This game has been in the back of my mind since I was a kid and I am so glad I finally able to find it. This might be one of the first video games I ever played.
Holy...I have been trying to figure out what this game brand was called for YEARS, and tonight while just talking about nostalgic things, I brought up that I remembered this frog telling me about Machu Picchu, and he’s like “Jumpstart”? I kicked him by accident getting up to grab my phone and found THIS! So excited, and am definitely going to be watching through this during quarantine 😂
For a PC game made in 1999 for second graders, the spritework in this is incredible. It's to the point where I could see this being an indie game released today.
I remember buying this game at Marshalls inside the Arizona Mills twenty one years ago in 1999 after starting the second grade and playing this game on my old computer..
I thought of something: the previous CJ game had him working for royalty and getting knighted at the end of the game, while the first one had him working a secret club above a school. Now this is quite a contrast of roles compared to the other mascots, especially since they pretty much hosted their games in schoolhouses (and if they hosted a game anywhere else, it was at home or in their town; or, in Frankie's case, the circus). So maybe before the 2nd Grade math game CJ found out that he was descended from nobility, but had to become a knight to get his inheritance. So he moved to Europe and got a job in a castle, ready to earn his knighthood. After doing just that he inherited Stately Frog Manor as well as his ancestors' past wealth, allowing him to afford going on more Indiana Jones-type adventures.
I remember playing this game with my brothers. The caves of Cumae was our favorite level. We'd constantly let CJ hit the bats and laugh at his exclamations of hurt. We were a little evil back then
Edison’s face when he said, « We can face any challenge! » while Sybil was explaining the word search puzzle is so freaking adorable! Edison is the best character in this game! I cannot handle his cuteness in The Caves of Cumae! ❤😅
Edison is absolutely adorable in this game especially in The Cave of Cumae scene! When he met Sybil the Cat Princess and fell in love with her, that was the cutest moment ever!! ❤ Jumpstart Reading For Second Graders is the best Jumpstart game that CJ and Edison starred in!
This version of CJ the Frog and Edison the Firefly in Jumpstart Reading for 2nd Graders are my favorite versions of them! They are a lot more cuter than their original counterparts in Jumpstart 2nd Grade in my opinion and I love the animation in this game! I love their voices! Even though this game is mostly for kids, the characters, CJ and Edison still hold a place in my heart as an adult! I am a kid at heart!
My favorite parts/levels are Frog Manor where CJ wears a fancy tuxedo, Ayer’s Rock where CJ and Edison meets Bingo the Dingo, and mostly, The Caves of Cumae where Edison falls in love with Sybil. He’s super cute in that level!! All of the characters are great! Edison is my most favorite character in this game! Sure, he can be grumpy at times, but he was smiling the whole time when he met Sybil in The Caves of Cumae! That was such a heartwarming moment!
Very good job fellows!! Congratulations. This game has been in the back of my mind since I was a kid and I am so glad I finally able to find it. This might be one of the first video games I ever played.
My brother played this game and the math one... no wonder why he got straight As all the time in school. He played these two games so much guess it helped him get smarter... :)
I remember playing this, and getting stuck on a certain puzzle (that I no longer remember details of) I was stuck for hours, if not days. Yet, I still remember it fondly.
Though this is one of my favorite Jumpstart games, there were two things that sucked about it (spoilers): -my favorite game out of the five is the Dig Site, but you don't gain any rubies if you complete it unlike the other 4 -We don't actually visit Ursulab... I was at least expecting a bonus game...
I hope McCloud decided to quit with the lock-puzzle after Dr. Lickstick kidnapped him. Obviously McCloud didn't realize that CJ isn't the only one who's good with words.
We first played it at home with my ex english Teacher friend . We did not know C.J. is his name . So we named him Mr John . And we did not know Dr Listick is his name . We named him Mr Pickles 😂
Oh my god. I'm irish and the irish version of the game did NOT have the awful stereotyped irish accent I'm actually shocked they have this 😂 Does anyone know where you can find the UK and Irish version of this game?
you have no idea i have searched this game everywhere not knowing the name i played this game 10-12 years back, the cd had a picture a girl shooting but didn't had the game's name, all i remembered it was a learning game and there was this frog in search for jewel.😂
If you stuck around the Tapir would eventually sing and that songs been in m,y head for eons. Thanks for uploading this, I remember playing this game a lot in the early 2000s

I wish they would put these games on Steam. Partly for us nostalgiacs, and partially because they were such great games for kids. 💗

There's a couple of websites where you can download old games like these from. It's myabandonware and oldgamesdownload

Hi
I remember buying this game at Marshalls inside the Arizona Mills twenty one years ago in 1999 after starting the second grade and playing this game on my old computer..
i remember the frog having a british accent but omg, i used to LOVE this and the math one
the Jump Start games have both British and American versions. You and I had the British version.
The British version is called jump ahead
OMG! Even the music at the beginning makes memories come back to life!
Ill be 28 this year and this brought me back .

Edison’s face when he said, « We can face any challenge! » while Sybil was explaining the word search puzzle is so freaking adorable! Edison is the best character in this game! I cannot handle his cuteness in The Caves of Cumae! ❤😅
This was worth coming home to at the end of a long school day

Vivid memories of playing and replaying this game for hours after breaking my foot as a little kid
When the frog drops, he's like "What was that?
Make's me wan't to cry. Classic old nostalgia.
Fun Fact: the name of the villian- Dr. Listick is actually the name of the executive producer.
This version of CJ the Frog and Edison the Firefly in Jumpstart Reading for 2nd Graders are my favorite versions of them! I loved this game a lot when I was 8. I'll never forget this game. Great for kids!
