That first wahoo the creator tried really hard to modify made me realise that no matter how much you try and force it you just can't make Mario horror. Like we're talking about a fat Italian man who goes bing bing wahoo here.
To be fair, it's not like you can't make creepy stuff with Mario, like in Luigi's Mansion. Also, Epic Mickey took a cute Disney cartoon character and made things creepy (and the concept art was even creepier but was still well-received). Really, the issue is that a lot of creepypastas try way too hard and do the whole "HELLO BILLY REMEMBER ME?? I KILLED YOUR GRANDAD WITH MY HYPER-REALISTIC EYES!!" thing and it just turns out to be Birdo or something.
I feel like there are two video game creepypastas that work: Either it is the same game with something tweaked, or (like Coronation Day) it's something like a horror puzzle you have to piece together.
This could've worked if it was like some unsettling romhack with the off-key music and the darkened graphics and "Mario" chasing you didn't look like that. That and the whole "HEHE REMEMBER ME LUCAS YOU CAN'T HIDE FOREVER HEHE" schtick that I'm convinced only worked with NES Godzilla game.
@@DarkOverlord96 Yeah, to agree with you, there are many aspects of the game that immediately take you out of the experience's focus - The stupid Lucas plot, the fact that MX simply goes "Hey champ, go back to the beginning of the level" with no other motive to run, MX's odd voice clips that sound funny instead of scary, the lack of overall subtlety in execution - it's all pretty sloppy. I know it's the draw of creepypastas, but the horror tends to work when it's sneaky and subversive, not literally screaming in your face. That's why Coronation Day will always be one of my favorite horror fangames - it's ridiculously creepy and unnerving in everything from presentation to music but doesn't feel a need to shove anything in your face. What makes it so scary is the fact that you don't know what the hell truly happened and can only make guesses.

No obnoxious edits, especially audio-wise (nothing ear-destroyingly loud, thank you for that), and highlights his madness during Mario 85 perfectly. The "Mario 1, Mario 2 [...] Mario 10, Mario game" visual edits was my favorite part! The visual callbacks underscoring his lyrics really brings in the suffering.
The "See You Next Time" I bet Vinny even broke more on his mind as I feel he gonna need to revisit this game when hopefully is done. His mind going to be mayhem.
I used to think that the freakout over MX escaping the pit and the subsequent zombie and Dolancycle noises was my favorite part, but the Meatwad voice impression dethroned it.
Honestly its pretty funny to have at least 3 video highlights of this particular stream, let alone *this* particular game. May Vinny's spiral of madness be forever preserved.
I love how much this feels like an older vinesauce video. The newer ones are way too zoomer and i despite the adult swim ripoff. This feels so refreshing, please make more!
