Aronian must have analyzed 8.Bb3 b4 in his pregame preparation and didn't like the murkiness of 9.Na4 so he just decided to stop b4 before initiating his kingside play. Makes sense as black doesn't profit from the inclusion of 9.a3 in a way that lets him shore up the kingside to meet the white advance. It's a bit too serious for the newer people getting into chess. It'll see more gains as many of those players start to become intermediate level.
