These space otters seem way more capable than the otters in the other story.
Then again, this story revolved around otter astronauts, and the other revolved around the otter ambassador and his family.
Astronauts _need_ to be super capable and adaptable to survive their job.
Ambassadors just need to talk good, and be likeable.
We need more space otters, or sequels with either set of space otters.

    • @monitorlizardkid8253
      @monitorlizardkid8253 9 месяцев назад +6

One of my yet to be published fictions has a whole lot of uplifted animals, it started with an unethical research corporation's attempts to make bioweapons, and everytime they had to change their lab's location to avoid being caught, they would dump their mutagens in the local river, meaning that the children of animals who drank from it would gain human like self awareness and the lifespan of a human, usually along with opposable thumbs and the ability to eat whatever humans could(imagine a python eating a watermelon, or a monitor lizard eating a slice of pizza.).
The corporations first generation of animal bioweapons(things like a cuttlefish who could shoot unstable explosive ink, like the exploding gum from "mission impossible" as well as regular ink), also had human-like intelligence, and were smart enough to not have a reason to fight. Being the jerks that they were, the corporation deemed them "failed experiments" and locked them into a room and left to them to starve, thankfully they were rescued by the main heroes of the story and became, well, "pets" is too strong a word, but they live with them.
Anyway, even though the entire corporation was dismantled and the survivors of the heroes raid on it's main lab arrested. The animals themselves were treated just fine, after all, it wasn't their fault they were mutated.
Now the usual policy of humanity and its allies when it comes to uplifted animals is to give them the rights of children by default, and if they want to be treated as adults(and endure all the trouble that comes with adulthood) they can apply to see if they can(and if they fail to qualify, they can try again every 6 months). You'd be surprised how many uplifted animals choose to stay legally children for their entire lives.
Notable uplifted animals besides the hero's companions include: an owl who may not have been wise from the beginning, but he is deliberately trying to live up to the "wise owl" mythos, however, rather than being a sage, he's trying to be an engineer, and he's succeeding, if this were the 60s he'd probably have a place in apollo mission control, maybe as EECOM or Flight Dynamics Officer(FIDO).
The owl's best friend, a crow who is smart enough to help the owl and to understand what he's talking about, yet is far, FAR more mischievous, whenever the crow isn't helping the owl or playing video games, he's plotting his next college prank, and he often takes advantage of the owl's scientific knowledge to be even more creative with his pranks.
      So does that sound cool?
if you want to hear about the hero's 5 companions, go ahead and respond to this comment.

🛸💯k As much as everyone loves otters you should do a otter themed playlist. Liked this one quite a bit but got quite a laugh out of the one with the kids protecting the younglings from the crab slaver pirates.

I didn't realize it was part of the same universe as a few other stories you've voiced in the past until I hear Olivarkus. *streams internally in excitement*
So glad the author continues to expand his universe. If I may so suggest, Aggro could you perhaps group all the stories that are within the same universe into a single playlist of their own? Would be nice to rewatch/relisten(?) to them all in one go instead of going everywhere trying to hunt down all the stories by memory.

There are a few universes I would love to group like this! All Systems Science University & Humans are Weird are two of my favorites.
I know Betty Adams has H.A.W. out in 2 volumes on audible, but I so adore how Agro narrates .

Definitely a good idea to have them develop to at least a decent sub-light drive if not an actual FTL drive before giving them too much. You don't want them to be totally dependent on you and just now KNOWING it's possible will give them a big leg up as well.
