Well, I want that too, but apparently we need to fight to the death about it first. As long as she's not out collecting STDs, I don't mind, but it's not very easy on either of us right now- we've lived together for fifteen years, and right now I'm sitting here alone. I get why it's complicated, but she needs to remember that forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest. I'm more than happy to cater to her fantasies, she just needs to respect mine as well. She's only in her head because she won't listen to what she does to balance me out- I have been knighted three times, and I take that seriously- I don't care what people think about chivalry, it's important to me, and having someone to care for keeps me from... overreacting. She's not idealizing it- we feel the same way about one another, and we always have- she's just listening to old nags who are pissed off because she's my stepdaughter. I already raised a step family, and she's the only thing of value to have come from that, and I am *not* putting myself into that position again.
I know she's not trying to use me for my money, and she can run the budget if she wants- but she's way too focused on being the primary breadwinner, and that does not make for a happy home. I already told her, while it's technically my money, I consider my money to be my household's money, and I'm not going to sit here and watch her walk around in rags because she doesn't want to let me buy her a dress. And hell yes, I want a big marriage- a happily ever after needs a good start. I'm not angry at her- we were perfect together for months and months 24/7, and then some assholes started messing with her head and shaming her because it's pretty impossible to not see that we're in love, and they made up some kind of "rule" about how I shouldn't marry someone I love and am not related to because she's younger and I knew her when she was little. I'm sure they think I'm disrespecting her mom, but that isn't it- we're not divorced, she drank herself to fucking death while making everyone's life miserable for the last five years and I only stayed because of my girl, not because I wanted to be mistreated and neglected by an alcoholic.
