I live in Belgium and i speak french too. "Santé" is cheers and also mean "health". In french, when you say "santé" you actually want good health and life to other people... This come from middle age and antiquity! (Our medieval ancestors probably believed that drinking alcohol and drunkenness were good for our bodies... lol...) Toasting would also have helped to gain confidence with his companions, by discouraging potential poisoners. (glasses were wooden or metal mugs. Hit hard your mugs and the liquid spread out in other mugs.) This music is very sarcastic and there is a double meaning in the music, who talks about invisible workers/people so nobody cares and who work for priviliged people who spit on them... These invisible people, no one ever wishes them "Santé"! Only poisoners for them... Also this verse when he say: "Albert, quand on trinque, tu ramasses les verres" (Albert, when we toast, you pick up the glasses) have a double meaning. The first is the one we hear, talking about people who clean your dirty table! The second comes from a French expression "On trinque à votre place" (we toast in your place) speaks about the people who pay for the mistakes of the boss who manage them. "you little employee will take full responsibility for the mistakes of your boss" This verse can be political too.
ayee thank you so much for this!! i really appreciate the explanation!! any little details that tell me more about the song, im in for!! so again thank you for that!! and it is such a shame that most just walk all over the working class!! but i def see what you mean by it can be political also!!
Stromae is a genius of the words, the subtitles gives you the idea of what he's saying, but he really plays with the words sounds in French. I always loved that with him. And every music he made by the past as a catchy melody that makes you want to dance, but the lyrics are never very happy (but truthful), and that's really impressive. This comeback after 6 years (his second album dropped in 2013 and he stopped his tour in 2015) made me sooo happy, I was missing his music so much!
I am an American who is living in France and because I know French I know how amazing Stromae is. It makes me so happy to see another English speaker feel this passionate and in love with this man’s amazing music!
As a Belgian myself, it's the meaning and the story behind his lyrics that got me into his music. It's incredible. Some compare him to the present day Jacques Brel, a well known Belgian singer from the past. Very poetic lyrics full of meaning and very theatrical performances. Loved your reaction to both of his songs! :)
I think his music comes from his heart, his life and his experiences. Sure we missed him but he struggled with burnout and I am thankful he came with this song to remind the world of some values. I hope to hear his genius when he is ready to share with us his soul!
Great reaction! You definitely got the meaning even without understanding French. The rhythm seems to be something like a cumbia or huayño which are part of Latin-American traditional music.
love the way you feel and understand and try to make sense of it BRAVO ! big hello from Belgium 😜 And admit it no matter how hard you try you just can't help to move to his sound 😝
In all the reactions that I've seen until now, you're the first one and the only one who have got the message right!!! Great!! Keep it going!! 👏🏼👍🏼 by the way, the guitar kind of sound of the beginning and that is the base of this song is from Peru which happens to be the country from which lots of the immigrants in Europe come from, there are a lot of peruvians going to work there and having those kind of jobs but also all the different origins of the dancers in the video.
ayee thank you so much!! i try my best to digest all the meaning i can from songs and Stromae seems to be an artist who loves deeper meanings, which i love!! but again i really appreciate the feedback, it means a lot!! much love!!

Hallo, stromae will release his new LP March/April 2022. a summer tour of five concerts has already been announced (Brussels/Paris). Grts from Belgium.
You have to listen QUAND C' EST (meaning cancer) from Stromae. The clip is incredible. It talks about cancer because his mother had one. Very proud to live in Belgium :-) Hy from Bussels!
Quand C’est is absolutely brilliant. My Mum died of it and I can’t express how this song and his amazing performance of it in his live concerts manages to capture my feelings. But equally as much as I hate cancer I love his song. Genius!

Hi, I am new here. U are so sweet. And I love your reaction about Stromae. He is one of the best in europe. This song just came out on he s new album. I loved he s first album and second. Much love from Morocco
Great artist from Belgium carmen he talk about Facebook and Twitter who stop people from connection with reality. He is so interesting in his texts for song.
The groove/beat that you're referring to is what we usually call being in "the pocket" .... what is amazing is if you could hear the click track it would sync up perfectly, so the time reference aka the tempo are perfectly align... it's in the little silent gap in between each click...that is where the groove or the pocket is....
The message is so deep and sad, but the beat is so catchy, you had a smile on your face all the way! And at the same time you were really moved! That's the Stromae effect! His new video for L'enfer is out. Have you seen "alors on danse" or "ta fête"? They're good too. There's a funny version of "alors on danse" with a famous French comedian called Jamel, it's worth watching!
i love how Stromae does that with his music! and i haven't yet seen either, Alors on danse or ta fete, but more Stromae Reactions coming as soon as i can!!
Bro thanks for this video, please check his last album Racine Carrée and the main titles: formidable, tous les mêmes, quand c'est, Carmen, ave cesaria and Ta Fête... You'll see😉
Santé is what you say in French when you toast to someone, like Cheers. It also means "health", so "to your health". I wonder if he also means we should toast to people who don't have "health". Check out his song "Formidable", filmed in Brussels when he pretended to be drunk. Many other Belgian musicians for you to check out, for example Arsenal with the song "Estupendo" and many more. You may like the beat, like you enjoyed this one. Triggerfinger with a cover of "I follow rivers". Daan with "Swedish Designer Drugs" or the instrumental "Housewife".
Please go watch his live concert from Montreal. It’s on RUclips and it’s seriously brilliant. It now has subtitles, but they only give you an idea. His lyrics are deep and have more than one meaning. Wait till you see his performances! I guarantee you’ll love his show.

Hi, dunno if anyone else in the comment section pointed this out already, but the rythm is a cumbia (I had suspected that earlier, but I'm no musician and didn't want to make myself look stupid on the internet, lol). Im sorry thats how you feel, but when a Reaction actually has value to it, and helps others understand music better, and where the artist is coming from, i feel you're 100% wrong, but some will never understand that, and that's ok, but when there are reactors that just play the song, and don't talk about it, just bop there head, i agree, they be scamming the artist and there community!!
@@its_casza3342 Reaction videos work on confirmation bias.... the song is already liked/loved by the audience.... they are attracted by the song title and the artist's name...the reactors name is very rarely in the video tag... The 'reactor' in search of 'likes' and 'subscriptions' will play to the viewers by complimenting and confirming their 'good taste'. You don't get a 'like' if you tell your viewer he's wrong and the song he loves is crap!! So they smile, inhale some magic smoke and proceed to explain the meanings of the paroles from a language they don't understand!

English lyrics
Rosa, Rosa, when we make a mess, you clean it up
And you, Albert, when we toast, you collect the glasses
Céline, you have a hard time at the coat check
Arlette, stop, you spend the party in the toilets
So how about we celebrate those who don’t celebrate
For once, I’d like to raisе my glass to those who don’t have one
To thosе who don’t have one
What about good manners?
Why would I pretend?
Anyway, she gets paid for it
Are you my mother?
I’ll be back in an hour, better be clean
Clean enough that we can eat on the floor
I’ve been waiting for three hours
Honestly, do they make it themselves or what?
Luckily it’s just two glasses
Call your manager and hurry up
Your career could end just like this
Yes, let’s celebrate those who don’t celebrate
Once again, I’d like to raise my glass to those who don’t have one
To those who don’t have one
To those who don’t have one
Rub it, rub it, better not to rub against it, rub if you don’t know me
Brush it, brush it, you can always brush it off, brush it off if you don’t respect me
Yes, let’s celebrate those who don’t celebrate
Once again, I’d like to raise my glass to those who don’t have one
To those who don’t have one
Airline pilot or nurse, truck driver or flight attendant
Baker or fisherman, a drink to the champions of the worst schedules
To young parents rocked by tears, to professional insomniacs
And all those who suffer from heartache, who don’t feel like celebrating
Who don’t feel like celebrating

I subscribed for this reason. You responded to comments made by viewers on a previous reactionvideo, so you're interested in what your followers think. thank you for that and greetings from Belgium.
ayee i appreciate that!! i do always take in account every comment that comes in!! a lot of them are very helpful and help me understand more background information!! but again thank you for noticing!! much love!!

Stromae isn’t from France, he is Belgian!
This song is so true sadly....
Hi, dunno if anyone else in the comment section pointed this out already, but the rythm is a cumbia (I had suspected that earlier, but I'm no musician and didn't want to make myself look stupid on the internet, lol).
Anyway, this video disects the rythm in the beginning, thought it might interest you:

Mix cumbia colombiana and saudade from Cabo Verde
It's the cumbia beat (the Bolivian one ;))! check out Adam Neely's in depth video on that beat in Santé: ruclips.net/video/CAzl6xLe4as/видео.html

Leaching money from the success of others.... “reaction videos”
You stop way to much to say the same thing over and over, unwatchable.
Then Don't Watch 🤣
5:44 This is the rhythm of the CUMBIA dance. Stromae studied the folklore of Bolivia for a reason. Alternatively, listen to this: ruclips.net/video/q3MURq_p_UE/видео.html. Here you can enjoy these rhythms in full. At the twentieth second, this rhythm completely enslaves the brain)) Stromae, as always, managed to catch the most "delicious". Talent.
Sorry for my English, I am writing with a translator.
ayee dont worry, i appreciate you commenting and going the extra step of using a translator! it means a lot!! so i appreciate that!! Im gonna have to check out that link!!
@@its_casza3342 Thanks for your understanding and really sincere responses!
