How do Chinese Parks work? Why are they selling WIVES?

  • Chinese parks are quite a different sort of experience, other than being a place for people to try and sell off their sons and daughters for marriage to other families, it's the only place people are really able to go out and practice their kung fu, dancing, singing, musical instruments etc. Of course there are the regular activities such as having a picnic, hiking and playing sports (as well as some boating and fishing) available as well. Come and join Sasha and I as we get the low down on how Chinese parks work.
The primary goal of attending the marriage market is for parents to find a suitable partner for their child. The standards of finding the right match may be based upon (but not limited to) age, height, job, income, education, family values, Chinese zodiac sign, and personality. All of this information is written on a piece of paper, which is then hung upon long strings among other parents' advertisements for their children. The parents walk around chatting with other parents to see if there is a harmonious fit only after their children's standards are met.
    Umbrellas used for advertising
Many parents do not have permission from their child to go to this event. It has been described as "match.com meets farmers' market" with a low success rate. In many parents' eyes, parent matchmaking gatherings such as the Marriage Market are the only way to uphold a traditional dating style for their children in modern China. China's long idealized tradition of continuing their family lineage is very important within Chinese culture. As the children of the One Child Policy start to become of typical marriage age, the so-called marriage "market" of China has wavered in stability, particularly for males in China. The University of Kent predicts that by the year 2020, 24 million men will be unmarried and unable to find a wife.
Recently, well-educated women in China with established careers are in less of a hurry to get married. They have more options than women in past generations and are not afraid to put their career first. This change in marriage ideology puts the women in a higher position of power within a traditionally male-dominated society. Now more women seek to find a responsible man with personal integrity instead of just a high paying job.
Many men's standards have changed with the progression of women's status in the work industry as well, they expect a woman that has been educated and well on her way to a career path. But what has drastically changed is the older generations viewpoint on the subject-they agree with the younger generation, with the two most important qualities in a wife being "elegance and a decent career path," quite a change from "diligence and the willingness to suffer the burden of life".

Richard Li You do not have anything better than troll a gentleman's video insinuating false facts about his character ? Let me guess you are Winston's personal doctor .... I doubt that seriously as I would think being married to Sasha a doctor she would be his doctor ... Before you even reply back saying he had an STD before he met her let me point out in China you can not get married with life long STD's ... In regards to the places he goes if you looked at Winston's video you would know he does not like to go where the tourists frequent ... As far as dodgy places he may or may not go just because he goes to them does not mean he partakes in any of the dodgy services in them . Just because you can not restrain your actions around such places does not mean Winston can not ...
Just pack up your belongings into your handkerchief tie it on a stick and go elsewhere... You and your other troll cronies can better benefit this channel and the loyal subscribers of it by hitting the road 🙄

I wouldn't say it's selling wives, because there are no monetary transactions. It's more like a dating service organised by overly concerned older generations. I wasn't aware that they were doing it without the consent of the single men and women involved, but that totally sounds like something Chinese grandparents would do. Lol~

@@MoonLiteNite Dowry and bride price exist in many cultures outside of Asia. If a man proposes with an expensive ring, we wouldn't say he's buying his woman, right? It's a bit judgmental to use "buying" and "selling" to describe the situation.

@@Leveosaa Sadly that's a false equivalence. Although I can somewhat see where you are coming from
However if we are to use an exemplum; a person in a certain country goes to the government office to get something done and the worker there says he can do it quicker for a gift. That gift is naught more than a bribe in reality.
A bride price in reality is a price on the bride (who knew), now that doesn't mean that's bad, but to say that something that involves price and a transaction of wealth for something isn't "buying" and "selling" is ludicrous. Now it can be that it is done with a symbolic price in that case it is just tradition.

    • @Leveosaa
      @Leveosaa 4 года назад +2

@@captainlafty4606 Marriage in many cultures involve exchange of money and gifts. It seems arbitrary to label one as a tradition and the other a business transaction.
What was described here in the park is more of a dating gathering without the Internet. No money was involved in that specific process. You don't take off the poster and pay the other grandmother right then and there. They exchange contact info and tell their grandkids afterwards about this new guy/girl they found in the park. The real issue here is grandparents reduce their grandchildren into education, properties, salary, career and appearance. That's the sad part.
Now, there are actual cases where Asian women being kidnapped and sold to men in other countries or regions. That's the real selling and buying of wives.

But every time they slip in the vocabulary or the sentence structure, their whole accent comes across as artificial. For me, this makes them look disingenuous.
Sasha your english is awesome, your accent is absolutely adorable and makes your personality shine through. The same way that any person should do (native or non-native, myself included) continue advancing your vocabulary but don't bother trying to change the accent. Even native speakers have a large variety of accents and there are plenty that have horrible vocabulary. Be proud of where you are. You've done great!

      如果Everyone can judge China。

Shut up, you stupid. We Chinese do not need you to like it. The things that you anti-Chinese foreigners comment on in the video produced by this blogger are more demonizing China and insulting China. I have seen enough. Since China is really so evil, why do foreigners living in China not go back to their own country, must they feel distressed in China? The psychology of masochism, is it? Haha. These losers, eat Chinese food, drink Chinese water, play with Chinese immature young girls, and then fucking to make some one-sided subjective videos for you to insult and smash. Fuck these rubbish. What qualifications do they have for discussing China? They should go back to their original shit and expose those who don't dare to go out at night, sucking marijuana and keep saying: "I need more freedom! God bless me tomorrow I can continue to live. "The idiot. Haha, all the bad things in China can be fucking and related to the Communist Party? ! To be honest, you are not just hating the Communist Party. The Soviet Union was disintegrated. Does the West forgive Russia? Answer: No. The motives of the West are simple. They don't want to see the developing and growing countries grow and develop so that they can better exploit other countries to serve them. Of course, this does not mean that I hate foreigners who are honest and friendly in China. In addition, there is no perfect country in the world. How do you evaluate your country?

Another thing I'd like to comment on is this is actually very interesting phenomenon in modem China, you should have some depth of what social problems behind the story instead of an eye-catching headline, you'll find out it's much less then commercial or about money, rather it is more about the agonies of Chinese dads moms over their unmarried, untraditional children in an ever fast pase society.

I think wife park is a good idea. I would have liked it if my mom had interviewed the mother of the girl I was going to date and make sure she is from a good family. Obviously China has many income levels so parents don't want their son or daughter to marry into a family of hard up, money hungry scammers.

The urbanization of the heavily populated areas makes it harder and harder to preserve green space. I went to a park in Seoul S. Korea that was barely .8 km (half a mile) square and the people I knew drove for 30 minutes to get there and really treasured it and were proud of their green space, they were showing it off to me. Being from Canada, I didn't appreciate the value of a space like this in the heart of such a huge urban center.

BULLSHIT! they are not selling wives or their sons or daughters, it is match making for their children, in China specially HANs they only allow to have one child, they love their only child and hoping they should get marriage when they supposed to when they come to the right age. And if the son or daughter still not seeing anyone, the parent will try to get involve and here you have the parents in the park posing their son or daughter bio, its a match making like your friends finder online. Besides its free and genuine rather then many match making agency(they cost you a lot and there are many scam agency too)

There no financial transactions or exchanges involved or discussed in these Chinese places either.

Almost impossible in Europe where everybody is kind of ashamed to do it in public. Also I wonder if through these marriage ads, a foreignor can find a spouse, too? And their vending machines and small shops are so advanced in terms of payment methods. On the other hand, Wechat customer service is unreachable if you need anything.

If you go to Shenzhen you really need to visit Lian Hua Shan (Lotus Flower Mountain) park. And there are several other parks that are also very nice. I lived in Long Gang district for about 3 months, near a park called Long Cheng. There are also several small to medium sized mountains near or in the boundaries of SZ. These are hills in the 2000 to 3000 meter range. And in Hong Kong, very near, there are also several very interesting places if you like hiking.
To find them, the search engine to use is Bing, since Google is not available in China.
Try to go on a non-holiday weekday when everybody is at work. Then you will have a lot of space in the park. Weekends and holidays are going to be very crowded.
Also, be ready for many steps if it's a mountain. The mountains tend to be very steep, so they tend to put steps instead of ramps. Personally, this hurts my knees after a couple hours. Take a walking stick, at least that helps me. Rubber tip for the brick pathways.

I never planned on a Thai wife, I met her whilst working there and over the 6 months there connected strongly and we have been together for 7 years. for chinese living in other countries, there are match makers available. kinda like real estate agents... lols. but it's mostly still the grandparents who are shopping for their grandkid's partner. some of the people just go along with it just out of respect for their grandparents.
Especially when the grandparents are at an age that is close their end. They want to make sure that the grandchild they love the most ends up with a good partner or family. the grandchild in return goes along with it out of respect to their grandparents, plus more often than not, the favorite grandkid also loves the grandparent alot anyway.
it never goes outside a normal meet and greet over lunch/ dinner. it'd be the male the female, their grand parents and the "matchmakers" in there. LoLs. it's a bit awkward.. but it never goes farther than getting each other's phone numbers nowadays. And if they hit it off, then good, they can continue to date, if not, then they simply just ghost each other eventually.
It's really not as bad as other people make it look like, it's not different from doing blind dates, except wealth does come more into play compared to your friends who just match people depending who they think will make a cute couple. LoLs.
But there was this video i saw where the grandparent from one of these parks go, "25?!? Too old!" that made me lols. That doesnt happen outside china though where woman are much more empowered and the ones with really good professions are respected. LoLs.
