To be fair, the code for this game has been completely reverse engineered. At that point it becomes much easier to modify than just doing a rom hack like most games. Not saying it wasn't easy or that it isn't impressive, obviously. It's awesome!
Now, the next step is just making the enemies more aggressive. Imagine Bowser making charging you his go-to tactic, steadily spraying a whole-ass lungful of fire whenever he does XD Or you know that "gliding flame" attack? Imagine he makes about 10 of those flames each time he does that attack...
I just almost 120'd it in a few hours. My fave shotgun interactions are below 1) Chain chomp 2) baby penguin 3) Cave monster (has ben updated since this video) 4) Cursed Visitor mirrors 5) Tick Tock clock (The entire level is basically interactable with the shotgun) 6) Shooting the tick tock clock (before entering) 7) Shooting Toads to unlock the star
One of the biggest perks of Super Mario 64 being fully decompiled back into it's C source code is that we can make mods like this way easier than if we had to mess with raw assembly code instead.
This mod looks like one of those fake photoshop video you'd find on youtube in the 2000s with a title like "Super Mario 64 Secret Gun Powerup!!!!!" That has powerpoint transitions and a bitcrushed limp bizkit or linkin park song playing in the background.
This is the most Newgrounds idea for a mod (and Mario shooting Peach mid-intro didn't help dissuade that), but in execution it actually feels rather light and cartoony. I just love the way attacked characters may shake or fall over or flatten against the floor or shoot into the stratosphere or casually initiate a conversation or bounce off the walls like they got slapped or...
I love how the shotgun has different texturing and lighting from what you normally see in the game, reminds you throughout the game how much a foreign object it is.

This has got to be the most satisfying Mario 64 mod that has ever been created. Seeing all these enemies we all absolutely HATED as kids being obliterated by a shotgun to the face has got to be one of the greatest things ever.
YOU MUST FIGHT WITH HONOR sounds like a kick ash title for another Vargskelethor M.U.G.E.N. featuring a whole new roster of revamped characters and new faces in the battle arena.
