Of the three C&C universes, I grew up the closest with Generals. It's still surreal that a video of your quality discussing its lore is even available. You have my gratitude.
I like the Tiberium universe most
...people like Generals for the lore? It took 99% of it from a TV show back in the post-9/11 era called The News, right down to Americans invading Iraq. Hardly the height of originality. Call of Duty: RTS Edition.
@@Snufflegrunt No one likes generals for its lore, the gameplay is superb, characters are funny, the voice lines hilarious and the memes top shelf. the unit designs are magnificent the campaigns pretty fun and the mods are isanely high quality and it has way way more mods than Tib wars.
@@marlo8850 You just said that on a video about Generals “lore”. Generals felt like capitulation to the Blizzard/Ensemble way of doing things. I felt totally betrayed. Where is my MCV? Where is my sidebar? I haven’t played the expansion, but the original had no characters unless you count units with three or four low-brow/possibly kinda racist voice lines. The campaigns were like 7 missions long and it was obviously multiplayer-focused. The only good things I can really say is that the graphics and animations were great for the time, and the music was mostly on point.
They slapped the C&C name on it to make it sell. I personally don’t count it, just like I don’t count C&C4.

@@GreenBlueWalkthrough I think he just it for images mostly, since alot of the generals happens in the background and doesn't get presented to the player.
I like to think that the Generals timeline is the "pure" timeline, when Einstein used his Paradox Device, he went into an alternate timeline to erase the madman, resulting in the Red Alert timeline that can branch off into Tiberium. Generals takes place in the timeline that Einstein returned to after erasing his target.
When Einstein returned, his watch is going crazy. Time was changing around his lab. WW2 would have had to have happened for the US to be the superpower that it’s depicted as, especially if it cares about Europe.
I find Generals has it's story in reality
it would work if we assume that the generals timeline is the original timeline, from which einstein started his travel to the past, but in which hitler still rose to power, einsteins travel to the past only created the red alert timeline as an alternate reality and him returning to the generals timeline caused him to be somewhat temporal unstable. I honestly assume that the Red alert Einstein might not be the same one that travelled to the past cause besides the original cutscene its never mentioned again that he travelled to the past and in actuallity the RA einstein is STILL working on his Chronosphere device, which he would have needed to travel to the past. UNLESS we assume his time machine provided the foundational work for the Chronosphere, but i think not so, cause the chronosphere is lethal to organic entities.
but this is all just wild speculation, no need to take it serious

Also, the Paradox Device is not the Chronosphere, the device the original Einstein used displaced him both chronologically and spatially while the Chronosphere is only capable of spatial displacement, The later Time Machine used to prevent the Psychic Dominator Disaster was the opposite, a chronological shift but remaining in the same location.
Finally, Gregor's Time Machine is almost the exact same as the Paradox Device that Einstein Prime had used, a temporary displacement in time and location and an interaction will cause entities to be erased but this one actually returns the travelers to the alternate timeline, in this case being the slow-grind invasion of Allied Europe with an uncontested Japan able to build their Imperial Army in secret.

1. the one he leaves which becomes generals
2. The one he killed hitler which becomes RA
3. The one he returned to be met is previous self which cause the tib meteor to be attracted to earth which becomes Tiberium
2a in red alert 2 they used a new time machine but this one was unstable and thus unable to truly go to a new universe and went in between thus causing the timelines to merge.
2b red alert 3 might also have cause a 3 way split but I think they were able to make it go back to the future of this new timeline thus it could only be 2.
Hearing that intro at the end gave the chills.

A few things: First, apologies if I ended up mispronouncing some of the names of the generals, places or cities mentioned in the video. Even after looking up the correct pronunciations, a few of them were still difficult for me to pronounce. Second, ignore the on screen 7:20 timestamp, as that next section actually starts at 8:05. Third, the primary focus of the C&C lore videos will still be within the Tiberium timeline/universe, but the plan moving forward will be to upload a Generals related video in between some of the Tiberium ones. And lastly, I'll be doing a Q&A video in celebration of the channel reaching 10k subscribers. Additional correction: the Chinese military is referred to in both real life and in game as the People's Liberation Army, and not the Red Army.
I would like to say that i am genuenly exited for you to slowly enter the Generals universe. Being born a bit later, i was introduced more to the later games of the genre plus my youthfull mind considering the earlier games "shitty". Red alert 3 and Generals being my favorite childhood games and Tiberium Wars slightly after. I find the C&C universe in general fascinating and again i am very exited for all your content and also the possible Generals universe lores. I understand your desire to remain in the Tiberium universe, and i completely support your decision there, so keep going and i'll follow your work.

@@cdcdrr A handful of the Chinese units (the Battlemaster and Red Guard) say “For the Red Army!” when given orders, so it’s a bit forgivable for the confusion.
Love how you try to make everything ingame logical and realistic, for example "they provide additional medical supplies that help heal infantry on the battlefield"
Instead of " THEY LITERALLY BECOME MINI WOLVERINES WHEN A HOSPITAL IS CAPTURED"
All three C&C games: Tiberium Saga, Red Alert and Generals are the best strategy games ever.
C&C are amazing but to me Homeworld is my first love when we talk about RTS.
The series could have continued if EA DIDNT EXIST!!!

Let's all remember that this backstory was written in like 2001... It sounds like you just did a summary of the IRL world news in 2021.
Well, the story was written before the events of 9/11/2001. Originally, the devs were kind of scared to release the game. Though they decided to do it. As it was relevant news and was not too farfetched. Plus it was fiction enough to not upset too many people.
@@Qardo And they were right, Generals is more of a parrel Universe they have GLA, not ISIS, China has risen to superpower status and the US is tired... Sure we don't have Comanches and lasers are only on ships for testing but they got the near future so close to what happened. It's unsettling to think no one in power thought the world would end up like this and do something to prevent it.

The other side of the political spectrum would have a field day with it while having a hissy fit over this game lol. I did love the story in Generals, but man the story was ahead of its time. It's almost scary to think that the story in Generals back then would be somewhat similar to our situation today.

The game was based on Desert Storm and rising tensions with WHOLE Middle East thanks to Saudi Arabia being both main US ally in the region and main sponsor of global terrorism. The game is still on topic because NOTHING HAD CHANGED. US is still a tool in SA backed sunni/shia conflict and it will probably still be topical in 2040... if there are still anybody left alive in Middle East by then:(

one of the main things I learned from C&C Generals is that the Black Market is a literal market with stalls selling illegal goods like weapons, organs, and rogue nukes.
Generals is getting more relevant as time goes by.

2 years later and oh boy you are right. Funny enough, when i played Generals, the first US mission literally happened weeks after in real life with US doing attack on middle east. It was such surreal experience when you played somehting that happened almost same way as you saw in game.
Is it the best PC game of all time?
I guess not.
Is it the best RTS game of all time?
Probably not.
Is it the best C&C game of all time?
Many would say no.
Is it my most favorite game ever despite all of its flaws and will I probably die of old age while playing a skirmish?

It was something I didn't notice at first and had to go back and watch it again. Cool idea.
Man I always loved the Generals intro, when I was a kid I always thought it was so badass. Seeing it at the end of your vid made me a little melancholy though - can you imagine EA or any other AAA company putting out an intro like that these days? (not to mention a game like Generals) It would be decried as "offensive, insensitive" and various other cancellation-related charges. There was a time when games companies weren't afraid to produce edgy, badass content, but those days are long gone and I lament them greatly.
And that's when it's already ridiculously censored, making the GLA generic terrorists without a cause or any specific ideology, even though they're obviously based on real-world radical Islamists
such an underrated gem of a C&C game... Different, but still highly enjoyable.
11:14 Correction, the planes that do the supply drop are C-130s, not AC-130s, an AC-130 would be an assault aircraft or gunship, basically the Spectre which is also in Generals.
C-130 Hercules meanwhile is purely a transport aircraft.

Weirdly putting the supply center a little further away makes it happen much more efficiently. There is some kind of timer that prevents any carrier from picking up and dropping off too quickly.

Yep, it has some. Not as much as the Tiberium or Red Alert games though, so their probably won't be as many videos in the Generals playlist.

The lore of Generals is kinda interesting, though unlike in Tiberium or Red Alert universe doesn't have as much personality due to the lack of characters.

I never forgive EA for cancelling Generals 2
I saw a lot of Videos of Generals 2 and the game didn't stand with the original one, it was very different rather very quick and underwhelming, it just didn't fit the way General 1 played out. This is why they even renamed the game before launching it but ending up cancelling the whole project.

The generals lore is basically IRL. It’s uncanny.
The devs must have seen the future, China butting heads with us for global influence, the US hesitant to get involved in another world/major war and GLA aka terrorist cells trying to stir the pot between the superpowers to make the Middle East their playground.

Well, the GLA has vast underground terrorist networks that almost seem to rebuild themselves. They use suicide bombers and low-tech rockets.
The USA, meanwhile, goes all in on bots and drones. Well, guess what?
And China goes into hacking, technology theft, and brutal suppressive tactics.
And it goes even deeper than that with China starting to invest more in nuclear energy now that coal is just out of control, and the USA starts to take particular pride that something is "Made in the US of A", and crudely made biological weapons are often seen used in the middle east, and you've got Chinese propaganda and just...
Seriously. This game, man. Wow.

This game has introduced RTS and C&C as a whole into my life and therefor will always have a special place in my heart. Even at 30fps xD
The game is capped at 30fps. It can’t go higher without a mod that came out a couple of years ago, or without running the game at 2x speed. Don’t make up framerates.
@@Snufflegrunt how am i making up frame rates if you just repeated exactly what i said. and tbh, didnt have internet growing up so i played the vanilla without the mod which ran at 30fps.

I saw that too! Unfortunately, I think the design team should've used a slightly darker blue because I've always had a hard time distinguishing where the progress was, in the game I mean.

I always suspected this took place after the red alert series but before the tiberium series. Kane most likely being the puppet master behind the GLA.

I've only played generals once and I always thought that Russia was in it. I never knew much of the factions in the game. So I'm looking forward to more of this. Keep up the great work.

I won't lie, I like the way you present this as a mission briefing. It gives me the same feeling you get when any character in a C&C cutscene looks directly at the camera and addresses you as "Commander."
After growing up with Red Alert (still astounded my parents let me play when i was ten lol), I later on decided to buy Generals for myself. Those two are the series I am most familiar with, so I am excited to watch this video.
This was my first C&C game that i played when i was a kid.

The game writers' ability to predict post-9/11 geopolitics has always amazed me. I probably put a good 1000 hours into this series since it first dropped, and Rise of the Reds kicks ass
Interestingly the game didn't have an official writer on the team. From what I've been able to look up, much of it was done by the Executive Producer. Game also had some uncanny timing, as it was released in February 2003, and the Iraq War began a month later in March.
@@Jethild Yes that is correct, Generals came out in 2003 and then Zero Hour a year later in 2004. I can almost guarantee that whoever did write the story was probably familiar with Brzezinski, especially The Grand Chessboard. Either way, growing up with Generals is why I studied geopolitics in higher education lol
Everything that happens in Generals was at least being talked about. It didn’t predict the future - it made the predictions of news reporters into a game.
@@Snufflegrunt Geopolitical forecasting is indeed a real field of science and has been for a very long time. I have a political science degree where I specialized in geopolitics, and I read many key works written decades/centuries before Generals was conceived that layout the foundations to imperialist hegemonic strategies that are still just as applicable. All I am saying is that whoever wrote the story for Generals had a background in this, and they made very accurate predictions for the global situation in the early 2000s.
This is compared to tired old storylines like in CoD: Modern Warfare/Ace Combat Assault Horizon/etc that still follow 1990s Hollywood narratives of Russia being a failed state where some radical terroristic faction carries out a coup with the intent to nuke the USA.

Wtf I was binge watching your CnC lore videos for no reason today and this one autoplayed, then I look at the description and saw it was released only 35 minutes ago.
can you do an episode on the General's Challenge mode in Zero Hour? I'm replaying it and keep wondering if there's an in universe explanation or even a fan explanation as to why the generals are all challenging each other (aside from Fai and Juhziz who don't get bases).
Probably international infighting post-war.
To put things into perspective, the USA generals might have become gung-ho due to budget cut scares and them being humiliated for the Zero Hour protocol, the Chinese generals created another Chinese warlords era kriffstorm, while the GLA are just doing the blame game for their backbreaking defeat on Europe, differing beliefs and mindset not helping things.

Why does it feel like the general whom the video is addressed to is not from any of the three factions in the base game but from a faction added by one of the mods for the game? Like Rise of the reds ECA or Russia

Man this game was wonderful!! some navy combat, battleships, boats, submarines, navy bases and it would have been perfect!! I cant believe that they didnt capitalized on a great game such as this! I want nothing more than to see a Generals 2 game and this series revived!
