    I've watched lots of reviews of the A1. This is the first real review, that's not just reading off the printer's spec in exchange for a free printer. Thanks!

    Did you grease with 'S2 V220 1' like Shell Gadus ? Your bearings sound dry and not lubricated. Any machine I buy I strip down the linear rails off the machine, soak the rail and carriage in IPA for 20 mins and then once dried off, apply the proper grease as mentioned to the back of the carriage (fia holes in the rail to access and via the lube holes each end of the carriage, you need tiny amounts but without, they sound like this.

    I have the same issue with the x-axis. (A1-mini)
    Bambu, “we use an MGN block on the x-axis with higher tension for accuracy, the side effect is a louder system”
    The Z axis is a screw and the Y axis is rollers on a cylindrical rail. Those have each been quiet for me so far.
    I also have had an issue where the plastic housing on the linear bearing rubs on the rail and squeaks miserable. Station 1 on my AMS lite is also having an issue with squeaking as well.
    And what I get in return is “that’s normal” for most of it.
    Lubricating the face of the rail and working the head assembly has reduced the rail squeak. The crunch from the bearings has slightly improved with wear in and cycling lubricating oil and cleaning the rail frequently.
    They do not sell replacement oil, so I went with superlube with ptfe from Amazon. They said that would be fine. I would prefer krytox but I’m not sure which temp range and viscosity is best. (Also $$$)
    I have had responses from them daily, I’ll give them that.
    But the machine was DEAD quiet upon arrival… so it’s a big change.
    The biggest challenge I’ve faced is trying to use the full 180mmx180mm plate. The plate rises in the corners when material cools during printing and collides with the head. Adding local heat helps a lot, in being a bed-slinger it exaggerates the issue by cooling the plate with rapid movement. Printing at a lower infill has helped but not solved the issue.
    It’s a good machine, there’s just been several arguably unnecessary challenges. A new x-axis rail is on order so I can mess with this one.

    I could guess thst Bambu will.include the rail in the "consumable" parts list, so no under warranty. After a while, when will wear out in the section most used for printing, You'll have to pay for an extra rail....

    I guess I am one of the few that don’t like this new appliance style printers. I prefer the PRUSA, LULZBOT and Ender V2 style of machines that are easier to tear apart, modify and fix. If my Prusa sounded like that, I would have it apart and repaired in 15 min. I am also not a big fan of AC mains bed heaters. It does heat much faster but I think it is just a cost saving measure since they can reduce the size of the power supply for the printer at the risk of anyone tinkering or repairing the bed. Just my personal opinion and I look forward to your video on the rail bearings.

    • @aim6mac
      @aim6mac  9 месяцев назад +1

      you are right, this isn't your ordinary bed slinger printer... To do any kind of 'repair' on it you need to be cautious to not damage anything since it's all fragile. I still don't understand why bambulab keep on insisting that the sounds produced by the X axis are 'normal' though.

    • @frankhovis
      @frankhovis 9 месяцев назад +1

      Mains fed bed heater?? That'll be fun for 240V uses when the wires wear...

    • @noclass2gun342
      @noclass2gun342 9 месяцев назад

      if its using ac mains power for the bed, then the power supply size has nothing to do with the bed heater... an mains power doesnt come from a 12/24v power supply... it comes directly from the ac mains power and uses a solid state relay to turn it on and off... if you didnt know that, then you probably shouldnt be tearing apart your printer in the first place

    • @noclass2gun342
      @noclass2gun342 9 месяцев назад

      @@frankhovis this is why electric appliances are region specific... 90% of the world is on a 240v grid... here in the us we have 120v 60hz grid.... plugging any north american appliance in on a 240 grid could be a shocking experience

      i did not know the bed was AC mains bed !!! im an embedded systems engineer , this is a huge no no ,the first rule of designing stuff is the AC mains should NEVER be anywhere close to the user !! let alone putting it in a slinging bed that can wear out the cables ,and do you really trust the users not to get any liquid on the bed while the machine is off ? i do put stuff on my 3D printer bed when its not in use ,as it already takes up space on my desk. depending on how they implemented the AC bed it could be potentially dangerous.

    Yeah my A1 x-axis rail doesn't sound like that at all -- but the printer is still overall much louder than the Mini. Bambu definitely rushed production of the A1 to meet the Christmas rush and the corners got cut on quality control. Even so, the A1 isn't as nice a printer as the A1 Mini is, but the larger volume is often necessary. The Bambu Top Mount might not be a copy of your Mini one, but I think its inspired by it. They added some nice innovations like being able to rotate the AMS to access the spools easier, but they rushed that too, and had to add braces to prevent it from tipping. Then the fact they ran out of screw kits for it -- lol! Honestly, without the AMS, the A1 is really nothing special -- I'd rather get a V3 KE with Klipper (and root). But that AMS is pretty awesome...

    I got the same bull from bbl support:
    “What you are hearing are the bearings inside the MGN block of the linear rail. The bearings have a certain preload which makes them more precise, but slightly louder compared to other bearings. Please note though that this is normal it expected.”
    When I questioned this they replied:
    “While the linear rail might be a bit more noisy, is should still be a silent printer during operation, when you are printing normally.”
    Thing is though, the more ours I put into it the less mechanical noise it makes. Guess it is grinding “something” down….
