You can’t recreate the magic of playing with your friends four player back then. Playing Smash, Mario kart, goldeneye, Mario party, etc. Sleepovers were guaranteed N64 nights until our eyes hurt. Good times.

Dudes. N64 is making a good comeback. With HDMI adapters, wireless controllers, and an everdrive, you can gets some like minded fellas together for loads of nostalgia.
Plus, fans have been making cool new games for it. There is a fan made smash bros with more characters like conker.

The N64 is the only system that I consistently had no nights of sleep from playing all day. I would even try to push my friends to go a little longer but they would often punk out. I did do some all nighters with gen 4 systems but those were rare occurrences. Good memories, like really good. If I’m being honest, they are still some of the best memories from my childhood (whether that’s sad or not, you be the judge).

@@christopherpope6396 yea, smash remix is pretty cool, I have it on a cartridge. The only area in which I think N64 needs more improvement is in making more classic style controllers for it, whether cordless or not, just to have the same control scheme you can have with the original controller. For example, I tend to use the left side D-pad for strafing and my right hand on the stick for first person shooter games. Turok, Doom, Duke, 007, Perfect Dark, Quake, etcetera.

just bought a 64 a few weeks ago and at first i felt kinda silly but once banjo kazooie started with that banging song at the beginning and seeing the rare logo put the biggest smile on me. Do not regret it despite the awkward camera controls. Also the old worn out graphics to me still feel very charming. Definitely hit the nostalgia jackpot on this one.

I know the N64 wasn't as big as PS1 in terms of sales but the games were more memorable in my opinion and the cartridges are indestructable along with the system since there is no moving parts and if it wasn't for goldeneye 007 i wouldn't be a first person shooter fan and there are underrated gems like Castlevania 64, operation Winback and among many others the N64 is one of my favorite systems.

Cartridge game console systems some surveys said are more durable and last longer than Disc based consoles, and the games lasted longer than the CD. All of my NES, Sega Genesis, 32X and SNES games are still working but some of my PS1 and Original Xbox games are unplayable due to maybe scratches and other physical limitations. And I saw some games now for N64 that are in one cartridge they put 340 games and it's $100, that's I think is a good deal.

Fun fact most people don't know about WWF No Mercy is that since the intro is done on the fly with in-game graphics, you can edit the characters attire in game and change who is getting the stinkface among other things...

I have been binging this channel and just mentioned the exact No Mercy scenario on another video, I know you commented on it. 40 man Royal Rumble, KO only, hardcore rules, no over the top, 4 players - each for 10 wrestlers. It was a 2 hour match and we would play it again right after. Really loving this channel. I was born in 1987 so a lot of similar experiences as Wes.
The other wrestling games were good but No Mercy was just perfect for the time. That is most fun I had playing couch gaming with friends. We would lookup CAW formulas on sketchy message boards and print them off to recreate the wrestlers. These were like notepad quality prints and we have a whole folder full on them.
I also loved re-arranging the wrestler select screens into stables. You could rename the stable and move all the wrestlers around. You don't get that in modern games. It was just an additional layer of fun.

I think it's a great console, but the selection of good games is a little underwhelming. If you ask 20 people what their top 10 or 15 favorite N64 games are, you're going to get alot of the same answers. No hate, just dont think it aged well at all for alot of the library.

Low and behold, it was an entire box filled with an N64, 2 controllers, and close to 100 game cartridges! I still remember carrying it home and plugging everything in to see if it worked, and it did!
007 was definitely my favorite game I played, super mario was also super fun. If only I had kept up with it, unfortunately I lost it over the years, probably misplaced during a move or something. great video! loving this channel and I'm really considering starting a N64 collection!

Although I partially disagree with most of the video, on the contrary I completely understand where you guys are coming from.... The N64 is probably 75% if not 80% built off of nostalgia alone. For example, I met up with a friend from high school whom I havent seen for years, and I told him I have a N64. So we linked up, I brought it over to his house, his initial reaction was very enthusiastic and excited but 10 minutes into gaming he was completely bored. Me on the other hand was pumped and stoked that we were reliving our high school memories, but unfortunately some people dont get goosebumps like I do when they go back to playing the console. N64 will always be my favorite gaming console, but I understand why some people lose interest in it after playing it 20 years later....

I think that a real shame(I know it happen but still), so many great titles on N64, at a time when games were just games, made with such passion and care, without all the fluff that newer titles come with(microtransaction, dlc, additional downloads, soulless entries, etc)
I would have to disagree as well, so many variety of titles to choose from(of course not as big as PS1), it'd be a crime to just have/play 3-5 of them only, you had Turok, Glover, Harvest Moon, Jet Force Gemini, Cruis N' World, Vigilante 8, Chameleon Twist, Wayne Gretzky 3D Hockey, Shadowman, Fighters Destiny, Snowboard Kids, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Pokemon Stadium, Mystical Ninja Goemon, Buck Bumble, Hybrid Heaven, Excitebike 64, Custom Robo, etc

I'm 19 and have no nostalgia for the Nintendo 64 and definitely agree with a lot of the issues that you guys brought up (The bad controllers, a few games aging poorly), but I got one a few years back and think there are way more must-plays that you guys didn't list (IMO of course). Paper Mario is an excellent RPG that hasn't aged a day, F-Zero X is still super fun and fast paced. Rogue Squadron and Battle for Naboo are excellent as well (not to mention Podracer). While the first Mario Party has aged horribly, 2 and 3 are still fantastic and imo 3 is the best Mario Party ever made. There are a decent selection of games that are still tons of fun to play and while many have aged some, it isn't enough to matter with any of the games I listed. I don't think it is hard at all to make a Top 20 or beyond list for the system.

My N64 story is pretty cool. I was staying over at a friends house and in the morning, he started getting really excited. When I asked him what was up, he said “I’m getting the N64 today”. Now I don’t know why I wasn’t aware of it being released but it caught me by surprised. Funnily enough, his dad (who was a lazy jerk) made us go for a “hike” before he would pick it up. I’ve never run up a hill so fast in my life. Then we got back home and so the AV cables. We were so confused “how do we connect it?” Keep in mind, up until this point, everything was through RF connections. Once we finally booted it up, my jaw was on the floor. Mario 64 still stands as the game I’ve been most amazed at seeing. It was revolutionary.
When I got home, it became my mission to get one myself. They were pretty much sold out everywhere, not to mention money wasn’t exactly flowing. But I worked on my mom for days and eventually got it like a week after release. So yeah, nostalgic for sure. Ironically, I find it the hardest to go back to N64 these days. The games just don’t hold up very well. But back in the day, it did blow my mind.
Side note, once I also realized how many awesome games were on the Playstation, I did my first “side deal” with someone to pick that up. I was the only kid in my crew which owned both the Playstation and the N64. I was the shiiiiiiit.

Ah, the Nintendo 64, my favorite console of all time (the GameCube being a very close second). Yes, if you didn't grew up with it, it may be a bit hard to get into it nowadays (mostly because a good chunk of the N64 games played on the actual N64 hardware do not hold up as well as they did back then), but since I am one of those 32.93 million people that had an N64 in the early 2000s, I definitely am into it even nowadays. I actually have a story regarding the N64:
So, at the age of 4 (in 2001), my dad had basically shown me his charcoal black Nintendo 64 and all his games. His N64 collection had Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, 007 Goldeneye, The New Tetris, Tetrisphere, Wayne Gretsky's 3D Hockey, Top Gear Rally 1-2, Diddy Kong Racing, Mickey's Speedway USA, FIFA 99, Madden 64, Wrestlemania 2000, Wave Race 64, All-Star Tennis' 99, Jeremy McGraph Supercross 2000, F-1 World Grand Prix, and Rally Challenge 2000; with my parents later getting me more N64 games like Star Wars Rogue Squadron and Shadows of the Empire. I played the N64 for a long time of my childhood, with me sometimes cycling games between the Nintendo 64, the GameCube and later the PlayStation 3. Let's just say that I was very happy with my consoles and the games I had for them, and did not wanted to get rid of them at all.
However, one time in 2006, my dad randomly decided to do a dumb decision that looking back at it in retrospective, it makes that decision look even dumber nowadays for multiple reasons. So basically my dad decided to give the entire Nintendo 64 and its collection to a random group of kids from some orphanage, and I said no, I want to keep the Nintendo 64, but dad said "No, you already have a GameCube and a PlayStation 3, you don't need the Nintendo 64 anymore.", so he gave it all away.
Looking back on that decision, it was a stupid decision of his, mostly because, aside from him forcing me to accept his decision, looking at how crazy Retro Gaming prices are nowadays and how much Gaming companies (especially Nintendo and Sony) don't care about Gaming Preservation (or their recent attempts at preserving their game libraries have been lackluster and underwhelming), the N64 is now more valuable than ever (as well as other Retro consoles), and there is a lot of games on the N64 library that will never, EVER, be rereleased or remastered for current Gaming hardware and will stay forever in the Nintendo 64 due to crap like licensing hurdles or the companies not caring to preserve their games (examples being 007: The World is Not Enough, The New Tetris, Rayman 2, Beetle Adventure Racing, Mickey's Speedway USA, Toy Story 2, Mortal Kombat 4, Mischief Makers, World Driver Championship, and definitely licensed sports games like WWF No Mercy, International Superstar Soccer, NFL Blitz, Wayne Gretsky's 3D Hockey, NBA Hangtime, and more).
Fortunately, my N64 story doesn't end there, as a year or two later after dad gave away the previous N64, I asked my grandma to get me an entire Nintendo 64 console with 4 controllers and 10 games included. Let's just say that I didn't have much to think about regarding prices, I was 10 years old and wanted to have my Nintendo 64 again to play all those games I grew up with, and grandma delivered, she gave me exactly what I asked; in fact, she got even more than what I asked, as she not only got me a Nintendo 64 console, but it was a Grape Purple Funtastic N64 variant, along with the Donkey Kong 64 controller (yes, the same one that only 5000 units of it exist in the whole world because of it being a Nintendo Power exclusive item). Grandma absolutely delivered, and from there, my quest to recuperating my old N64 collection began (and even getting some new cables and an EON Super 64 to get it to look much better on my HDTV, with great results), and as of right now, my collection definitely is much bigger than what it was back with the previous N64 console, and I have been enjoying a lot of my N64 game purchases like Rayman 2, Paper Mario, NFL Blitz 2001, and more that I got in the past decade.
Oh and no, I didn't have to worry about my dad giving away my N64 (or any other console I own) again, he doesn't live with me anymore, and hasn't been ever since I was 11 since he now stays with his mother, so no giving away consoles and their game libraries happening ever again.
So yeah, that is my story with the Nintendo 64, definitely speaking here as a longtime N64 fan and one devoted to keep growing the collection and taking good care of it, while also playing the games by myself, or with friends.

I think it depends what genres you prefer as N64 is not appealing to everyone, it only had a handful of fighters, only like 2 good JRPG's (Ogre Battle 64 which is a strategy RPG and Paper Mario), only a handful 2D style games (like Michief Makers and Yoshi's Story). What it did well 3D platformers, arcade style racers, early FPS's, multiplayer party games, and wrestling games.

One day, I'll get another AC adapter and plug, and I also purchase 2 accessories (Arcade Shark, WideBoy64), and I still need to get several more games in the system's library like Super Mario 64, Wave Race 64, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, Mario Kart 64, Cruis’n USA, Cruis’n World, Cruis’n Exotica, Blast Corps, Diddy Kong Racing, Bomberman 64, Bust-A-Move 2: Arcade Edition, Bust-A-Move '99, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Namco Museum 64, Paperboy, Excitebike 64, Mega Man 64 (the N64 port/version of the PS1 game Mega Man Legends), Paper Mario, Dr. Mario 64, The Powerpuff Girls: Chemical X-Traction, Razor Freestyle Scooter, NFL Blitz Special Edition, and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3.
