Yeh at 8:19 when Chuck talks about the team going to hakeem "coz he gonna bbq chicken shaq" and Shaq talks about finals and rings again. Thats an AUTOMATIC DUB for Chuck 🤣🤣
Thank God they're keeping this crew. Best crew of NBA they have. That being said, Kenny Smith is right. Sometimes a new coach sees something different and starts to show faith in a player that the original coach does not see, so a team does respond differently to a new coach. Its working for the Kings. I think that is what is happening to the Warriors, a lot of their youth feel undermined because of Kerr's favoritism towards Dray and Curry.
I like how once Kennys done finishing what he said, Chuck and him just stare at Shaq cheesing and laughing waiting for his response because they know they got him 😂😂
Doug simplified mikes overcomplicated offense and defense. Playbook was ridiculous at times. Doug’s coaching style simplified things to allow more freedom and flow on both sides of the ball.
They're also playing different players. Brown wasnt playing Keon Ellis and Devin Carter had been injured the entire year until after Brown was fired. They also barely play Heurter now. But why would several personnel decisions make a difference. 🙄
I think Coach Christie has unlocked something special within the espirit de corps of the Kings. In a 10 game sample size, the Kings have gotten a 8-2 record. I do think that there will ups and downs later on, and that 10 games is not optimal, but it shows that making Coach Christie our coach was a good move by the Kings.
Most of those 8 wins came against bad and/or injured teams. Plus the bulk of them also came with Fox out of the line-up and Monk running the 1 without challenge. I played at that level for 11 seasons and I never played a single possession for a coach. I never played with a single teammates who`s effort was dictated by a coach unless we wanted a guy gone and if that`s the case you don`t have a winning locker room and you might as well be sellers at the trade deadline because you are at best 1st round and out.
0:51 I’m with Kenny. Shoutout to Doug Christie for bringing up Isiah Thomas and the late Gus Williams (1979 Sonics championship team). I wish the guys did a tribute to Gus during the show. The Wizard was a really underrated player
They had a top 5 defensive rating over the last ten games then this game happened where houston scored a bunchhhh. I mean they held the celtics to under 100 as well as another team, and multiple teams hovering right around 100. For me, it's the eye test, they are playing some seriously good defense now. Really the only reason this game was close was because the Rockets started going mental quite unrealistically down the stretch. Not even a good three point shooting team and hit like 6 in a row.
Mike Brown is an OK coach. NBA coaches are a tight fraternity and all of them start crying when one of them gets fired, even though the firing was the right call. They act like they dont get the bag when they get fired but they do. Stop crying unless its warranted.
Coaching is important man, Shaq is just wrong how many times is he gonna try to push this. Someone who had Phil Jackson and Pat Riley wouldn't know it's importance.
Yeah but you also need a talented, driven player who buys in and sets the tone. Coaching can not do that. Phil jackson was not winning without michael, shaq, and kobe. Greg popovich has been mediocre without duncan. Even in football. Bill Belicheck has been lousy without tom brady. Andy reid was good but not great before mahomes
Shaq has never had to develop his iq, to make sound and logical arguments. Dude has relied on his physical attributes and size his whole life. If he hasn't understood it, he never will at this point
They gotta stop bringing up Mike brown.. they never talk about the change of their roster. They lost Harrison Barnes and other pieces without any replacements. They are basically running a 9 man roster and they have been a worse 3 pt shooting team than last year. Mike coached an inside out game and when demar came all that changed (not that’s it’s a bad thing because they’ve had success) but brown didn’t do anything to change the gameplan & so a change was needed. Not that’s he’s a bad coach because he’s not. He could probably get another job easily
Yall stop, it's not just about playing well. The actual coaching has something to do with it as well. Can't put all the blame on the players. It's both, otherwise what's the point of the coach? Be school they follow the coach far more and can't go rogue like back in the days.
Having watched the kings regularly I can say they have been competing much harder defensively and displayed excellent rebounding since the coaching change. They were never good under Mike Brown defensively even 2 years ago when he won coach of the year and he was billed as being a defense first coach
What is Chuck on? If youre team not winning you got to make changes. And sacking the coach is the first and easiest option as you cant easily get rid of players due to their contracts
he's confusing what happened with the way it happened. everyone in our fan based hates the way it happened. but winning cures all. it was the right move.
Kings are 8-2 under Doug Christie, but they still need one more piece to make a viable run. They desperately need wing help because they have way too many guards on their team.
What they've done is create a roster with very VERY good perimeter defense, Keon Ellis is NO JOKE the dude's an absolute menace I'd consider him an all league level defender. (Don't just laugh at me without knowing about who he is.) He's a fairly new player but when he's on the floor the Kings allow WAY less points, produce WAY more turnovers, and get WAY more stops. Dude is special. This is how you make a team contend with a non traditional rim protector. However, I do agree they need more size and a defensive minded wing alongside Keegan, who is a really good defender in his own right.
Charles: you're saying coaching don't matter Shaq: it dont 15 secs later... Charles: but, you don't think coaching matters Shaq: I never said coaching (don't) matter 😅
Kenny speaking facts about showing players love, Keon Ellis and Keegan Murray have thrived under Christie and all he talks about it letting them play free and supporting them. Under MB Keon had way too many DNPs
@ I beg you to watch keon Ellis and what he does when he DID play under Mike brown, put out the same defensive effort and proved himself many times, especially in the playoffs. The whole fanbase, myself included, struggled to understand why he wasn't playing even though he makes up better defensively, which is what MB preached all the time.
"worst defensive team in the league" brother we are 14th in defensive rating. since coach christie took over we are THIRD in defensive rating. if you're gonna be so loud in your criticism at least be RIGHT.
Yes the Suns should be a lot better than what they are. You have 3 guys that can score, but you keep losing? There should be no reason the Suns shouldn’t be top 5 in the west right now
Coaching is important but the players do have to take responsibility. Brown was the COTY 2yrs ago, but all of the sudden the team didn’t want to play for him? It’s the players out there that is making or missing shots, making turnovers, etc.. So once Brown was fired, they remember how to play all of a sudden? Ok
It's not like a disagree completely with Chuck, but how acquiring DeRozan should have ABSOLUTELY made the Kings better?
