  • ‪@TTravis1981‬ This one is for you Travis, I listened to your comments and do see your point, so I mowed half my yard with a dull crappy rusted blade and the other half with the blade I sharpened 2 weeks ago. Here are the results from both! I was surprised and not surprised at the same time! Hopefully this not perfect, but more controlled mow is more what I should have done the first time!

Helpful video. Thanks for doing the comparison. Each shared experience helps us all.
I know that wetter grass will fold down easier as I mow it. Wet grass will also tear. It's noticeable if you've used a weed wacker/string cutter on very tall grass where "sharpness" is constant. The top cuts cleaner.
Tips: It's easier to push down than to pull up to loosen a tight bolt (body weight vs muscle strength).
Tip: Blade rotation is in the direction to tighten the fastening bolt. You don't need to "torque" it.
Tip: Blade edges last longer if, after mowing they are cleaned and sprayed with a water repellent before storage. Silicone or fluid film work fine and will stop the bare metal of the sharp edge from rusting during storage. (Look at what happens in 2 days of humid weather to brake rotors not driven.)
Comment: areas of lawns with dandelions and broadleaf plants are calcium deficient (and may be magnesium deficient.) Fine limestone or calcium nitrate fertilizer will cure that and by making the soil less acidic, naturally reduce the dandelions over time.
