It has always been a source of amusement for Copenhageners why so many tourists flock to the Little Mermaid. The reason this little statue became so famous is obviously due to the fairy tale of Hans Christian Andersen but to us, it is simply a part of Copenhagen Harbor since 1913.

    • @ThreeStarVagabond

It is a really nice walk along the harbor to get to it though! And you pass by a lot of nice scenery - so I understand why people enjoy getting out there :)

I frequently visit Copenhagen. The city never stops to amaze me.
Even after many years of service in the Navy, it still feels new and has progressive vibrancy, mixed with its ancient charm..
You can always find something to explore, no matter what the weather is like. And in case of perfect weather conditions, I can definitely recommend a boat trip around the old canal system. You can rent your own boat for a few hours, or take the predetermined routes, provided by the local tourist attractions..

That sounds absolutely lovely - I've never tried the boat rides but I should. I've seen Copenhagen as a wee kiddo, as a youngster looking to get drunk, and as a weekend town later in life. It really is amazing how there are new things to discover every time.

Hi Mário A. Happy for your feedback about my City. Now! If we could only teach tourists to follow our cycling rules, that would be great 🤣 ! Now some Danish cyclist are idiots too and should know better, but don't ! Every country has it's part of Morons 🙄 !

Violating traffic laws here, even cycling laws! You may have to pay cash (on site), if caught (you'll get at receipt, to prove payment ). But do yourself and us "locals" a favor! Learn the rules! It can get a lot more expensive, if you injure a pedestrian with your bike:

Here's a little secret! The official name of the "Marble Church" is "Frederiks Church". It was started in 1749 but ran out of founding. It wasn't finished until 1894, with a lot less Marble. But we still call it the Marble Church, and it's just across from the Royal Palace. Largest Dome Church, to this day, in all of Scandinavia and Northern Europe.

As a child I loved the fairytales by Hans Christian Andersen and Astrid Lindgren so I have visited both Odense, Denmark and Vimmerby, Sweden.❤ I know that many young Irish people love to visit Copenhagen because not only have my Irish friends told me and shown me their photos, but when I have visited Ireland and Northern Ireland I see them with huge souvenirs bags saying Copenhagen.
I love the Danish political drama Borgen & saw some the scenes used in your video.
As for the Little Mermaid statue being small, it has to be small because the fairytale wasn’t about The Huge Mermaid. Disney ruins all the fairytales it steals and it was Disney that invented “happily ever after” because originally fairytales were invented for adults not children and all of them have gruesome endings. I took a Children’s Literature course in university and learned this.😊
Disney also sexualized Pocahontas because in reality the little girl was 11 years old and Captain Smith really was a bastard and the story is really just made up garbage that has angered the descendants of the tribe where the little girl nicknamed Pocahontas originated from.

    • @Sigart
      @Sigart 2 года назад

@@ThreeStarVagabond Snow queen actually did have a happy ending, and would probably have done really well with a more 'accurate' rendition, considering it's about Anna going into the World to save her friend Hans, who has lost sight of what's important and can only see the beauty in cold logic and numbers. The Snow Queen here is more of just a natural disaster type of thing, not really evil as such so much as just completely doesn't care about human lives.
come to think of it, I think all the adversaries in it are women? There's a witch and robber's daughter that both try to take Anna for themselves while she's travelling.
What I mean to say is that it falls well in step with modern ideology despite being almost 150 years old.

I never really thought about that to be honest! It's good for long walks with pets, since it's pedestrian and bicycle friendly - but I think you still have problems taking e.g dog to cafes and such. And there is some traffic as well, so it could be a little bit dangerous for pets still. But no worse than other cities at least

most places won't let you take a dog indoors (museums, cafes, so on), so I wouldn't recommend going on holidays here and bringing a dog. However, if you're stopping over and need to go inside a store for one reason or another, you can safely leave your dog outside for the duration. And most cafes have tables outside, so you can have your dog with you there.

It is very important to know foreign languages on such trips. I would like to recommend to all travelers a practical guide to learning foreign languages by Yuriy Ivantsiv "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages". This book contains a lot of useful tips on how to learn a foreign language for tourists, students, entrepreneurs and anyone who needs a foreign language in life. There are a lot of good tips on how to solve problems with the language from beginner to advanced level of language learning. It turns out that the traveler only needs to know a few dialogues and you can easily travel around the world! You don't have to spend a lot of time to fully learn a foreign language, you just need to learn what you can use when you travel. I wish everyone exciting travels!

But picking up phrases would of course be a lot simpler...
