I never thought I could be stirred so deeply by these particular two books of scripture. Solomon 2:4 said to me The Lord can lead each of us to places in which we can feel his love be it in the temple, someone’s home or speaking to someone. The ways and places are so varied.
I love all your videos because of the incites you give us into the Old Testament. I am glad I am late listening through this one. In your Isaiah videos, you taught me see the manner of poetry among the Jews. So I see the triplicate analogy in Song of Solomon 6:10. I appreciate what you say about that verse, at minute 1:38:22 "Fair as the Moon, Clear as the Sun". I doubt Joseph Smith remembered or tried to quote it. Which means God was speaking through him. It is exciting to be living in the time that Doctrine and Covenants 105:31 is coming to fulfillment. When God's army has "becoming very great." With church membership now about 16.8 million members. General Conference also gives me hope that we are being sanctified as well. :)
Brother Halverson, my main comment is and always will be Thank you. I would not be alive without your incredible insight. Coupled your willingness to dedicate so much time teaching us. Please tell Sister Halverson, I am so grateful for her influence in my life. One day I know I will be privileged to meet you both. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Sincerely, Sis. Reedy

One thing that is stood out to me in our studies in the Old testament is how death is perceived. It seems that it is something to be feared or a punishment. I just realized how Christ's Resurrection removes that sense of finality that death presented prior to his resurrection. I personally know that death is not the end from my death experience, it is something that is an evolutionary part of our spirits and not to be feared. I see Solomon's struggle against death as I did with job and many others. Thank you for opening up channels for my heart to be instructed by the spirit! ❤️
I love studying with you and these books 📚 Yes, I have a study partner, Thank you Brother Jared Halverson 🤗😘💡 Because I have been reading alone for years. I'd read to my children and have them,we would have great studying Times ❤️ Now, I am alone except my furbabbie 😺 She enjoys your voice and watch you on TV 🙂
The summary of Song of Solomon is the most enlightened i have ever heard ! You are gifted in bringing application and metaphoric perception. Thank you 😊!
Thank you again Jared. I was thinking after you finished Ecclesiastes that if it was Solomon who wrote it He forgot the reason for the hope that is within us all. To me it testifies of the hopelessnes and the vainness of life without the knowledge of the Atonement. The Atonement makes all the difference. Solomon, in his old age needed to be reminded that God not only gave commandments, He promised a redeemer. The message of Ecclesiastes is Yes all is vain, but remember the Atonement!
Just wanted to share a thought I had during this episode... when you were discussing a woman’s confidence and recognizing personal value, you mentioned how Goliath didn’t need a pep talk, he knew his worth. Likewise, we should also recognize our worth, without doubt or intimidation. This is an area I really need to work on so I appreciated your thoughts here. After reflecting on this analogy, I realized that I don’t think I identify with Goliath. I identify with David. David didn’t need a pep talk. He was small and underestimated by many. (I can relate ;) Yet he knew who he was. He knew his strength. He had unwavering conviction that he could do what he set his mind to with the help of the Lord. Goliath stood before him, a menacing giant. Yet, undaunted, David prevailed, doubting nothing. Goliath, an arrogant and pompous fighter who overestimated his power, fell. He fell hard. There are many Goliaths in my life, but like David, I need to develop and cultivate the unwavering faith that I can conquer them all, and they will fall... hard. I need to do this without needing a pep talk. I am feasting on a regular diet of your inspired podcasts and am so grateful to you and the gifts you share, the inspiration you give, and the strength it has brought to my understanding and my testimony. Bless you, Brother Halverson! ❤️
Speaking of Ecclesisates, "vanity of vanities", and Groundhog Day 😆..... It reminds me of the Hindu/Buddhist concept of Samsara. Here's the wikipedia definition: Saṃsāra (Sanskrit: संसार, Pali: saṃsāra; also samsara) in Buddhism and Hinduism is the beginningless cycle of repeated birth, mundane existence and dying again. Samsara is considered to be dukkha, suffering, and in general unsatisfactory and painful, perpetuated by desire and avidya (ignorance), and the resulting karma.....Samsara ends if a person attains nirvana, the "blowing out" of the desires and the gaining of true insight into impermanence and non-self reality. That describes the human condition pretty well, and one that the Preacher in Ecclesiastes would agree with. There IS vanity in human existence, but what comes next is what makes it meaningful. It's how it shapes us that makes it meaningful.
One of the best books I've ever read and would highly recommend is "Faith of a Scientist". It's not very long, but it is extremely insightful. My favorite analogy is that of a watch in the desert. You may not know who put it there, but you know that this watch -- with all its intricate parts that work in perfect harmony to achieve a singular purpose -- did not just suddenly materialize out of the sand. Someone created the watch and put it there.
On the finance part, I've always explained it to my kids that as your income grows, the more "wants" turn into "needs". By way of example, when I made less than $20K a year, I couldn't dream of a car more expensive than a couple thousand dollars. Now that I make several times that, I feel like I can't afford to get a car that cheap because of all the hassles that come with more repairs, lowered reliability, etc., and the somewhat nicer cars are markedly more expensive to buy and to insure.
The day has come when each individual son and daughter of God must learn to go to the well of all knowledge and Truth for themselves to learn which secular and political paths are safe rather than blindly giving that personal responsibility wholly and completely over to other mortal men (yes, even to Prophets and Apostles) expecting them to do for us what we MUST learn to do for ourselves if we are to survive what is now being unleashed upon us. The wise will follow President Nelson’s repeated recent emphatic warning that we MUST learn to go to our Father in Heaven, the source of all knowledge and Truth, that we may PERSONALLY receive wisdom and guidance DIRECTLY from Him through the sure witness of The Holy Ghost. President Nelson followed that admonishment with this warning: “THOSE WHO DO NOT, WILL NOT SURVIVE THE COMING DAYS”. We have arrived at the prophesied Day of Darkness and the rising power of “THE DRAGON” and “THE BEAST WHICH RECEIVES ITS POWER FROM THE DRAGON”. Their deceptions will be such that we can no longer depend WHOLLY on the Brethren to tell us what to do in every instance. We need the safety and security of PERSONAL ACCESS to the source of all knowledge so that our Father in Heaven can reveal the deceptions of the enemy to us and guide us into safe paths. The Brethren themselves have openly admitted that they have sometimes erred in judgement and made mistakes in the governance of the Church. To any who doubt that statement, I have the admission of the Brethren on it. In particular, Elder Gordon B. Hinckley, who frankly stated in 1986 as then counselor to the Prophet Spencer W. Kimball and spokesman of the First Presidency… "I accepted him [Mark Hofmann] to come into my office on a basis of trust …I frankly admit to being duped. Hofmann tricked us. We [The First Presidency] WERE UNABLE TO DISCERN THE EVIL INTENTIONS OF A MAN LIKE HOFMANN. He also tricked experts from New York to Utah, however. I am not ashamed to admit that we were victimized. It is not the first time the Church has found itself in such a position. Joseph Smith was victimized again and again. The Savior was victimized. I am sorry to say that sometimes it happens." -Elder Gordon B. Hinckley And from Dieter F. Uchtdorf we have this honest frank admission… “To be perfectly frank, there have been times when MEMBERS or LEADERS in the Church have simply made mistakes. There may have been things said or done that were not in harmony with our values, principles, or doctrine. I suppose the Church would be perfect only if it were run by perfect beings. God is perfect, and His doctrine is pure. But He works through us-His imperfect children-and imperfect people make mistakes…. This is the way it HAS ALWAYS BEEN and WILL BE until the perfect day when Christ Himself reigns personally upon the earth.” -Dieter F. Uchtdorf, one of the ordained members of the body of men called The Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ - October 2013 General Conference And from Elder James E. Faust, an honest honorable Apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ, we have this Truth… “I affirm at the beginning of this discourse that the inspiration of God is available to ALL who worthily seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit. This is particularly true of those who have received The Gift of the Holy Ghost. WE MAKE NO CLAIM OF INFALLIBILITY OR PERFECTION IN THE PROPHETS, SEERS, AND REVELATORS. Yet I humbly state that I have sat in the company of these men, and I believe their greatest desire is to know and do the will of our Heavenly Father.” -James E. Faust (July 31, 1920 - August 10, 2007), an ordained member of the body of men called The Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ. With them making an HONEST mistake in the secular realm being the RARE and OCCASIONAL REALITY, we must learn to DISCERN, LISTEN WITHIN, and “HEAR HIM” (the inner voice of personal revelation that comes ONLY from The Holy Ghost, not the Brethren) “OR WE WILL NOT SURVIVE THE COMING DAYS OF TRIAL AND TRIBULATION” (as President Nelson warned us). The Injections, masks, and social lockdowns we’ve just experienced over the past 3+ years are ONLY THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG. The treacherous deceits and deceptions that are coming from “THE COMBINED ENEMY IN SECRET CHAMBERS WHICH SEEKETH YOUR LIVES” (a dark force of TRAITORS within our own government who have COMBINED with our worst national enemies) is going to get MUCH MUCH WORSE and will test the faith of the saints (and all Conservatives and Christians for that matter) unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. It is quickly coming to the point where “EVEN THE VERY ELECT MAY BE DECEIVED”. Scripture warned us this day was coming. President Nelson has revealed that that foretold day is NOW UPON US. To any and all concerned, I strongly recommend a real study of the Lord’s warning in Section 38 of Doctrine & Covenants concerning the “MYSTERY”, of which he said: “AND YE KNEW IT NOT”(it will take the Church by surprise). He also said, that of which the warning concerned was to come “IN PROCESS OF TIME”, meaning it wasn’t an immediate threat to the saints of the day that prophetic warning was given but was a VERY REAL, VERY SERIOUS, VERY DANGEROUS thing that the saints of a future generation would be confronted with. READ IT! STUDY IT! PRAY ABOUT IT! It is my personal witness (I know it from the source of all knowledge and Truth) that that warning was for us today and concerns the things we have been troubled by during the past 3+ years, doing SERIOUS DAMAGE to our society, our economy, AND TO THE PSYCHOLOGY AND SPIRITUALITY OF THE CHILDREN OF OUR NATION. What we are witnessing and experiencing is the EXECUTION/ACTIVATION of long-laid PLANS formed “IN SECRET CHAMBERS” by “THE COMBINED ENEMY” whose hand is against us with THE FULL INTENTION of the TOTAL ERADICATION of Conservatism, Family Values, and the worship of God, not just in America but around the world. Total “DESTRUCTION” of the governmental order established by God thru our nation’s Founding Fathers is the enemy’s intent. There is to be no more government “OF, BY, AND FOR THE PEOPLE” if the enemy is able to finalize their long-laid Plan formed “IN SECRET CHAMBERS”. If that happens (and the scriptures say it will) they will have FULL CONTROL and FREE REIGN which God will allow them for a period of time. It will be the worst, darkest, most terrible days this earth has ever or will ever see. STUDY SECTION 38 Key words/phrases… “Behold, I show unto you a mystery” “A thing which is had in secret chambers” “To bring to pass even your destruction” “In process of time” “And ye knew it not” “The enemy is combined” “All flesh is corrupted before me” “The powers of darkness prevail upon the earth” And verse 29: “Ye hear of wars in far countries, and you say that there will soon be great wars in far countries, BUT YE KNOW NOT THE HEARTS OF MEN IN YOUR OWN LAND”.
Hey, I listen everyday with Bible open and pencil in hand. I often thank God for the men and women who have spent their lives studying the scriptures so that I may understand them. Thank you so much. Just a comment about what you said about roses of Sharon vs lilies of the Valley. Song of Solomon 2:1. Your red/white comparison doesn’t quite stand since roses of Sharon aren’t red. They’re pink, lavender, pale blue, white. So there must be some other importance. Maybe just how prolific they might be in that region? Just a thought.
Ok, so I had to make sure I was not leading you astray. Yes, ‘roses’ of Sharon DO come in red but it’s not typical. They’re not roses in the sense that you and I think of deep red velvety roses!
Love this. A thought that came to me when you talked about redeeming the dead, is that that means Christ and His apostles should not have been able to raise the dead. And yes we by ourselves cannot do this. We do not have the power to redeem ppl who are alive let alone the dead. But God does. And if He or His dually appointed servants could raise the dead, then who is to put a limit on God's power to redeem the dead as well?
The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you. Romans 8:11.
Job: *whimpers* ow. What did you do? Nothing! Had to be something! I'm God, what're you? Psalms: get a tune! Proverbs: the smartening Ecclesiastes: the book that launched the careers of thousands of Jewish therapists . . . Song of Solomon: GET A ROOM!!!🙄
Songs about love and romance are usually boring unless you take them to heart or experiencing love the same way. Even music today are pointless unless you are the one writing them.
Solomon Did turn away from the gospel in his later years, because he followed after his strange wives. Although he left the Lords gospel, he still had his wisdom. He was well known for his wisdom and wrote many things for the wizarding world. In fact they have twice as many of his words than we do. He was a Grand Master... Because of that, I have a hard time with a lot of his words. Especially, "When they are old, they will not depart from it." . Isn't that denying agency?
Solomon turned away because his heart....key word is heart.....was turned away after seducing spirits. He began practicing the occult and performing sex rituals in various temples devoted to strange gods. He not only turned away from the Gospel but he allowed the wicked spirits to led him into forbidden and blasphemous practices. "He was a grand master" Huh, where else do we hear that kind of language in scripture....I wonder. We always get the watered down audience friendly version of things but there is more to it than that.
Oh Jared, you do so well generally at reconciling opposites, yet you’ve forgotten that wisdom in the books of wisdom. Yes life is precious. Yes it is also meaningless. This is a hard saying for you.
From the outside in. Before God lifted me into the highest heavens(Centereach) I first descended into the darkest hell(Woodstock) to be tested by the Word. I called upon the Word and was delivered. Between those two experiences I read the Book of Ecclesiastes. The scriptures say the light can comprehend the darkness but the darkness cannot comprehend the light. Joseph Smith Jr. said: The things of God are of deep import; and time, and experience, and careful and ponderous and solemn thoughts can only find them out. Thy mind, O man! if thou wilt lead a soul unto salvation, must stretch as high as the utmost heavens, and search into and contemplate the darkest abyss, and the broad expanse of eternity-thou must commune with God. How much more dignified and noble are the thoughts of God, than the vain imaginations of the human heart! … Ecclesiastes is not for novice...
@Charlie L : How long have you lived there in that part of Long Island? How did God lift you? Seems like a well populated place compared to what I am used to in the west. How is it "heaven" for you? For my part I was not at Woodstock. I was slightly too young and not inclined toward "hippie stuff." But I have thought about it with the impact it had on the Boomer generation in America and what outlook our current leaders come from. My conclusion was that the "blood and sins of this generation" originated at Woodstock or "hell" as you have called it. Would you care to expand on that part of your comment? Were you there? How much of it? Am curious.
Recently learned that he leaves them here longer to repent of their wrong, only the good die young in his care, of harvesting where more 🕰️ is given to change their ways
I never thought I could be stirred so deeply by these particular two books of scripture. I'll never see them the same, simply because I see a deeper meaning and purpose for life and relationships-- particularly as I bring the Lord into the picture. Proverbs and Ecclesiastes seem like a recap of Job. What a beautiful overview and deep dive Bro H gives of all three books!
I love all your videos because of the incites you give us into the Old Testament. I am glad I am late listening through this one. In your Isaiah videos, you taught me see the manner of poetry among the Jews. So I see the triplicate analogy in Song of Solomon 6:10.

Just a comment about what you said about roses of Sharon vs lilies of the Valley. Song of Solomon 2:1. Your red/white comparison doesn’t quite stand since roses of Sharon aren’t red. We would love to hear from you in Lafayette too. Extend your visit?

Proverbs: the smartening
Ecclesiastes: the book that launched the careers of thousands of Jewish therapists . . .
Song of Solomon: GET A ROOM!!!🙄
Could you direct me to a book or info on the Temple symbols? I want to understand more.
18:13. I think the feelings here, by no are feelings of frustrations..
Psalms was used by my parents to fight with each other
That’s sad!
Well, Psalms is better than fighting with bullets.
Songs about love and romance are usually boring unless you take them to heart or experiencing love the same way. Even music today are pointless unless you are the one writing them.
Some may need to tary into Babylon before they make a covanant to God as a team to serve our missions in this life
Solomon Did turn away from the gospel in his later years, because he followed after his strange wives.
Myopia is near-sightedness.
Oh Jared, you do so well generally at reconciling opposites, yet you’ve forgotten that wisdom in the books of wisdom.
Yes life is precious. Yes it is also meaningless.
This is a hard saying for you.
U got the trio failure spot on, it only 1 to drop the ball of faith to tary into Babylon
Joseph Smith Jr. said:
The things of God are of deep import; and time, and experience, and careful and ponderous and solemn thoughts can only find them out. …
Ecclesiastes is not for novice...
Am curious.
I disagree. Ecclesiastes and every other book out there IS for the novice and not for the advanced weasels.
Recently learned that he leaves them here longer to repent of their wrong, only the good die young in his care, of harvesting where more 🕰️ is given to change their ways
Please tell us more! Can this be looked up about the good dying young? A friend just lost his celestial wife. She was only 64.
