    Hey everyone! This is an incredible trick that sounds too good to be true. The spectator shuffles the deck, then they name any suit that they want, then they shuffle the deck AGAIN!! The cards are spread out with no funny moves, and the suit that they named is the only suit that is in perfect numerical order within the chaos of the deck. WHATTT?!?! Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe!

    Here’s an extra little subtlety that I added that makes the effect even better if you guys are interested:
    Do the normal setup as shown in the video, but add one thing. Take any two random black cards out from the middle, and place one on the top and one on the bottom of the deck.
    Now proceed with the first riffle shuffle. Afterwards, you can actually flip the deck over face-up (because that black card you placed on the bottom will conceal that Ace of diamonds). *Quickly* spread through the deck to show the shuffled order, just don’t take too long or they’ll notice the red cards in order!
    Then do the rest of the trick with the deck face-up! Depending on which suit they choose, you still have to cut either a big pile or a little pile, but when the spectator shuffles the face-up cards they will SEE AND FEEL THE FACE-UP CARDS getting really shuffled!
    This is a really subtle extra touch, but in my opinion it makes the entire trick even more fooling! Enjoy!

    I ask them: do you choose red suits or black suits? If they choose black I eliminate them. If they choose red, I ask them to choose between hearts and diamonds!

    • @djyahtzee7260
      @djyahtzee7260 4 года назад +4

      That has been called 'the magician's choice' as I have always seen it done. It seems more natural for the selection of the desired suit. Seen it and done it many times.

    • @cassie8844
      @cassie8844 4 года назад +5

      @@djyahtzee7260 yes it's so good! But it becomes a little suspicious when I do it many times and every time it's different because the audience asks "i picked red, why didn't you eliminate them like the 1st time?"etc. But it's still great!

      @ManekaAgarwal 2 года назад

      Thank you! When I heard Nathan talk about his method I was dying to come and comment down here about how you can present a binary choice instead between red and black, and then proceed. r/beatmetoit !

    Love it. One thought on equivoque: I find that it works best when the question is geared toward 'motion' rather than selection. If this were a choice of 3 cards, you would ask the spectator to slide 1 card away rather than asking them to choose. The linguistic equivalent of that is to ask the spectator to imagine the deck and 'remove' a color. If they say black then you say 'great let's remove them... that leaves the red'. Then you can follow with exactly the same question concerning hearts and diamonds and it seems completely fair. If they say red, then you say "great, let's imagine that we are looking at those red cards... which suit would you like to take out from those?". This line of questioning is very deceptive... to the point that even someone that knows equivoque may know that it's being used but they can't sort out exactly how because each question was consistent with the other. Every outcome looks perfect in this situation because you are mixing 1 layer of equivoque with a multiple out between two suits.

    • @AMillionCardTricks
      @AMillionCardTricks  4 года назад +3

      Great advice, thank you! I agree that asking for a color first is probably way safer. I actually know a way to psychologically force the color red while asking this question which was created by Ross Tayler (used in the circle force, I didn’t want to reveal this method on RUclips of course), but that method is what I would usually use.

    • @chrisbaier6252
      @chrisbaier6252 4 года назад +2

      I was thinking: pick two suits. If they pick red/red, you can say ‘choose your favorite”. If they choose black/black you can say ‘ok, let’s eliminate those’. If they say black/red, you can say “lets eliminate those’ and they choose another one, and based on that choice , you choose to eliminate or use that one. That way it might seem a little more random. Or if you let them choose one suit, you can say ‘ok, that’s black, you have chosen to eliminate all the black cards” or ‘ok, that’s red’ do you want to me to use diamonds, or change to hearts? That way it seems they are making choices rather than being forced. Especially if at the end, they are ‘choosing’ either diamonds or hearts. If you do the trick again, you could swap the diamonds for spades, and force them to choose between hearts and spades, so it will seem more ‘random’.

    Sneaky way to force Heart or Diamonds
    Me: What do u like more Red or Black
    Spectator: Black
    Me: ok then we take red, heart or diamonds?
    Spectator: Heart
    Me: We take again the opposite: Diamonds😎
    If he says red in the first Step u just continue WITHOUT the opposite

    I think it is better do the magician;s force once before let the spectators choose the suit. It is weird that when they pick a black suit we need to do the "pick one more suit and throw both suits away" move. Let them choose red or black first and the force them to choose between hearts and diamonds is more natural in flow IMO. It is one of the best beginner level's tricks I have ever seen though, very appreciated!

    • @AMillionCardTricks
      @AMillionCardTricks  4 года назад +2

      This is true, however there is an alternative to the traditional riffle shuffle. There’s something called the Rosetta Shuffle, which in theory is way easier to do than the riffle, but actually does the same effect. If you do some research and find a picture of it, you’ll see what I’m talking about. You basically take the two halves and spin them into flower shapes, then have the spectator simply push the cards together!

  • @seraph127
    @seraph127 4 года назад

    There's a trick in _Expert Card Technique_ that uses this principle - Jack MacMillan's "Mind Mirror", but it's used in a different way. My failing memory vaguely recalls that this kind of thing was among Charles T. Jordan's discoveries from riffle shuffle work. There's a great trick using this but I can't recall the specifics, so here's some ways to do it: Have a suit stacked at the top - say Hearts. Undercut about 1/3, jog one, shuffle off, form break under jog. Invite your spec to choose a card, and spread the cards above the break a bit quickly, then slow down at your break and spread widely. You're sort of Classic Forcing, but you have 13 chances to hit. From here, you have options: 1) After the selection, close up the deck. Cut a little deep for the return, or dribble a bit slowly until stopped for the replacement. 2) As soon as the card is drawn, the left thumb pushes one card over so the right fingers can pull it onto its half, then split the spread there.The card is returned on the left half and it will be displaced by one. The idea is to have the card replaced in a spot that's not the one from which it was drawn. Now have the spec do the 2 riffles. Retake the deck and spread face up as you note how the cards are now hopelessly mixed. Ignore everything except the hearts; look for the one heart that's out of A-K order. From here you can go about any where. Do a mental reveal, slip the card under the spread to the back and do whatever you can think of.
    Cheers.

    • @AMillionCardTricks
      @AMillionCardTricks  4 года назад

      Wow that’s a really great application to this principle! I own Expert Card Technique so I can check that trick out in more detail, thanks for the recommendation!

    • @seraph127
      @seraph127 4 года назад

      A Million Card Tricks Something occurred to me. Assume one has done the spread displacement. Before handing over the deck, you’ll need to idly shuffle off at least most of the cards you originally shuffled onto the hearts so that the heart run will be at or within a VERY few cards of the top, or this will blow up.

    I have an affinity for the ace of spades and would always choose spades. Time for the 'magician's choice'.
