I have to say, your remote controlled models of boats and ships are pretty cool. My favorites are your aircraft carrier and steam tugboat models you've made. And that got me thinking: what if you were to make a model of a fictional watercraft? One I had in mind is the Sea Train from an anime show called One Piece. They are shown in a part of the show known as the Water 7 Saga, and what they are is that they are steam trains that can run on water like a ship. They're pretty cool. In fact, there are two known sea trains in the saga, one called Puffing Tom and the other called Rocket Man. Imagine trying to make a remote controlled model of that. I'm sure that would be quite a challenge.
+Garrett LeSueur (TrainkidSP4449) Regarding fictional watercraft: We are about to embark on a R/C model build of the Seaquest, we will be be providing progress reports and video as we begin her construction in June, '16.
wow, you guys are good. I actually built my own USS Hank out of Legos, but I wasn't really impressed with it. I put it through my own little FRAM and converted it into the Iowa class battleship, USS Missouri. I even have my own Lego Nimitz class carrier, too.
Sorry, I would like to ask, could you actually make the uss hank's guns shoot bb or airsoft bullets like other airsoft shooting warships in other videos
Good news everyone! Our rocket boat rebuild is complete and the Hank has already enjoyed a very successful maiden voyage. Check out her sea trials here: ruclips.net/video/DYwZbeINHxo/видео.html
I really want to know how to make one of those but I don't know where to start What kind of wood is used for the hull and deck ? And what the heck is bondo putty ? HELP!?!!?!! ADVICE?!??!
Hayden, hull, deck and superstructure are all constructed from inexpensive plywood sheet of 1/8th or so thickness that you can find at Home Depot etc. Bondo is just a 2-part auto body filler which works well for forming curved areas and filling voids.
Although the question is not addressed to me i still feel like adding something: If the Wood is too stiff to bend, you can try softening it up with hot water. This melts the glue and lets the individual plies move against each other. Then clamp it into bent shape and let it cool and dry again. Then it should stay in shape. But give this method a try before on some scrap wood. And beward of cheap plywood, which may totally disintegrate when it Comes in contact with hot water. When gluing the planks to the frames, I usually use clamps to hold it in place until the glue sets. You can glue a strip of wood across the front end of the plank to keep the clamp at the very end from slipping off. This piece is later cut and sanded off.
Hello, I'm currently planning the conversion of two model kits to R/C. The one thing I haven't been able to figure out is the propeller shaft seals. So I just wanted to ask: How are the propeller shafts sealed to prevent water intrusion?
We figure out the volume of the part of the ship that is underwater, and compare that to the density of sea water, which is 64 Lbs./ cubic foot. There are 1728 cu. in. In a cu. ft. If we calculate the volume to be, say, 432 ci. in. which is one quarter of 1728, then our model should weigh one quarter of 64 Lbs., or 16 Lbs. Thanks for watching.
Me and a friend are building RC boats. I am planning to start with a guided missile destroyer (with facilities for a helicopter). I would like to know what a good motor/ esc/ battery combination would be. The vessel will not be very large.
For maneuverability and realism we chose to go with a twin-screw installation, although a single would have been enough for scale speeds. We used 'off the shelf' 12V motors, Hyperion 2s/7.4V 25C 5000mAh batteries, mtronics marine 15 esc's and a Tactic 4 ch radio. Good luck with your build and thanks for your interest. RN
What are potential ways to avoid propeller shaft leaks. This is quite a hot topic as the new British aircraft carrier has a leaky shaft. Also, I don`t have the facilities to turn universal joints. What would be a good way to overcome this? Thanks once again
The fit between the propeller shaft and its tube should be a close fit, and use a light oil. Generally in small models the shaft is only below the water's surface a few inches so there's not a lot of pressure at that shallow depth to encourage leaks, same goes for the rudder. If you can get the motor / shaft alignment straight or nearly so, silicone tubing can be used as a U-joint in some models with small drive motors.
Thank you for your assistance. There is just one thing I would like to sort out. In a book I was reading, it said you had to use washers to prevent the thrust of the motor being spent on the motor bearings. Is this still an issue?
Can you made a Video where you show how did you build the r/c signal. Im from Germany and I will build a us destruier with my friend two but I didn´t know how I made the r/c signal.
They're too high performance for this model, it goes faster than scale with these motors which are 1/3 the price. Also, motors and batteries stay cool under low loads. The Kitty Hawk's motors are rated for 32 v but we only run them on 12. Long run times at scale speeds.
Thanks, im making ORP "Błyskawica" But im having some problems with making the ribs and flooding compartments (i want everything on the inside and outside scale) I would also like to see you actually making the ship or atleast Plans of such Destroyer...just counting all the electronics. Thanks for you're videos...lately they Inspired me in making a Transparent (10 inch by 3) Submarine to record with a SJCam (SJ4000) Allthough the waters here in Poland have awfull visibility
+Joshua Feldhacker We're afraid 702's 'combat' days are past. Looking forward to maneuvering around with the new twin screw arrangement, and videoing same..
+Rapidnadion I understand, but for at least the AA guns for demo non-combat "live fire" rounds (ex. simulated or machanical moving , automated recoil of traditional WW2 era bofor guns.) Another wonderful made and entertaining video. Keep up the good work. ^_^
+Frank Igrain We considered that, Frank. We need to get this re-build finished first and out of the way so we can begin the next project. Maybe after that; we'd like to do a very small rc boat and a Motor Whaleboat could be a candidate.
Please do a how to for this amazing ships basic electrical work not the smoke features just how to make the basic setup and maybe how to work with the ballast.
+Tealuv Props Wiring diagrams / directions are usually furnished with electronic speed controls when you buy them; everything is usually pretty much 'plug and play'. We did a little customizing with the battery set up to get longer run time. Ballast is not too complicated, mostly trial and error. Keep it as low as possible and don't make it immovable, you may want to add or change equipment within the boat.
Great work, and a very good instructional video. My father fought on a Sumner class destroyer, USS Ault (DD698) during WWII.
Thanks Dave for watching. Both DD's built in the same yard.
Kearney Shipyard, NJ
The Formatting for this video is great. It looks really professional, and the Ship! Oh my god it's GORGEOUS!
+umad42 Thanks!
+Rapidnadion It's not finished yet, a lot of detail has been added. We think it will look realistic cruising around and docking.
You've got one of the best youtube channels by making models! Congratulations on 45 000 btw!
+JLH CREATIONS Many thanks!
rapidnadion, I just wanna say that I hope you reach the highest amount of subscribers possible! keep doing what you do best :)
Finally discovered Michael fisher.. My mornings are going to delightful now :)
great to have you back!
Cool to see you post more often after so many quiet months (and love the update).
Though you don't put much content out, I always look forward to it. I love the look of the new ship. Thanks for putting the time to make the video.
+Jelemy Thanks for hanging with us through the lean times! Sea trials video coming in the next few weeks.
Very nice work. Cant wait to see her in action.
I've never watched videos like these before, but this is really cool 👍
Michael fisher
.I'm ur fallower even if u r on space ships video ..best luck
Dam you guys put a lot of work in to this model
+Hamilton Hoover You bet. :)
Nice work, guys. I've always wanted to do what you are doing. Very good.
+The Awesome Tropical Germinator Thanks for watching, Awesome!
Thanks for the vid! I plan on snagging some of these techniques for my HMS Kent (54) build, its gonna be about 57".
I always wonder how you make the propellers
Again... really a nice Clip...very informative! Well done.... :-) Best wishes; Holger from Subwaterfilm
+Subwaterfilm Thanks very much!
You guys always make entertaining videos love it
really cool guys !!!!!!!!!!
This is amazing!!!
nice retro fit
I want to start building scratch models now!
amazing job!

+Ukzev Kiiitonen Thanks for watching!
+Rapidnadion How much would the USS Kitty Hawk replica and the USS Hank be worth?
USS Hank!!
My dad served on that ship. He was a gunner (5"/38) and a cook. ;o)
Good to know. What years did he serve on the 702?
This is amazing
wow, you guys are good. I actually built my own USS Hank out of Legos, but I wasn't really impressed with it. I put it through my own little FRAM and converted it into the Iowa class battleship, USS Missouri. I even have my own Lego Nimitz class carrier, too.
You should rename it USS Laffey aka the ship that would not die. Plus Laffey actually exists
very cool...
mrmobile and rapidnadion was not something i thought i would see in the same sentence
Hey Micheal..Miss u on pocketnow...
Same😭😭
Yes I've been waiting for a new vid, and I was about to give up hope
plz tell me how much they cost to make/cost they are so cool
would it be to much to ask you guys to do a small tutorial on how you made the AA guns?
MORE I SAY MAKE THIS CHANNEL BIG WEEKLY VIDS
Michael fisher!?!?
Yes
Sorry, I would like to ask, could you actually make the uss hank's guns shoot bb or airsoft bullets like other airsoft shooting warships in other videos

Good job I made a model The MV Elizabeth
how long does it take to make a video ?
Six to eight hours
Rapidnadion if don't make videos what do you do
if cann build e yamto with working turret you the best
amazing job!
how to you keep the motor connection hole from getting water inside?
Tilting shaft sometimes.
I really want to know how to make one of those but I don't know where to start

Rapidnadion Quick question before you put the putty on how did you bend the wood on the bow

Build the shaft / tube with close fitting brass hardware and coat with a light oil
Thanks a ton
Nice ship. The finished quality is a bit disappointing though. A bit of sandpaper would work wonders.
Rip rapidnadion, you will be missed.......
I have a question: how do you measure displacement of a ship?
We figure out the volume of the part of the ship that is underwater, and compare that to the density of sea water, which is 64 Lbs./ cubic foot. There are 1728 cu. in. In a cu. ft. If we calculate the volume to be, say, 432 ci. in. which is one quarter of 1728, then our model should weigh one quarter of 64 Lbs., or 16 Lbs. Thanks for watching.
👍
Could you show us how to make a gun for a model boat that's really simple?

I miss the rocket launcher already
Was this modeled and named after one particular destroyer?
Yes it was- USS Hank, DD 702. I spent most of my enlistment stationed aboard her, the "Hank Boat" as she came to be known.A good ship.
Imagine how hard it would be to make the USS Iowa.
But they could do it if they wanted to!
The Tropical Germinator yeah.
Can you made a Video where you show how did you build the r/c signal. Im from Germany and I will build a us destruier with my friend two but I didn´t know how I made the r/c signal.
We would say, find someone familiar with r/c installations in boats, or even electric powered airplanes to assist you. It is not a difficult process.
Did you build the ship?
I like it
did you use DC motors?
Me cannot choose proper motors for such boats
Yes, 12v dc motors running on 7.4v..
Why dont you use the hobby shop ones?
They're too high performance for this model, it goes faster than scale with these motors which are 1/3 the price. Also, motors and batteries stay cool under low loads. The Kitty Hawk's motors are rated for 32 v but we only run them on 12. Long run times at scale speeds.

god job!
Maybe you are restricted by the amount of controllers you have, but it would be cool if you could sail thr whole fleet at once!
+Everett Beals In fact, Everett, that's the plan for an upcoming video: the carrier, submarine and destroyer steaming in formation.
+Rapidnadion neat! I cant wait to see it!
how long do you have experience?
+Lol Plane Decades!
wow!
Can you make an other boat that launches miseals
yay!!!
can you give me the design of yourship?
i want do this ship
What are the name of the motors?
Luke, they've been spray painted so we don't have an answer, but they were probably less than $3 - $4- each.
Guys! Michael Fisher is here!
Is the narrator Michael Fisher from Pocketnow?
That is correct.
Rapidnadion Cool! Huge fan of your videos. You have a new subscriber!
Thanks Cameron!
How about you have the turrets fire Airsoft or pellets?
+Joshua Feldhacker We're afraid 702's 'combat' days are past. Looking forward to maneuvering around with the new twin screw arrangement, and videoing same..

+Tealuv Props Motors: inexpensive 6 - 12 vdc , Electronic Speed Controls: (2) Mtronics Viper Marine 15A, Batteries: (2) Hyperion 2S 7.4V 25C 5000 mAh LiPo.
+Rapidnadion thank you
It could use a little more sanding work.
awesome i wanna build a micro kitty hawk
Good idea. How big?
maybe 5 or 6 inches and 3 long and 3 inches wide
Just saying that would be next to impossible if you wanted to make RC
who is watching in 2017?
Your first reply is 1year later
Make a ship that can sink!
