  • This is a video Timelapse of my DIY corrugated metal roof replacement. As an artist, educator, and DIYer this is the kind of project I love doing especially when I can save money!
In this video, I share how I replaced old weather-decayed polycarbonate plastic roof panels that had deteriorated over the years. With a bid for the work that seemed too high, I decided to DIY the roof replacement myself. As a photographer for many years, I have become pretty handy with power tools and I have gotten used to working from a ladder so I did the research and came up with my plan of action.
I share the details on how I used 8-foot corrugated metal panels as well as some joist tape, double-sided butyl tape, pressure-treated 2x4s, roofing screws, silicone, and a few other items to replace the roof panels myself.
I'm not a contractor I have no professional knowledge so I resorted to RUclips videos to learn the best method of doing the work. I’ve watched my dad build every house we lived in growing up and I have worked on construction sites from time to time so I felt confident I could do this myself.
I share my process including how I screwed the panels down, the screw lines I choose, and the challenges I faced.
My deck is about 15 feet off the ground and the covered area is around 8 feet so I was pretty high up. My cost for this repair was around $280.00 as opposed to $1800.00 which a contractor estimated they would charge.
Let me know what you think. I'm sure any contractor or professional will have a lot to say about my build but I'm confident this metal roof will stand the testament of time over the next several years.
