Will Smith, Killer Croc, and Pris from the original Blade Runner team up to battle fairies in this bizarre Netflix film from the director of Suicide Squad. For every genuinely cool moment, there's an awful one to snap you back to reality. I don't feel better or worse for having watched it. To be honest, I don't feel anything at all.
Miles Bonsignore is back for this track, but we needed a little more support to make it through Bright... so he brought along his partner in crime Brandon Rafalson (Danger Friends, Satan's Old Apartment)!

Ohhhh, so Bright isn't an allegory for race relations in America, it's an allegory for Zootopia. I get it now.
It’s actually not allegory for either. It isn’t about police treatment of African Americans or poor folks, it’s a semi sarcastic fun representation of fantasy tropes including authority and its relationship with submissed groups. Just as orcs in Tolkien’s world can be observed as individuals corrupted by the industrial era...

Fact: Beagles Are Best This movie would’ve been super helped if they didn’t make orcs dress up like ganstas. The costume design put on surface-level allegory that really doesn’t work in the movie’s favor.

I think that's fine. I think it's in character for Jakoby, he is really passionate about being a cop, but clearly very out of his depth, so I can see him calling his partner "partner", because he thinks that's the proper way to refer to your cop partner.

Sad that they didn't have a screen writer for the movie, and the world building was terrible, this movie could've been something:(
World building is typically terrible in movies. And the movie was quite good it’s a combination of merging fantasy with modern societal aspects, sarcasm, and using this to be both funny and fun.
@@factbeaglesarebest That's not exactly true. Every single film with sci-fi or fantasy elements and a modicum of success has solid world-building; it's an essential part of the process. Examples are Children of Men, any Guillermo Del Toro film, Kingsman, Jon Wick, Zootopia, Treasure Planet, District 9, the first Pirates of the Caribbean.
World-building can't be written off, especially in any urban fantasy setting which is contending with similar stories like Artemis Fowl, Shadowrun, and Hellboy - which are all extremely well crafted. Bright just relied too much on fantasy cameos rather than actual fantasy.
It's an okay popcorn flick, but it's more of an Eragon than a Lord of the Rings.

This is one of those unfortunate properties that has an absolutely amazing concept, but should be a series rather than a film
This absolutely makes more sense as a miniseries concept. Flesh out the characters more before big, climactic moments, explain the world better, allow for character dynamics to be more defined, etc. I'm not a fan of Ayer's films, but I would've had a lot more confidence in this if it were presented as a show.

I am so sad with how poorly this movie was executed. The idea is incredible! I wanted to love this movie! But it lacked any real direction, it didn’t know what it wanted to be because it wanted to be too much at the same time.
I really want the sequel to have more of the Magic Force elf guy. He was awesome in this film, but he didn't have too much of a part. Also, more centaur cops please!

TitaNetwork i guess it kinda depends what you class as urban fantasy. if you just choose the bright like _urban_ urban kinda stuff it’s admittedly lower but really the definition is just ‘fantasy world and real word intersect’ so stuff like twilight and like urban horror fantasy count too

Pretty Much It I'm with you on the mixed feelings. The fact that they have some fairly new people in main character roles is a little concerning .The changes to some characters are strange, but I'm not surprise with how things are now a days. They're mashing the first two books together to make one film so the character development and story will suffer too probably.

Everyone hates this movie but I don’t really mind it. On paper this idea is crazy and yet it kinda worked which on its own is pretty impressive.
Yeah it wasn't bad, and there will be a sequel so maybe they have a better idea of what worked/didn't work to make the next one better.
It really isn't that crazy an idea. Urban fantasy has always been around but it's very uncommon that something dives fully into the tropes. Even Bright didn't dive in as much as it should've. Just take a look at the Shadowrun series if you want a prime example of good urban fantasy that does this.
On paper it's extremely generic and boring. Nothing crazy or unique about this plot at all.
I don’t think everyone hates it, it’s just if you ever try to defend why you like it people will come down on you harder then a meteor into a planet
This movie was amazing. I don't care what people think because if you didn't like this movie your not me. I mean im not saying its some masterpiece but damn is it fun to watch. I only wish they would have gone further with it, but its a perfect first movie in a second string trilogy. I enjoyed this more than the better half of the marvel cinematic universe. I actually have to think to find movies that i liked more.
Infinity Wars i did enjoy a lot, Thor 3 too. I still might choose this over them if i had to watch a movie i had seen though.
The flaws honestly don't matter because it made me happy and thats enough for a movie to be good in my book. Your book can of course say something else. I can only speak for my book.
I would recommend this as something they might enjoy but i wouldn't be upset if they didn't. Thats the kind of movie this is. I mean i love Sky High too but i understand people not liking it and i can even understand why.
