    Thank you once again. Two-time melanoma survivor. As I have mentioned before, Stage 4 metastatic. It was everywhere with months to live. People get checked. Skin cancer kills.

      Well, you can’t just leave that there. I mean you survived that. Only months to live.
      You have to at least let us know what you did that made the difference. I mean you’re not exactly a statistic now. That’s a real blessing, and may be a good thing to share.❤

      I found a spot on my back where I had a freckle and you can still see the dark spot where the freckle is but a slightly lighter shade brown patch grew around it out of nowhere. If you compare it to the original freckle it's about 4x the size now. I just found this and my general doctor won't even see me until the end of July to give me a referral to a dermatologist! Should I have to wait that long?!?!

  • @Omiiee

    It would have been nice to include images of melanoma in mid to darker skin so we could see how it looks like on us too... inclusiveness in healthcare pls

    • @Omiiee
      @Omiiee 2 месяца назад +2

      Actually, I've seen a few videos from other derms and influencers and not a single one of them had shown other skin tones so I'm gonna change my wording. It's not 'nice' but what I should have said was BARE MINIMUM. The medical field is incredibly exclusionary and lacks medical images of symptoms on brown/black skin which leads to signs not being picked up and putting us at a greater risk. If the aim of this post was to promote awareness, you should've not take an exclusionary approach, even if it did come from a place of unintentional ignorance.

    I lost my momma to melanoma in 2012. She had a lesion on her upper arm. For YEARS, her asinine GP told us it was just a skin fungus. I got so fed up, that I made her an appointment with my dermatologist. He diagnosed melanoma immediately. Within 2 years, she was gone. Get a full body check at least once a year. BY A BAORD CERTIFIED DERMATOLOGIST. Please. 🙏

What’s super crazy is you can tell the difference big time between the health and unhealthy skin. I had this one client that had Sun damage , It was in an outline of a one piece bathing suit.

    My dad died from a mis-diagnosed 'cyst' that was melonoma, on his upper leg, by his regular Doctor. It metastatizied to his brain in 9 months.
    This is in Australia, well known for excellent skin care and melanoma is pretty common due to outdoor lifestyle.
    Never skip a body scan for skin cancer from a dermatologist.

    In Maine there are a shortage of dermatologist
    The largest office isn't accepting any new patients in Augusta
    They are referring out to smaller offices and the wait is 6 months to a year at most of these places
    We got in on a cancelation but will need to drive almost 4 hours round trip
    Very scary for people that have serious problems

      I just googled it and it says that the rate for indigenous ppl to get melanoma not die from it is 2.2 for every 100,000 versus 5.1 for European descent ppl and that's from the official Australian website. Here in the US I found studies that show indigenous ppl actually have higher rates. Wear sunscreen...EVERYONE should. At this point if you don't just plain stupid.
