I've seen that said about aliens and for me that is more terrifying. What you're saying isn't a matter of God or no God. It's more a matter of what happens when you die because the truth of the matter is that none of the thousands of Gods throughout human history have ever had any impact on the earth aside from human believing. You're just worried about if you'll meet some sort of God after death or if you'll fade into black, the latter being more realistic. You have issues with dealing with death. I'd suggest you come to terms with it as it happens to us all
@@ZValenT yes it's a quote from H.G. Wells the author of war of the worlds. Firstly it's a throw away quote on you tube . Secondly I have no problem with death or there being nothing except non existence after death . I don't need to reconcile my self with anything .
I only watched halfway through but it's an interesting interview with both interviewer and interviewee being as honest as possible with their questions and answers. However, it's interesting how Justin Welby addressed the questions intellectually (rather than from the heart) on the whole, avoids some questions and actually contradicts himself a couple of times ('I'm going to heaven' vs 'Deciding whether someone goes to heaven or not is above my paygrade'). It's obvious that he doesn't understand how it all works, but at least he admits so, and his heart is in a good place.
As an agnostic person myself, I found this absolutely fascinating to watch. Also as someone who for too many years had mental battles before finally accepting my sexual orientation, I've often felt personally that even if I did believe, I wouldn't be welcomed by the church. I thought he answered that very well in disagreeing but being against condemning people.
Believing that the State is God is the modern trend across many countries. Man cannot abide the idea of a monotheistic almighty God. The sheer arrogance of man in attempting overthrowing what God has decreed. E.g. This was a fascinating watch - the archbishop of canterbury comes across great here. I'm catholic myself so Anglicanism isnt my thing. You don't go to people and ask if there is a God. You go to God. The only way for you to get to God to listen to you is to have the realisation that his Son took your sin and nailed it on that cross. Jesus took our place because God so wants this world to be back on track. The bible says nobody gets to the Father without believing on the Son. Pray to Jesus that He will show you the Truth of Himself in your life.

I saw Welby in Worcester during the time of the presidential campaign and he was asked then what he'd say to Donald Trump and he said a prayer and blessing that he'd say. He's obviously changed his mind.
Alistair Campbell interviewed like he'd never had an in-depth talk with a Christian before. ANY Christian. It seemed like he asked questions to try and unnerve Welby, not have a conversation. '"Didn't you have a breakdown?".....and "Yes I know you lost a child..." he said dismissively. Welby handled it honestly and met him with grace, which is much more than can be said for Campbell.
God reaches out to us to show His undeserved and immeasurable love, but also His Holiness, Lordship and Sovereignty. We need to be convinced of our sinfulness in light of God's justifiable hatred of it to be brought to repentance, and a desire to be re-made in His image and ways. That requires truth spoken, preached or read, conviction by the Holy Spirit, faith and obedience, even to our hurt and suffering out of reciprocal love and sincere gratitude for His great love, His death on the cross in our place, and His matchlessness. The truth does not condemn, it sets free ✝️
I enjoyed this interview. Justin Welby comes across as completely genuine and honest and willing to consider other points of view whereas Alastair Campbell seems to be a lot more dogmatic with his atheism and unwilling to consider alternatives. Still, he does a good job with asking very good questions. Actually, they have both gone up in my estimation after seeing this.
"I can be good" "I can do good" but under really difficult circumstances? I can never be sure I can remain like that. However, there is a different impact when you see people remaining to be good under difficult circumstances, when it's much easier to be bad, and angry, and greedy and violent; and these people are believers. There's a lot to learn from that experience.
Very good discussion. Portrays Campbell and Welby in a completely different light. Impressive. “It’s all about knowing Jesus and God’s mercy.” Perfect summary of the Christian stance. Intriguing that Welby didn’t refer to Pope John-Paul II’s work ‘Theology of The Body’ that walks through the entire issue of human sexuality within a Christian context, it’s dilemmas and the response and compassionate support it requires of the Christian churches and humanity as a whole. Stunning life story from Welby. Love the daydreaming observation. Love how appalling Campbell’s research was at times 😂 The mention of Black Dog also shows a whole element of understanding and compassion. Campbell’s fervent sister must be a real treasure too. Brilliant interview.

As a Catholic I’ve always been impressed by the Anglican Church. The sea of Rome without England is certainly lesser. A reunification could progress the Catholic Church and place England back at the forefront of Christianity. I’ve never got why a Monarch can lead a Church. Sorry to say this but it seems absurd. And I am all for the royal family. The separation of monarch, state and church is the best system in my view each bringing it’s strengths but not overlapping. YMMV.

Anthony Bardsley well done you ,praise the lord the one true God . Amen
I think the archbishops analogy of God being a parent was personally the best way of describing God.
Yeah, an abusive, controling, sadistic parent.
Even now my dad threatens me with eternal hellfire if i don't worship him. ( no he doesn't really as he is a real parent)
Doublebass God never threatened you. He has given you a choice.
Juri could you describe the choice and the repercussions of the possible outcomes please?
Doublebass choice number 1 is believing on Jesus Christ. It‘s simple, and the consequences are forgiveness, life and joy eternal and partaker of the Kingdom of God. Choice number 2 is not believing. It‘s hard not to believe, and the consequences are the absence of all good things, and being eternally separated from God.
Great interview
Clergy should be respected, despite in the many years of war, soldiers laughing at the Padre who always had an official position in Army (Captain) they would always respect him and, when the jokes went to hard, an Office would step it. The British Army has had padres/pastors for 400+ years. They are immensely respected and in the battlefield all troops respect them. Don't forget your culture and its foundation(s).
One of the great men leading the Church of England and helping to lead all Christians everywhere is Tom Wright.

Welby is a very remarkable human being.
I like the way Alastair Campbell interview people ...
John Wesley wrote, "My heart was strangely warmed." When talking about the moment the Holy Spirit gave him a revelation of Jesus Christ.

The truth is there either is a God or there isn't.
And both are as equally terrifying .
Well it’s only god who decides at the end of the day.
Thanks for posting amen
Very interesting. I was impressed by both. Though for different reasons. Welby a true Christian man.
Loved this interview. Bring AC back GQ 🙏
The Archbishop was great here, I think Campbell was perhaps unnecessarily confrontational at times.
It's acceptable to be confrontational about religion when none of it has been proved to be true
@@ZValenT Jesus also condemned the religious of his day, as missing the point.
When an adult still believes in Father Christmas questions need to be asked. Believing in God is no different.
Believing that the State is God is the modern trend across many countries. Man cannot abide the idea of a monotheistic almighty God. The sheer arrogance of man in attempting overthrowing what God has decreed. E.g. God has declared 2 genders, the State hands our GRCs, basically saying ignore that, you are what we decide, now Hail Caesar! or suffer for it.
This was a fascinating watch - the archbishop of canterbury comes across great here. I'm catholic myself so Anglicanism isnt my thing. However, I'm surprised at Alisatir's objection that he finds things hard to believe - what makes him think that it should be easy? Faith is something you work at, not just something you have by default
@@captainbadger1013 That's incorrect. Alistair McGrath, CS Lewis, Tim Keller, Lee Strobel are worth reading if you are so confident in your position you are willing to listen to intelligent counter arguments. One of my best friends is an atheist philosophy of science professor, he finds a lot of value in the arguments in WIlliam Lane Craig and others. There is a lot of connection to truth, you just don't know the truths.
@@BenWeeks I've seen Strobel and Craig debates plenty of times and, in my opinion, they don't do so well. I'm currently reading Richard Dawkins latest book "Outgrowing God". "There is a lot of connection to truth, you just don't know truth". That's the sort of patronising and vapid comment I'd expect from a Christian.
Typical theist comment: Why should "things" be easy to "believe"? Huh? Inane, foolish, embarrassing, delusional gibberish. Meanwhile, why does your invisible god insist on playing hide and seek? The answer, of course: There is no god, zero proof of a god. And the Bible is a book, not proof at all. It's so embarrassing that gullible humans still believe this nonsense.
One thing I have to admire is the openness of the Archbishop, could you imagine the pope sitting for an interview like this?
Have we all decided Alastair Campbell's an alright guy now? He seems to be squirming his way back into the mainstream, after being complicit in one of the biggest crimes against humanity in history. Just thought I'd remind everyone with short memories.
Not sure if he's an "alright guy", but I don't see what benefit there is to anyone if we protest against his involvement in the Iraq War by refusing to watch this very interesting interview.
Thank you, Archbishop, for your clear
statement of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.🙏🏻
You don't go to people and ask if there is a God. You go to God. The only way for you to get to God to listen to you is to have the realisation that his Son took your sin and nailed it on that cross. Jesus took our place because God so wants this world to be back on track. The bible says nobody gets to the Father without believing on the Son. Pray to Jesus that He will show you the Truth of Himself in your life.
ALL that the Father gives me SHALL come to me, and him that comes to me I will not cast away.
The sun shines on the just and the unjust....what a great God...
Amazing interview, thank you!
Welby brilliant here
Yep....brilliant at propping up the elite, rich establishment and not actually answering the difficult questions....all while sitting on a personal fortune, while people starve....wicked man....even defends Trump??? What a twister of a man who can't actually commit himself to grow a pair and call out wrong doing.....Jesus threw over the tables of the money lenders. What a waste of an opportunity.

Fantastic interview, very revealing and informative
Jesus never wore robes and mitres and the money he had, he distributed to the poor. If I wish to visit the "House of God" (Westminster Abbey) I have to pay, I rest my case.
I dislike when an interviewer comes with an agenda as I feel Campbell did. The Archbishop handled it intelligently and with so much grace.
Praying for you Alastair, sounds like God is working in your life.
He is going to need all the praying he can get when he moves on from this life, looking back at history
I don'r believe in god... I believe in Alastair Campbell even less..
Hear hear...
If there is a God, Alistair Campbell is going to a very hot place when he dies and I am not talking about the Canary Islands.
Great interview, thoughtfully done.
We all have our views.
I have no doubt on what I believe, never had. Respect 4 all
spot on. Chrsitnaity isnt observing a load of rules. its about the witness of the the love of Jesus Christ for us. Perfect
Why are there so many rules in the bible then? Could you be more making this up as you go along???
No Christianity is following the word of God. That involves rules I'm afraid.
I’m not religious but I like this guy. Honest
Thank you Archbishop, you did an amazing job , Jesus is truly Lord and you told it like it is . Hope the seed is sown in mr Campbell’s heart , and one day we will see the fruit of your work , not an easy job , but very well done .This guy didn’t get it yet , hope he dose then and only then will he truly understand thank you

I tend to be busy on a Sunday- Lovely!
The most controversial question of all, which he refused to answer: 12:04
That was very insightful.
Why do God...and what sets you apart when you do God?...simple, you accept the sacrifice Jesus made for you and live accordingly.
This is such a refreshing tonic to the adversarial "gotchas" and simplified comments found on social media about this incredibly complex topic.
Touching, and engaging - two men at their simple best. Gods « headhunting » was spot on with JW
Felipe Van Leeuwen So only atheists are "bad, angry, greedy and violent" under difficult circumstances?
If only he'd done this interview with Welby's predecessor. Rowan Williams is on of this generation's best theologians.
Radio 4s John Humphries interviewed Williams. Superb. Much better than this;largely because Humphries wasnt looking for "Daily Mail" headlines.
@@joethespo When was this?
Very good discussion.
Portrays Campbell and Welby in a completely different light. Impressive.
“It’s all about knowing Jesus and God’s mercy.”
Perfect summary of the Christian stance.
Love how appalling Campbell’s research was at times 😂
The mention of Black Dog also shows a whole element of understanding and compassion.
Campbell’s fervent sister must be a real treasure too.
Brilliant interview.
The wil of God is the same, in the twenty first century, as it was in the beginning when Almighty God gave us his laws. Greetings from Northern Ireland.
There is no good evidence any god exists and even less that you know what his will is. Religion is a man made invention. God is just humans inventing superman as a panacea for everything they don't know.
YMMV.
Not only does the monarch lead the church, the monarch appoints C of E Bishops to the house of lords. How ridiculous.
PS I'm a Republican, Monarchy is outdated and feudal.
so strange that the Archbishop speaks in such a factual way without a shred of evidence to support his position.
Because it's a belief based on FAITH!!!!!
Not a shred? Surely you dont mean that. Maybe you think the evidence is not good enough, but you cant possibly mean there is 0 evidence.
@@lisarand7249 Faith is not without evidence. Blind faith and reasonable faith are not the same.
go on then provide evidence. If you can you will be very first person ever to do so. And of course if you can then we don't have to have faith. Your evidence will of course, by definition, will be based upon scientific evidence thus provable..

I was racially abused and discriminated against for being the only Asian Muslim working in a predominantly white Christian organisation, the Diocese of London. I hope that Justin Welby acknowledges this issue instead of brushing it under the carpet as did many of the staff members that work there, and I hope he takes active measures to encourage the racist members of his church to overcome their insular views of the BAME community.
Another brilliant interview by Alastair. Justin is a remarkable man.
I have to say - and though inane it may be - this is the way debate ought to be conducted. This is what we should strive for when talking with people we disagree with. An example to keep in mind.
The Archbishop is too guarded, too diplomatic, not wanting to ruffle feathers, very unlike Jesus or John the Baptist or Paul or Peter or the early apostles or disciples. No wonder Jesus attacked the religious leaders.
Justin Welby, you beautiful human being. Bless you.

Most revealing listening to this again in the wake of the Smyth horrors and the myopia of the push to advance Vennells.
The son of a widowed, tormented alcohol-dependent father whom I adored and still revere, I was struck by what he said about childhood.
