderful week.
When you make your own you are making a premium product. You arent replacing jars of walmart brand sauce, its Rao's. And those puppies are like $8 each
I do not have a garden at this time , I’m thinking of putting in a small one next spring. I purchased 8 or 9 , five pound bags of frozen mixed vegetables and canned those babies up. Agree , it does taste better . Ruth Anne is a fountain of knowledge and fears The Lord. Win , win
@@ElizabethBarber-tu9ey my experience shows purchasing food to can costs me from 1/3 to 1/2 as much as does buying prepared foods, depends on where we shop. As you say, homemade quality is better, and contains less sugar and salt.
@@veronicavatter6436 My home canned beans made using dried beans contain 1/2 a cup of beans per pint, Delmonte, etc., contain about 1/3 of one cup of beans per pint. My pint cost thirty cents to make including energy and water, I already own the jar, at our grocers today a can of beans cost well over $1. I don't know how people manage to feed their families any more.
I wish more children were like your children. I love that they do chores. I taught my boys the same thing. They are grown and teach their children the same.
Thank you for showing those who watch your videos that it's ok for children to learn, and grow while helping you. We have hindered children by not allowing them to get hurt. Boy, the best way to learn. I did and so did my children. Thank you again. Wonderful channel. You're a very good mommy 😄
I would never second guess you on your children doing work and using knives. You are an Amazing person and mother! All children should be so lucky! Bless you!
Love the way your children work. They know what to do. Out of all you kids which one will garden bake be you?? You videos are great. I love it when you’ve outdone yourself and you know it and that cute little smile lights up your precious freckles those brown eyes sparkles. In one video you made the remark about not going no farther than eighth grade. You know how to do everything. When this world goes crazy you will be a survivor. Stock up on seeds can more food. Things are going to start happening to this country. Make sure those little boys learn. Question them on gardening. I’m just an old 68 year old woman who loves your family. God is good.
Just wanted to say thank you!!!! What bright light you are for the Lord. Thanks for sharing all your recipes and videos. I'm learning so much. It is like having the neighbor friend.❤🎉😊
I admire you for letting your children grow up using tools like knives. It all comes down to supervision and education. Too many of our children today are not at all ready for real life because they never were allowed to get experience. Parents do not spend time with children to prepare them. Good for you! I love how you raise your children!
The only criticism I have regarding the sharp knives is self-criticism for not teaching my own son knife skills as a young boy. He was a teenager before I even started to allow him to use a decent size kitchen knife. Your children are very hard workers. Great kids ❤
While I agree wholeheartedly with all of the glowing comments on how bright, independent and cooperative your precious boys are, can I just say how blessed I am by Hadassah and how she always appears to be lovingly obedient in all of the ways she helps out? She truly exemplifies the meaning of her name, and it's such a blessing to see a young lady of her youthful age displaying these rare qualities! If only we had more like her!
I love that you are teaching your kids to use knives and how to do things. I did this with my son and was ready to be self-sufficient when he moved half way across the country to go to college. He is now married with 4 kids and teaching them.
Knife skills for kids! I love this and fully support teaching kids young. As my boys grew up they had their own kitchen knives so they could help me in the kitchen. I always had a good sharp 6” chef knife for them to use and then taught them how to properly use them. My oldest is now 22 and for his college graduation I gave him a full knife set, sharpening stones and a collection of good cook books. Smart mom getting extra hands to help. ❤
I hope my boys remember sitting on the porch snapping beans and shelling peas. One year, we had a plumbing issue, and we couldn't get a plumber. My dad opened the pea trap, and my boys hauled buckets of water and watered the entire yard with my dirty dishwasher, veggie, and fruit water. They were about 10 and 12, NEVER complained once.
Not only do I learn - a lot - (at 68) from your videos - it absolutely warms my heart! Your children are SO Blessed! I wish every kid could have had this upbringing. Love you and your videos and Thank You so much for doing them. I’m from Saskatchewan Canada.
I absolutely adore your family! I love the fact that everyone is so happy to pitch in, and I especially love how casual you are. You guys want just onion rings for dinner? Grab the onions.😂 Life doesn't have to be so rigid, it's okay to have fun while you're getting your work done.
I admire your common sense, wise, caring parenting style. Your children are so precious. We’re doing family dinner tonight with spaghetti and meatballs also. My son-in-law is cooking, my garden is supplying the ingredients.
It is enjoyable watching the children grow. It shows in their abilities in their chores. I have no worries in your in decision on what chores you give them. You made me laugh in your “cutting”stories. You are a very wise mother. God Bless you Ruthann
I just love you keeping your children as a part of everything and they are so awesome to watch! I love children being taught the values of life and I’m thankful my grandmother did the same! Awesome job mom!!! Life skills much more valuable than iPhones or iPads love it. Your sauce looks great. Thank You for sharing.
Yes, coffee with Ruthann! I’m in! Children learning life skills is wonderful. I homeschooled my children and anytime we had a carpenter, septic service, plumber, concrete poured, etc. I encouraged them to be an “apprentice”. Now their friends call them for help!😂. You’re parenting skills are astounding. I encourage my adult children, who are new parents, to watch you not only for homesteading info but also for calm parenting tips!
I had to laugh when you said you’d forget the tomatoes in the freezer. Last month I pulled last year’s tomatoes out of the freezer and blended them up with fresh tomatoes using a combination of your recipe and my mom’s and it was delicious! I never would have considered the blender until I watched your video. Thank you for teaching me traditional skills (no canned products) and permission to make changes! Love your videos and my husband is enjoying the recipes too!!
@29:00 I only have 2 children, live on the opposite side of the world, never cooked big batch, canned, homesteaded etc. My boys are now grown men, I am growing a veggie patch again and love your channel. Words of wisdom and self learning you are speaking here, and I really appreciate your candour. Do what you can with what you have -if you can’t make big batch, make a smaller one. Myself, I buy a massive can of tomatoes and do what you are doing now, make it a special flavour.
I think the fact your children have life skills is wonderful. Too many kids these days can’t do anything risky. At our recent grade 5/6 camp (I’m a teacher) I was on pancake duty over the fire. Many of our students who hate learning in a classroom excelled making their own fires and cooking pancakes. God intended us to use our hands for good!
You are such a great mom- your main concern and goal in this life is to make sure your family has the best food without all of the chemicals that are added today. They are being taught the REAL blessings in life- family love. Thanks for the videos of your hard work and of course the family!
Hello Ruthann.... it's so wonderful that your children jump right in to help. I saw a post where the person cored and quartered the tomatoes... they put them skin side down on cookie sheets and low bake them so most of the juice evaporated.
I loved @14:30 he was trying so hard to put that onion back together.😊 The earlier they know how to use a knife the better off they will be. We as adults still cut ourselves, its not over just because we hit a certain age.
I’m trying this recipe today. My tomatoes did poorly this year so I bought some from a Farm Market. I think I will wash with the baking soda. I felt for you in the heat and thought you looked a little pale toward the end. I’m a 75 year old nurse who still looks at people to check if they are ok.❤ I never miss a video. I don’t comment that much but I am here watching and loving your family❤
Loved this video from start to finish. The tutorial was great, but all the family and community displayed throughout is really what makes it beautiful.
I wish I could go back & parent like you again. I can every other day something, even in winter. But kids are now in their late 40’s. Only 4 Grandkids. Love watching your channel. I can relive my younger years
Hello Ruth Ann, just want to say that I've used your tomato sauce recipe for 2 summers now and it's soo good! This is the first summer where we have a lot of tomatoes though. The first batch was a bit salty, so, I adjusted the 2nd batch. And all is good. And just like you, I have to make a tally to keep track. And I also converted gallons to liters since that's what we use in Europe. Thank you so much for sharing your recipes to us. Love from an older Mama with small kids and a beginner homesteader in Spain. ❤❤❤
My heart is always warmed when i watch you and your children. I did much of the same, my sons are 45,42, 33. They DO remember so many skills we worked on and didn’t love doing it at the time. They are all incredibly able to cook, clean, manage their families like men! I love to hear, “mom remember when…” Im that grandma that gives chef knives to my grandchildren. No cuts or accidents because they didn’t have to sneak to use a knife! Bless you for teaching the younger women! The bible says to do so! ❤
I recently found your channel and I am learning so much! I am a homeschool mom of 13 kids six still at home under 18. I’ve been canning along time but not in large quantities. Do appreciate all the tips that I’m learning from you at 53 I’m still learning new things so I guess that’s great.
The boys melted my heart in this video!! And i couldn't agree more about the knives and the fact that they are indeed not typical little boys. All kids have to learn somehow!!
A little tip From A Sicilian cook. Add a peeled potato to each pot of sauce during its cooking time. The potato will absorb any bitterness caused by all the acid In The fresh tomato’s. Creating a wonderfully smooth tasting sauce. Remove the potato before serving.
We processed 21 quarts and 11 pints of tomato juice last week and my husband was running the stove so he decided to pressure can the juice. As it was decompressing I heard a loud pop and thought "oh no, I hope that wasn't a jar". Well, it wasn't, but it was a lid that had blown off and there was a tomato juice covered pot of jars. That was quite a mess! Have a great week and thanks for sharing.
I love this! I use to get a lot of “unwanted opinions” from family because since my kids could sit they were helping me in the kitchen. When my 8 yr old had to help my 45 yr old sister make pancakes, the tones changed.
I was taught by my mother to can and you always leave the water below the lids as you were taught. When kids grow up on a farm they learn to do many things at a younger age. Nothing wrong with that. I love your videos. Thanks for all you do!
I used to cover my jars with water, but now I do it the way you do, it makes so much more sense and I like your method better. Thank you for showing us a different way of doing things.
Watching this was like seeing people living in paradise, even with all your sweating. Your family situation is so enviable. Your patio/lawn is perfect. Your outdoor kitchen, oh how I wish I had one like it. As for that sun, could you tape up some sheets of mylar to block the sun just for the hour or so that you have to stand there in the sun? We bought a few very thin sheets of it to use to block the sun when we need to. Your homestead looks better with each video. Such creature comforts I see all around. I love also that you are barefoot as you work and garden.
I am so glad you actually teach the kids to use stuff. We do it with our kids and other people look at us crazy. Kids are extremely smart if you teach them.
Hello RuthAnn and beautiful family, the boys are growing up way too fast, I just love watching you and the children together , the boys are like sponges soaking up all the knowledge you are giving them I think it is amazing , one day when they are grown there wives better be good cooks lol as they will just be amazing in the kitchen which I think it just great, the life skills they are learning is teaching them that no matter what they want to do in life as long as they work hard they can achieve what ever goals they set for there selves if you work hard at it just amazing, , I love it, I think you are just a amazing Christian lady, Mother, Wife, and Grandma. You and your family always bring a smile to my face and love in my heart each Saturday Morning . The knowledge I learn from you I put to great use Thank you Ruthann for taking the time to teach us what you know , my Mom and Aunt taught me a lot but I have learned so much from you. I just want to Thank you for everything you do for us your viewers. If you ever build a guest house in your big new barn to rent out for us to visit, I would love to spend a few days helping you on the farm and getting to know what a amazing Christian lady I know you are. God Bless you and your beautiful family.
I love how your children are raised. To do chores, have responsibilities and not to do everything for them. This is how I remember being raised and tried to raise my own. Good job momma.
I am so glad that you are teaching your children life skills. It is these lessons that will help them more. The Bible instructs to bring a child up in the way you want him to go and when they are older they will not stray from it. I love watching your channel it is so refreshing to see well mannered children.❤❤❤❤❤❤
The joy you must experience as a Mom of such capable children. When the kids eat that product that they all helped prepare, each with their own contribution it must leave them feeling proud.
❤ this was a great all around video! From the pasta sauce , to reasoning of knife safety, expedience vs comfort AND that beautiful buffet!! Thank you. Have a blest weekend!
I love how you are raising your children. The skills that gain are so important in our world today. Just love it. That's how I raised my children much to the grunts from family. But you know what, they are better for it today. Thanks so much. Love your channel and your way of life.
Good morning sweet lady, absolutely love watching your videos of you and your lovely family. Thanks for sharing your old ways of waterbath and pressure canning.. You are such an inspiration.. Blessings for a great weekend...
Good morning Ruth Ann. I''m excited for my grandsons to watch this video. I have one 8 and 10, and Kendrick and Harrison are such good examples for them.(even though they're a younger) Sweet, sweet boys with such a good work ethic at their young age! Love your family and how you teach them about living life. Thank you Ruth Ann!!! ❤Patsy
I boil my tomatoes in several huge pots, and I cut them over the pots to catch all the juices. Once they are cooked, I strain out all the liquid and can most of it as tomato juice in pints. This allows me to make the sauce as thick as i like. I leave in the skins and seeds and i have a blendteck blender, so if it want a fine sauce i blend it after opening the jar. I dont add anything but lemon juice to mine. I like the lemon taste. I wayer bath can it in steam canners because it uses less water and i can do one batch after the other using hot or cold jars. I canned 5 dozen quarts yesterday, 2 dozen were sauce and 6 dozen quarts were juice. I often do pints for juice but i am out of pint jars now. I love your channel. It was over 32 degrees here in Edmonton, AB, too. Thank you.
@Ruthannzimm it is faster because: 1. there are only two inches of water in it, so you lose less time waiting for it to come up to temperature; 2. There is a temperature guage so you can see when the time starts; 3.when everything is done you just take the cover off and take the jars out after 5 min- no lifting all of them up!; 4. The jars come off quickl, so then you just pick up the rubber coated handle and easily dump out the 2 inches of hot water because it is light; 5. Just add cold water and put it back on the stove if you are cold packing; 6. If you have hot packed, just top up the water and put your filled jars on immediately; 7. I have run mine for 3 hours to can beans and no water evaporated away. You fill it to the top of the rack, put the jars on, and fill it just up to just before the lip where the cover sits. I find them used on kijiji and the fb marketplace. It's cheaper to run. 😀 you are the best mother on earth. I wish I could adopt, like you have done, but the state says I am too old, which I think is nonsense. I am 64, so my kids are grown. I am in perfect health. When you adopt, your family is the gift you give the child, not just two people and a credit card! You are so blessed! So good to see your boys helping and learning from you.
Our heat advisories don't occur until it's at least 97-98, with high humidity. This has been a bit of a cooler summer with only a handful of days over 100. I feel a bit envious of your temps! It's all about what you're accustomed to, I guess. Love your videos--your attitude about raising children with experiences to help them learn to cope with the realities of life is spot on! Seasons--I'm in that empty nest season, with my boys raising their own families. Learning to cook for two has been a challenge! I am a retired elementary school teacher and an all boy mom, so watching your boys makes me happy!
I just started my canning journey in January. I've doubled my garden this year and it's important to preserve things besides freezing. I have an almost 5 year old and she helps me prep things for canning, cooking and baking She loves to help. She uses a plastic knife to cut lots of soft food on her own. In a year or so we'll move to metal knives . I think too many parents try to protect kids or even coddle them. They don't need to be little adults but they should learn about being self sufficient, learn independence and skills and learn responsibility. We're looking forward to canning our first batch of homegrown pasta and pizza sauce this year. I even grew oregano and basil and we got fresh garlic from friends.
I think you are a wonderful woman and your family is so lucky to have you taking care of them and cooking and canning, you are always busy and you have blessed each other with lots of love and support and care! I love your videos and your way of life. We have family in Iowa, Fort Dodge, we live in the mountains of Arizona so it’s hard to drive there because of the weather and the flat roads are endless 😮but I really appreciate your videos and as soon as I can I watch them. P S. I am 70 years old…
Yes we were taught very young how to use kitchen tools and sharp knives. I was blessed to be included with the canning preparation and using a sharp paring knife the summer just before I started kindergarten. (1953) Was part of helping with meal prep from that time on as well. Instilled a love for cooking and feeding others that's still part of my everyday. Love your videos and enjoy you sharing your family life with us... thank you! Blessings on your family!🌻🐛🌿💚🙏💕
“I’m a chef and I know how to do this!” Confidence is a beautiful gift. They’re fine with knives. I taught my daughter young too. Kids are capable of so many things and when we don’t show them that we stifle their abilities.
The food looks amazing! Love your porch!
My earliest memories are climbing on a kitchen chair to reach the counter … priceless skills
I have been in the kitchen since I can remember helping and learning it's not just because I'm female children no matter what sex should be taught the basics and it starts young then it's a habit.
Would I so appreciate about your beautiful Friday meal that you made is that you made it so if someone was more of a vegetarian that there was options on how you put your food out for serving not that I'm a vegetarian just how thoughtful you are and how beautiful your food is❤
Amy, 👍.
Okay.... show of hands! Who else wants Ruthann's outside kitchen? Seeing your whole crew pitch in and work smoothly was heartwarming. The two little chefs are just too adorable!
"No, mom, I want to do my job on my own" - Kendrick
This melted my heart. You are obviously a great mom who has instilled a sense of pride in a job well done in the kiddos! I really love watching your family!
Made my heart smile.
Such a healthy productive attitude.
Love it so much! Great job Mom!
I use a really good quality juicer. It savesso many steps with the same good results.. I do juice and pasta sauce.
@@whitestone4401❤️
I was 12 it’s good to teach our children to be able to provide and help out. It gives them pride. My 5 year old grandson helps in the kitchen too.
When you turn 12 its tradition in our family that you make the thanksgiving meal all by yourself ❤
@@rhiyaprater7328 That’s WONDERFUL!!!
You are not only raising terrific kids - you are raising them to be terrific adults. Good on you!
That kind of compliment means the world after you lose someone.
Did she use the same amount of brown sugar as white sugar? For instance, I use 2 1/2 cups in my recipe. How would it be converted?
❤❤❤
I just love your family. I especially love that you are teaching your children how to participate in life. I feel that most childen nowadays have zero life skills taught to them .
I used my turkey roster to cook down my speg. Sauce, saves a little time and no need to tell you about time .
So very true! This is the way I was raised which resulted in hard working adults! I raised my daughters the same! Parents are not doing their children any favors by not teaching and including them in life’s every day responsibilities!
I’m so glad you don’t “bubble wrap” your kids, and you allow them to learn by experience. This helps kids learn responsibility and gain resilience.
" No dont help me Mom , I want to do it " . What a lovely wee Man . Love from NewZealand .
👍
I think is great how well your kids handle the knives. Today not even young adults know how to handle a knife and are loosing so many skills due to convenience foods. You are a great mother, God Bless you all!!!
When I was taught to make sauce, I was taught to grate some carrot into my sauce. Since that time, I always do this and that's how I curb the acidity and sweeten my sauce. So good.
As I started reading I thought, that would add sweetness!!
@@Ruthannzimm I’ve heard of adding pumpkin as well, for the same reason.
Nice, thanks for the tip!
Same here. Last week my husband asked me if input sugar in my spaghetti sauce. He about freaked out when I told him no, I used grated carrots. 😅
Good job mom on teaching your children, that is what parenting is all about.
I’m sure you hear this million times, but just in case you haven’t heard today: your daughter looks just like you! Y’all are both beautiful 😍 ❤
“No don’t help me mom, I want to do my job on my own.” 😍 No malice or snottiness, just pride in his work. Love your kids. Bless your mama soul.
My heart swells with joy seeing you giving your children the guidance to help them with continuing your family background.
I love watching your way of life! I was raised in a family where we had a big garden and helped mom with the canning. The Lord didn’t bless me with children but I still have a garden and love to can and preserve.
Me too!!! Only i dont have a garden any more. I was able to take my canning skills to can meals when my sis in law had her baby.
i love the way the kids don't run around, or rather sit around, with an electronic device!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Since I've been watching your channel, I never cover my jars completely anymore. I have had much less siphoning with neckline canning.
👍
❤❤❤
“I’m a chef, I know how to do this”. How adorable.
Thank God you teach these sweet boys how to do basic kitchen jobs. Excellent!!!!!❤
I admire how you include your children in the tqsks around the farm/kitchen. You are making future self-sufficient boys to men.
Thank you for affirming that doing "something" helps. Not everyone can do it all. We need to give ourselves grace.
I just love hearing you talk about your Mom and things she taught you...along with the smile in your face when speaking of her 🥰
I would never second guess you on your children doing work and using knives.
They were about 10 and 12, NEVER complained once.
i give up; what's a pea trap.

Grab the onions.😂
Life doesn't have to be so rigid, it's okay to have fun while you're getting your work done.
I agree, they have & need to learn
I just love you keeping your children as a part of everything and they are so awesome to watch!
I love children being taught the values of life and I’m thankful my grandmother did the same! Awesome job mom!!!
Life skills much more valuable than iPhones or iPads love it. Your sauce looks great.
Thank You for sharing.
I LOVE that you are having the boys help with chopping! And I love more their willingness to help momma... Thanks for sharing. I enjoy your videos
❤❤❤
You are such a great mom- your main concern and goal in this life is to make sure your family has the best food without all of the chemicals that are added today. They are being taught the REAL blessings in life- family love. Thanks for the videos of your hard work and of course the family!
I really enjoy your honesty, and then an honest work around when life happens. Home kitchens don’t allow for editing. Please keep the videos coming!
Awe. Thank you for thinking of me!!
@@Ruthannzimm you’re very welcome. My pot of sauce are simmering 😊🥰
Love the way you all work together and bond as a family. We are missing this in today's society.
What a feast, so well earned after working so hard in the heat. Great to see the young ones helping and happy to do so.
I recently found your channel and I am learning so much! I am a homeschool mom of 13 kids six still at home under 18. I’ve been canning along time but not in large quantities. Do appreciate all the tips that I’m learning from you at 53 I’m still learning new things so I guess that’s great.
I absolutely love seeing the boys and hearing them talking with you and helping you make the sauce.
Ohh. Great idea. Thank you!!!
Your so very welcome sweet friend!
Thanks for sharing…Love the kids helping especially when Kendrick said No Mom don’t help me do my job. Priceless!
God Bless you and your beautiful family.
I love how your children are raised. To do chores, have responsibilities and not to do everything for them. This is how I remember being raised and tried to raise my own. Good job momma.
Thank you so much for that little nugget of information about the water level on water bath canning!!! It was a light bulb moment for me!!!!
That family dinner warms my heart

Love your family and how you teach them about living life. Thank you Ruth Ann!!! ❤Patsy
Your time management skills never cease to amaze me❣️
I boil my tomatoes in several huge pots, and I cut them over the pots to catch all the juices. Thank you.
I’m looking into getting a steam canner. Folks keep telling me it’s faster
Such a great video! You can tell you have the Father’s heart on how you encourage these young mothers to start canning ❤
Good morning Zimmerman family!
I am very late today, but always happy to watch at any time.
