2012 Dodge Charger SXT 0-60 MPH Performance Test

- ( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2012 Dodge Charger SXT has an all new 8-speed transmission. Gone is last's year 5-speed replaced by a more fuel efficient 8-speed that gets 19 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway. But of course the question that we wanted to find out is how fast will the new 8-speed 3.7 liter will go from 0-60 MPH....at sea level.

I noticed one thing, he is in sport shift mode, but he doesn't shift, so the shifting is getting done automatically still. If you don't shift in sport mode, it really doesn't do much different than keeping it in automatic. The gear ratio just changes a little.
Well hell the car started rolling before he even took off. Obviously a bad time
Ok guys, 31 MPG for such a big heavy car is awesome. As for 0-60 times that's the same as my 05 LS Impala. Thanks Roman you're a good man
People there are 2 versions of this v6 engine there's just the sxt and the sxt plus witch is rated at like 305 hp instead of the normal 295 or whatever that's why your seeing verying times
A42yearoldARAB 10hp is going to take a second off?
Lol the butthurt people who baught a v6 charger and lose races to a mazda 3
You guys should do a review is the AWD system in the snow with the Charger V6/V8.
sweet ride! can you guys test the refreshed 2012 Honda Pilot EX-L? I'll be interested what you guys think about it and how it stacks up to the competition.
Yeah, I seen that typo, I have some too. Again, I can't believe a 3.6L displacement gets these numbers today on a 4,000 lb car. Mine comes in at 3,891 with just me and a 5 gallon fill on the tank. Add a couple gallons and my 3 kids, and my wife, and I'm over that 4,000 lb mark. I will never compare this car to a Mustang or Camaro or any 2 door. So that narrows all of that down. I love how some folks come up beside us or tail me until they see 3 car seats and a fully loaded car at the light.
the fast lane cars 0-60 times always sucks ass and are 1-2 sec. slower than what's advertised and what other reviews get. Must be the test equipment that they're using.
It doesn't have actual notches for the D R P N. It just works on how hard you push it up or down so you can get N instead of D or R instead of P depending how hard you push
Wow.. A 2003 Corolla XRS will do 0-60 faster than that.. perhaps you had the E-brake on?
Beautiful!
I have a 2013 SE and my best time so far is 6.78 seconds stock
same here bud. I had a 2012 camaro that I lost in hurricane sandy, and now I've switched to the charger and I'm loving it. all the badassness of the camaro but with a decent back seat. also, if anyone is paying 24 for this than you're a sucker. I got the stx-plus for 28.
I have the 12 sxt and I deleted the resonators and welded straight pipes in place with a full chrome K&N chrome full induction Cold air system and I get 0-60 in 6.3 seconds and I'm at Sea level in Coastal south Carolina! He had it in sport mode but didn't shift it 😂
Question . If i get the 2012-2014 dodge charger sxt. Should i get it with the 5 speed or 8 speed auto transmission. ?
I am also thinking of getting the R/T. Haven't decided yet.
Bitemyshinny Metalass Definitely get the 8 speed. My mom's Charger has the 8 speed, and it is an all-around fantastic transmission. Don't even consider getting the 5 speed.
Zachary Martin welp the 5 speed is actually a good transmission i have it in my 2011 Dodge Durango with the hemi and it does great.
They are based in Boulder, CO which is about 6,000+/- feet above sea level. Everything is about 1-1.5 seconds slower up here...
I agree with everyone on here the 3.6 with the 8 speed does way less than 8 seconds, and the shifter is not a big deal everyone that's driven my car gets the hang of it pretty much immediately
roman, have u been affected by those colorado wildfires???
Typo in the description, it says 3.7 v6. Its supposed to be the 3.6 pentastar v6.
Do a video about a 2012 gmc accadia test and in dept tour video becouse I'm stuck between a dodge journey and 2012 accadia
can you do a comparison with the 2013 ford taurus and this
Greet review
plz do for FORD TAURUS SHO
Thanks...
What brought you folks to the Chicago area???
Same here, I got a 2008 Charger R/T and IMO I think they look wayyy better
Love the cheeseball music!
So this is what the original Buffalo in gta is based of of
The gearstick totally reminds me of the A8.
Is this one bass price
What about the 0-60-0 test?
The 2012 and 2013 SXT are the same. It was 2011 that had the 5 speed transmission
Agreed!
Whoever wants me to make a video doing 0-60 in mine just let me know.
Im 7 years late but make the video
@@keenanmintsa7196 this made me laugh
Why is the shifter a pain?
why is the 0-60 so off? other reviews have it down to 6.2 seconds and edmunds is calling it 6.5……..?
With an eight speed transmission? Why does it wait till 45 miles an hour shift in second. My four-speed, 1998 GMC jimmy with 170 hp did the same shit.
I would get one of these with a manual transmission. Too bad Dodge doesnt let u get the SRT-8 with a manual because that would absolutely be my dream car (well one of them)
So what? We do real world testing. Do you really think that most people can go from 0-60 MPH with a gallon of gasoline in the car, and a driver that weights 120 pounds with ideal tire inflation, on perfect track surface? Good luck with that.
with the 5speed how much 0 60??
In km...and not miles...0-100 is about 12sec.
I wish they sold this car over here in the UK. We get the Avenger and a couple of others but not the full list of Dodge cars...
Yeah, I have the 5 spd andit is coming in faster, but only because you train the ECU over time and drive in manual for it to do so. I hit 6.8 just sitting over 500 feet above sea level. I've git 7.0 at Pittsburgh raceways. I've changed out tires of the stock and got .4 seconds faster. You can't just get into a car not driven over and over on runs for pre setup. Still, who really thinks a Taurus SHO is cooler, yes a good car, but not really cooler. Wait till 2016 for the E-EVO frames and 2 doors
Their times are always at least a second slower than average!
Need the 392 SRT with 475HP in these because of the weight.
And what's really nice, a fully loaded RT with Track pac and a 5.7L hemi is cheaper than even a Challenger V6 on it's car insurance. I've tried on both quotes. A four door is more affordable and you can get a good bargain on top of that. Or, I can settle for Audi 8 or something, pay ridiculous prices and still get that cold shoulder from someone thinking I'm a yuppie. But I digress, I like all cars. I am a true car enthusiast all the way around.
No actually I would bet the 5 speed might be marginally faster but the 8 speed clearly gets better fuel economy and from what I gather, it shifts much smarter too -- doesn't feel like it's shifting to save gas!
"0-60 times are now at 6.6 seconds, which, is identical to that of the 2006 Charger R/T. In short, Hemi-like acceleration - V6 mileage and cost.
we were able to easily do 0-60 in 6.8 seconds in far from ideal conditions, without preloading the engine, manual shifting, or any other tricks, if you must know, by coming out of a parking area, over a road dirt, at a 30° angle from the main highway. At a drag strip, it should be easy to get to 6.6 seconds."
Whats the deal with being at Sea level?
Better performance from the air being more dense at sea levels
Those numbers are wrong.. I own a SXT+ 2012 myself and have had it tested(the correct way). The numbers hover around 6.3-6.7 in good conditions depending on if you're in sport mode, manual shifting etc.
wait what, is it suppose to be this slow?? even V6 camry mazda6 accord whatever can out run this car??
The reason your 5 speed is coming in faster is because the numbers this video is posting are flat out wrong. Multiple reputable sources have this same car hitting anywhere from 6.3-6.7. I have hit 6.5 myself at Englishtown, NJ. I own the same exact car here. The older generation R/T is actually slower than the new generation V6 with the 8speed.
300 HP nice
Waitaminute, waitaminute...So this guy's telling me that an almost 300 horsepower engine with an EIGHT speed transmission can't do better than right at 8 seconds to 60?? And doesn't get better than 31 on the highway?? My 1987 BMW clunker with a 167 horse six cylinder and 5 speed stick hits 60 in 8.5 and gets about 29 on the highway...not my figures either. Something is wrong, all these cars that are supposed to have so much more efficient technology are getting the same gas mileage as in the 80s
Most of them now do under 5l/100km - thats about 60MPG US. In every day Driving you get a bit less but not by much as long as you dont drive like on a racetrack ;)
The 2013 fixed everything wrong with this video. The new SXT gets 31mpg AND a 0-60 time of 6.4 secs. How is that possible!?!? To get faster and more fuel efficient?!? Maybe it's because Dodge is awesome.
8 speeds are only found in high class BMWs and Mercedes benz's. A 8-speed coming from dodge, known to have troubles, seems sketchy. Especially when it's under $30k
I'm above sea level in Colorado and mine goes 0-60 in the 6's. And that's not even in sport mode.
3.7?/???????????????????????
7.9sec? That indicates 20-inch tyres for this vehicle deprive the machine from passing power; in short, these tyres are too large in diameter for 3.6-litres unit's power and torque.
In fact, another specimen for V6-Charger(albeit lighter SE w/17-inch wheels) does 0-60mph in 6.2sec even on soaked surface!!
On top of that, even the 2006 Corolla Runx 1.8-litres 190bhp my brother owns posts 0-60mph in 7.4-7.5sec.
sea level!!!! i feel like the charger sxt can go faster
The UK is a bit different than the rest of Europe because of the dealership arrangement. UK gets select Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep vehicles. The rest of Europe gets Chryslers marketed as Lancias through Fiat dealers and also Jeep. They really have no plans to grow Dodge outside of North America. Jeep and Fiat will be the only truly worldwide brands for the group.
Theres alot of people getting mid 6s with these chargers. Something isn't right
it's because all the added technology in cars these days are killing gas
maybe, but its sexy and at the price i got mine, its got more than enough jam.
👍
kinda odd people think of these cars as muscle cars then isnt it
I believe it's more of a Family Saloon Muscle Car. Not a sport car. Challenger still, a muscle car, not a sport car. SRT Barracuda(not out yet) is a muscle car, BMW is a sport car, not a muscle car, may be the M5 but still a sport car, Audi a sport car, so forth and so forth. Just like a Honda Civic is not either, but can be a tuned car for sport. It's all semantics really. But sitting at a light, all heads will turn towards the Charger, but most ignore the BMW or Audi. Just saying.
You have not been able to buy a Lancia here in the UK for years after terrible rust problems and product recalls killed the brand here in the UK. The only Dodge's that have been sold here are horrid.
not bad, i guess, still wish it was a manual transmission but oh well
cool story bro, tell it again
weight. i bet you bmw isnt very safe nor is it very quiet and comfortable as the charger
in all reality it's a second shy than the all wheel drive rt ..rt does 6.4 sec.. his 0-60 is way off..
air pressure
I have a charger set 2012 3.5 8 speed and 7.93 seconds? pure bs, what did you do to your shit car. mine hits it faster than that
True! 7.93 sec it's to much time lol
+Gerardo Barberi definitely!
I could show a dozen videos, plus ones from my own car that show it is a lot quicker. Reviewers like y'all however, are in and out of so many cars, so often that I guess you really don't care about getting it right. Just don't misinform people if you are to lazy to do your reviews correctly.
P.S. The shifter is only as clumsy as the person using, but the could have put indents.
Mine does 6.0 with tune and intake only 😂
well we also got nice things like a bi-turbo 3.0 diesel with 313hp and mamoth torque in the audi a6 or something similar in all BMWs including the 3 series. they drink nothing, go like shit and even sound nice. but, and thats a big but, not only the top diesels are very expensive to buy in the first place, wich might be a reason you dont have them in the states.
It not AWD
it goes in 6.6 seconds
US does really use 0-60mph for testing to start with lol
dont worry ppl, mines do 6.4 I live in st. louis
Couldn't put it all in one comment but the way they are testing it is unbelievably inaccurate. That's like using a cell phone application and GPS to test 0-60 lol.. I hit 6.4 @ Englishtown, NJ on a track personally. The engine in this video does not even sound like it's at wide-open throttle.
soooooooo we all think that one 0-60 run tells you how fast a car is most 0-60 reviews do it more tham once and the fast time is what they use one run on a road that no one knows the conditions of make a believer out of all of you smh shame
This video is bullshit I have a 2014 charger 3.6 8 speed and it does 6.4 up here in Colorado stock buddy that's the reason I haven't got the srt cause this is fast and good on gas
6.4 isn't really fast,it's average for some cars, slow for most.and the mileage isn't worth the loss of power, you don't buy a charger for gas mileage lol
+Suck Mydick bro are you slow most cars don't have over 200hp
+TheRealBenjamin lemme guess you have the V6 charger or challenger..lol
Yeah now I know that its max speed is 141
lots of charger fan thought it will be 5.6 sec .. lol ..
Dude on here already broke into the 5s. You haters are gonna have a hard time with this car... I almost feel bad for some V8 cars.
watch?v=6JKqv83DUh4
hm, thats gross. here in europe you can have every major compact car (ford focus, vw golf, etc) with ~2.0l diesel engines of around 170 hp. they all will do 0-62mph in a little bit over 8 seconds, are probably nicer made inside, do 55mpg+ and being hatchbacks carry lots of stuff in the back. hm...okay suddendly it makes sense we do have them and not this dodge here ;)
My 230 hp 4000 pound BMW can do 0-60 mph in 6.7 seconds, tested with GPS.
@marklethanarkle
My Mazda skyactiv is that fast, but i get 43 mpg
this is a review is horrible. Its been reviewed by many other people and company's gettin low to mid 6's. and the shift isnt that bad just takes getting used to.
So you did ONE test?! How about 4 or 5 or even 10 tries. That was awful.
Mate that 8-speed to a 1.4ltr Turbo and you'll see some really good MPG numbers. Sorry, but this car is too heavy. And still no six speed with the V6? Really? Great engine, car is heavy, no six speed. PASS.
292 hp at the crank with out the engine installed so it’s only 245 hp actually
Challenger
That gear lever is copied from Audi A8
7.9 seconds ?? Blasphemy
US
This time is so bs. I have a stock 2010 sxt with a 3.5 and my best time is 6.3 seconds.
I know right! I was like: "wtf??"
+Thy Mother I have dual exhaust on mine now dropped my time from about 6.2-6.4 down to 6.0-6.3
built_7.3TurboIDI mine is not 8 seconds mine does it in like 6.5
Its not a race car 🤦♂️
I think my 96 Bonneville ssei was faster with its 240hp s/c 3.8... and weighed less. Hell... I think my 04 Malibu 4banger hamster-wheel engine is faster too! LOL
