No pet loss gets easier. You love your pets like family and their loss can be harder than a human sometimes. They are there always, they are by your side through everything, and they make you feel better when you are down. This video is so important for any pet guardian.
I still grieve my two boys, Orin and Oreo. They were 4 and 7 tumor, and just age and grief got the 7 year old. They were the best. 😢
This video was so helpful! Losing a pet is so hard, but what helps me is I think about all of the funny/cute things that my pet used to do. I think about all of the piggies you've lost often and their silly antics
Julia I really appreciate that, I've known and come to terms with the fact that I have to say goodbye to Bugsy, my first pet and guinea pig, and it makes me feel better that you've made this and I hope that I can keep going too and that whatever happens there's the supporting guinea pig community, even though most people including you probably won't see this, I just thought I'd say thank you :)
The heart piggies the ones that you just fall completely for with a special connection are the ones that truly it takes a long time to stop feeling the pain.
One of my guinea pigs whom I only had for a few months, all of a sudden struggled to breathe and passed away yesterday. I felt so bad about myself as a guinea pig owner because she was so young.

I'm so sorry, but sometimes young piggys die. I've had a few piggys over the years & I had a young one come down with something & then suddenly be gone the next day to. The chances are it was their time, & you had no real time to do anything. I've also had cat's & degus & you never get used to it but you will miss it so much when you don't do it anymore. I hope you go on & get another one❤

I have tried very hard to keep to the motto of "You can only do the very best you can do with what you know at that time in any situation" Sometimes it's hard to accept that. For me, this motto works better after the initial shock/anger wears off.
I had to say goodbye to my sweet little Peaches a few weeks ago, and those what ifs are still running through my mind; hopefully I can take your advice to heart and not be too hard on myself. I am glad that my family was quick to support and comfort me after the fact, and now Peaches is resting underneath our little peach tree (my sister suggested it, she thought it was fitting).
I guess the best I can do is take care of my remaining two piggies and hope they at least reach a nice old age.

We had to say goodbye to Booplesnoot at the vet yesterday. My heart is broken… he was almost 7, but I love him so much.

Props to you for being able to keep it up. Iv had 2 in my life and my baby girl passed away last November. It was devastating as she had cancer and I had to make the choice to have her put to sleep. I'm thankful I got to say my goodbyes before she left me. But it really hurt and I still miss her everyday. Her brother is my pride and joy at the moment. He has delt with her passing fairly well. But after him I really don't see myself doing guniepigs again. They are such sweet amazing creatures but the amount of heath problems they can have can make it hard especially when they hide there illness. At times I do wonder why people would think to get them as pets for children as I really think a child would struggle to care for them. But that's my opinion. Anyway always love your vids.
Thank you ,this video really helped me , I have 5 girls , started my journey 4years ago ,lost Coco almost 2ywars ago , she stopped eating , went downhill very fast and the vet hurt her when she was put to sleep , the grief and guilt is overwhelming, I looked at people like yourself and wondered how you coped , now i know these feelings are normal which is a comfort.
Thank you. It's been hard for me after I lost my skunkie. I won't get another one. The vets here didn't have to know how on a blockage he had. No one cared. So I had to watch him suffer and pass away in my arms. That was sooo hard. Never again.
I have never had to ask myself if I want to keep doing it. It's just a given as far as feel. But we also specialize in the elderly, disabled, hospice, and unwanted. So we deal with loss and little more frequent than most piggy owners. But because we focus on those that need the extra love and attention who would be a permanent at our local shelter, that's what keeps us going. Giving those who would see others finding homes, and them always being left, a forever home for however long. We also cremate our lost ones.
Just give them a good home with plenty of ❤ . Enjoy the precious time you have with your little babies 🐹❤✌️
i love your videos so much, and this is a very helpful video, i've lost 2 guina pigs one in may 2024 and one in march 2022 and i think about them and miss them every day. I currently have 2 guinea pigs who are both 5 and are showing signs of old age
today my piggie passed away he was 5, and passed away from heart failure. I already miss him and I needed this video. his brother had mammary tumor and is also almost 5 and I already know I’m going to be so sad.

Excellent videos! I think this was a great one, for sure. Bringing a realistic understanding of pet ownership. Deaths hurt for sure, but like you said, there are pets( guinea pigs) looking for forever homes. Thank you for bringing an understanding of these times of grief and giving a way to help cope with grief.
You are so wonderful in all you share with people all over the world. I share your site with many customers that shop at the pet store I work at. We sell piggies, and I educate them before they make a decision either to purchase or not. We have rescue groups in our area, and I share that information also. I'm so sad when people aren't informed that they are living creatures and we are responsible for caring for them properly. I will refuse the sale if I'm uncomfortable with the situation. It's very sad to lose a pet that you love. I have the idea that it would be so ideal to live VERY CLOSE to a veterinary clinic, so that geography is not the main problem. Also: I wonder if it's comforting to the " hooman" to be able to bury the deceased pet nearby, under a tree, or whatever.

Extremely important topic! I loved the way you brought it. As vet, I always deal with guilt and that's the worst feeling ever. I'm okay by now but I still don't feel prepared to have another gp 😢

Thank you for sharing your experiences. It was really helpful. I have kept small pets since 2011 and have experienced loss on average every 2 years. I agree with all you said. It is hard to grieve so often but I still feel it is worth it, a handful of sad days is a small price to pay for the thousands of joyful days. There are guinea pigs out there that need a home and providing a good and happy home for guinea pigs is something I can do and love to do so why would I stop?

I always print some photos of them, write my piggy a letter and get their favourite food to go with them on their journey when they pass away.

I don't check often anymore but each time you have a whole new set of piggies 😅 All my boys lived to 8 years (2 pairs) so it's kind of concerning you've had so many health issues with them. Losing pets is the worst heartbreak 😭

Wow that s beautiful 👼🙏🤍thank you ( it sounds like the way elephants grieve. Did you know that guinea pigs are related to elephants more than anything I’m sure you know that.) I think and feel it is true that we don’t ever die or spirit or soul that’s everywhere, right and if we choose a body which is like a walkie-talkie to come in like the souls like a signal, makes sense the smart guy watch RUclips explain it totally makes sense it you know you don’t die you like a signal then so the guinea pig will probably come by come back and also was it was it nugget I have to go back and listen. I just remember the nugget and all your other ones, but thank you so much and you know what my little kitty he was only like a year and a half and he was Mr. Guinea’s best friend. I’ve never wanted him to go outside. He was a black kid and meow meow and he went outside through the hole that was in the wall by the drywall but I never wanted to be an outside cat but he watched the other cat and now I think he’s in heaven because my psychic friend who has a RUclips channel also told me she sees a black cat she sees a black cat and I was meow meow I mean Mr. Ginny was meow friend and it’s so sad because I don’t know what to tell Mr. Guinea. He has all the other friends, but we only have one guinea pig which is unusual also right OK well that’s another thing. I always wonder should I get another guinea pig or he happy .. he seems so happy. I just don’t wanna get another guinea pig and then not be happy. Yeah 2024 has been our tough year we have lost 4 guinea pigs and our doggo the doggo and 2 of the guinea pigs were just in the last month and a half its not easy by the loss of the doggo i think i was just cried out so was able to "get down to business" since she was a 100lb doggo we just couldn't afford to get her cremated like we wanted and we knew it was coming as she had started declining 2wks prior. just an hr or 2 after she passed we had already buried her. We had already had an app to get her put to sleep the next morning but i guess she wanted to go here at home. We know this year will probably have one more loss, one of our first piggies is terminal and we are just keeping her comfortable until shes ready to go. shes still happy eating and all that. I don't deal with loss the same way others do i have always had a very practical view of life and death so i don't normally break down. My husband though has a soft heart.
My guinea pig was diagnosed with a tumor today and we are still waiting to find out if it’s cancerous or not and if there are more. She is still eating and drinking so I’m preparing for the worst and hoping for the best❤

My piggie Jelle (7,5) has a soar F.L. foot. To releaf the pain he got his foot in Pet Flex. When I did it I thought I did it right, but tonight I noticed something wrong..
I unwrapped all the Pet Flex, and saw to my horror that I unknowingly cut off his paw... It has been like that since last wednesday evening.
I hate myself for not seeing it sooner....
I am most likely going to have to have my girls put to sleep. One keeps getting UTI’s and she’s already had 3 doses of antibiotics in the last 4 months. The vet thinks she has kidney disease. She also has ovarian cysts. My other girl her sister has lumps that aren’t cancer one is really big and the other one is on her private area. It’s causing her to have a swollen belly and loose stools. She has medication that helped, but now she refuses to take it. I don’t want both of them to be in pain. They are still eating and drinking so I just don’t know.
I had 3 guinea pigs. Two piggies died during this week and the worst thing that even the vet didn't know what was the problem. I only have 1 now and he has the same sickness as his mates had and i'm scared that he might die too. There are the sympoms that they had: they stopped pooping and after that they stopped eating too and they became tired and they barely moved and after that they his limbs were paralyzed or something like that (they were like crawling) and then suddenly died. If someone knows what it might be or what should i do pls tell me because i can't loose the 3rd piggy. ❤
It most likely is bloat. I have probiotics in powder at home from the vets with vitamins in it. You mix it with water and give it to the piggy the minute you can see they are not pooping/ eating/ fluffed up hiding. Also every time I am back from holidays my piggies had lost weight and produce very little poop even though they are staying with a trained pets at home employee. There is also absolutely no shame in changing a vet, or even find a vet for exotic animals.

I've lost my guinea pig 6 months ago but not due to the dying i was forced Hand it over to another person because for some reason i could not keep it to myself and this was worse than guinea pig death to me and i can't forget it

after all these years i'm still grieving the seven piggy's that died from starvation, because the person who promised to care for them while i was on vacation, didn't ! and thinking at it makes me angry yet again!
That's horrible! I had a similar situation where I had my boys fighting so they were permanently in two cages, and the caregiver hadn't put hay in the upper cage for 3 days while I was away 😬 Thankfully all made it out alright but my boy was skin and bones and I haven't talked to that relative since 😤

In America the vets for guinea pigs are horrible. Every little problem is literally thousands of dollars. Seems like they care about them alot less than cats and dogs. It's very sad. Usually they end up telling you to put them down.
My vet ( I live in America ) has been pretty decent. She has a tumor and the vet spent about 30 minutes taking to us. He basically said her quality of life at the moment isn’t a concern because she’s still eating and drinking and runs up for treats so there wasn’t reason to worry about having to put her down for the moment until we know more. I’m sorry you’ve had a bad experience😢
@@emilyedits9228 my piggy is 5 years old now. Had him almost since he was born. He broke his leg at about 5 or 6 months old trying to jump and fell off the couch. First they told me to put him down then when they saw me get offended they said we can fix it but it will be $3000 to 4 thousand dollars. Kept him on pain medicine for a week or two and he started using his leg again soon after. Now he's 5 years old and 4.2 lbs happy as hell. Glad I didn't listen to them
