"We had created monsters we couldn't control. We drugged them, tortured them, eviscerated them... We brutalized their minds... but it did not work. Until they came. And it was not their force of will - not their Void devilry - not their alien darkness... it was something else. It was that somehow, from within the derelict-horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... And take away its pain."
For a little context: The Sacrifice is the name of the story part this plays in. Smiles From Juran was the community name for the track, which became accepted by the devs of Warframe as an alternate title. The song plays during a sequence where a father is mourning his son. It's played on a stringed instrument that's supposed to be an in-universe instrument, one the father used to play to his son.
'Smiles From Juran' was not the the community name for the track, it's the name of an actual in lore song that Umbra used to sing to his children when he was still human. The community name for the track is "To take it's pain away". Also for some reason Teshin also knows this song and Hums it in his cave sometimes, so it seems to be a song that means a lot to Dax solders.
I think the real life equivalent that the shawzin is based off is the Shamisen or Koto, in fact a lot of the instruments used for the music in warframe has been asian instruments.
If you ever want to check Warframes music out again I would HIGHLY recommend "This Is What You Are", one of the best pieces of videogame music ever made. There are also 3 songs with lyrics from the game, "We All Lift Together", "Sleeping in the Cold Below" and "For Narmer". Especially "We All Lift Together" in combination with its cutscene is an absolute banger.
"We use this memory. It fuels our wrath." "We accept this memory, and move beyond its reach." "We return this memory to the Void and find peace in our emptiness."
i love how, even without context, he got most of the gist of the scene. of course its not a 1-1, but its incredible how what he said describe the scene so well.
You are comforting a grieving father with your power to transmit mental bonds, and when you're ready to decide what to do with this memory you shared, it's time for mutual vengeance against the man who turned you both into weapons.
It's a song about a character with a very sad story, who was wronged just for doing his duty, the song plays in the moment that the player character is trying to help said character to find peace among it's rage and sadness through comfort and reflection.
This is definitely my favorite OST from Warframe, the emotional weight it carries, even if you don't know the story, is incredibly well conveyed, and if you do it just goes that much further. You hit the nail on the head with your understanding of it though, this scene was very dark and heavy, but with a positive twist at the end. Solid choice, hope to see more Warframe music, there's a ton of really good picks Also the stringed instrument that plays by itself is, in game; the Shawzin. You can record your own music on it in game and people do some crazy stuff with it, lotta fun.
For transparency I work at Mojang. With minecraft live around the corner, aka Sunday I'd love if you had time and wanted to, have a listen to A familiar room. It's probably my favorite new minecraft track :)
I recommend checking out some of the tracks from Nier: Automata. That game arguably has some of the best soundtracks in video game history and suits the theme of the game very well, especially in the downtime sections.

seconded - great tracks.
Let's not forget "We All Lift Together" from the Fortuna Expansion!~ 😉

This game is a masterpiece.

One of the best story quests ever in Warframe!~ 😄
This was the song Umbra played for his son. Now, it's a requiem for his son.

For all Warframe's flaws, the music is so fucking GOOD
The music and art team always deliver
Absolutely love this game and its music is awesome. Hope to see more your reactions on its OST in the future!
Wow I love this ost thank you for reacting 🎉❤
Kinda reminds me of old Halo 3 main music tracks, the orchestral bits I mean.

Not a bad pick, but I would've picked "This is what you are" if I had to pick a song from Warframe.
I'm still waiting for the other Ori and the blind forest soundtracks :)
Would recommend also reacting to Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty's new dlc soundtrack and songs if you are interested! ❤Loved the Tracks by Dawid Podsiadło
Ooo warframe
