Sir, how did Boyd and Foster came to the idea that the variation of load with depth was logarithmic. Did they derive it using some concept or did the judt assume it? Was there some kind of logic behind it? Please let me know
It is a semi-rational method for determining ESWL based on consideration of the vertical stress in an elastic space. It assumes that ESWL varies with the pavement thickness linearly on log-log scale. Incidently, this assumption has not been challanged so far.
What's a semi rational method? I don't find any proper definition of this method on google. Also, I can't find the Boyd and Foster's research paper regarding this method.
@@brajessingh184 Semi means Partly. You do not need to visit google for this word. semi-rational means employing a certian amount of reasoning but that cannot be explained fully. It is a mix of theory and practice (or intution).

If there is no traffic data, then why do you need ESAL? You assume traffic in terms of ESAL.
