Well, after knitting for about 7 years and having learned how to knit mostly through reading, watching videos, and a few in person classes I have discovered my picking up stitches techniques were not exactly the correct way to achieve the results I was looking for. Thank you for a well done and enlightening video.
What an absolutely *magnificent* tutorial! A perfect example of why Roxanne Richardson is my primary RUclips knitting professor. She gets deep down into what I think of as the "engineering" of this art,. It is hugely helpful to my learning and _understanding_ of the function of all the various holes and loops and bumps and stuff (I consider myself an advanced novice knitter so still have lots to learn). Now if you'll excuse me, I must go "pick up and knit" some collar stitches for the cabled-to-the-hilt sweater I've been devoting myself to for months.
Thank you for setting me on the straight! I was seeing the "pick-up and knit" as a two-step process, pick-up the yarn and then knit it. So showing the method of using a left needle put me straight, Thank you!!! You are definitely my go-to for doing things right.
Wow you are so great teacher! Clear, precise, and for people which English is not the main language it is very easy to follow and understand. Thanks a bunch for sharing your knowledge, God bless you!
I have knit for 60 years and have "guessed" at how many stitches to pick up 100's of times resulting in a lot of tearing out and doing again. Thank you you SO much for making it clear and simple!!
Thank you so much for this excellent tutorial!!! Picking up stitches has been the bane of my knitting life and I've always felt it didn't look quite right. This tutorial made the techniques so clear and I see what I've been doing wrong. I'm so grateful for this tutorial.
Your videos are great, love your technicality and how you cover many scenarios practically. Thank you! I don't know anyone who knits so you have been a treasured resource
After decades of knitting, I still need refreshers. I was about to try to pick up stitches from the bind-off rather than the last knitted stitch. Thank you for saving me from myself!
Was picking up stitches from a crochet edge to put a knitted ribbing on a crochet hat; stitches were big and big spaces between edge of hat and row of picked up stitches; used your knit on method-stitches are neat, uniform and no big holes or spaces between crochet edge and start of knit row! Ty.
Thank you! I'm working on a hooded cowl and needed to pick up 54 stitches along a slip stitch edge and your suggestion of adding a marker ever so often to help evenly pick up the correct number was VERY helpful!
great video, very clear descriptions and good detailed info, covering all my questions. Also fab tight shots to really see what you’re doing. thankyou, this was a big help! props to you 👍🏼
This was absolutely brilliant, very detailed. I have been knitting for many years and used to get my mum to pick up my stitches for me or avoid patterns with picking up in. Making a matinee set for my friend and have no one to pick up my stitches now so I needed to do it myself. My first attempts were untidy as I didn't really know what I was meant to do. Found this video and watched a couple of times and then had it playing at the same time and I have managed to get a neat line where I picked up the stitches with no holes. Thanks
Thank you so much. I have to pick up 176 stitches divided by 16. I have 11 extension totaling 32 stitches for each. I was so worried on how to pick up and knit correctly. Your tutorial video has been an immense help. Keep ‘em coming. God bless and keep you.
Thank you for sharing your tutorial, I found it by mistake but somehow it knew that I was up to that part in my knitting, seems like we are in tune. Brilliant job, as always. Take care.
Thank you so much Roxanne I have struggled with this for years mostly the ratio You have explained everything so concisely that I now feel confident to make more patterns which require these methods xx
This is so clear and helpful - I love that I can jump to the relevant section, and find myself returning to it again and again when I need to pick up sts. Thanks Roxanne!
Thank you Roxanne for your very informative video! I am a beginner in knitting and I appreciate all your content as it is absolutely valuable to me! I love you!
Appreciated your video lesson on picking up stitches. Have not done this in a few years and needed expert advise and review in order to assure a nice baby garment
Great Video Roxanne! Just what I needed to pick up stitches on a perpendicular edge for sleeves. Thank You so much for helping me to surprise myself again!
Brilliant love the way you have explained everything and you can see exactly what you are doing you come across lovely 😊 thankyou I've been so stressed out over a little bear jumper I'm knitting.xx
Thank you. I am partially-sighted and have a screen that enlarges things so | will be able to see the knitted edge and now I know what to look for when picking up stitches. I really appreciate this video.
Thank you for helping me thru this. Your videos and way of explaining things are very clear. It really helps me to see what you are doing when you use different color yarn like you did in this video. PS-I wish I could follow you around for a week and just pick your brain, or better yet, just download all your knowledge and skill to me! A girl can always dream
What a fantastic tutorial!!! I just found you! I needed this exact video! I'm a beginner knitter and am making a dog sweater and am stuck at the point of making the edging around the back end. This video taught me so much! i'm going to check out your other videos. I'm your new fan!!!
Thank you so much! Working on a long sweater coat and don't want to make a placket... I'm going to pick up the stitches all around the neck and down the front. I have bad arthritis in my thumb and it hurts too much to sew seams etc. Excellent video!!
Thanks I’m left handed but knit normally but just cannot get to grips when it says pick up an knit stitches for button bands or neck bands get in an awful mess but now I see where to actually push the needle through the work an just make a loop I think I will find it easier to use a crochet hook to pull through and transfer to needle hope you keep this on as, hav knitted a long time but have never been happy if had to pick up stitches and it’s never looked right , I will refer to you when need to pick up stitches thank you very much
Hi, I really liked your videos on picking up the stitches. I have a finished knitted brim for my hat and I want to pick up the stitches through the finished brim and continue knitting a hat using circular needles. Would you be able to show me how you pick up the stitches from a round, finished brim and knit a hat in around? Thanks, Aneta
Hello, I really hope that you're STILL making your videos. You just seem to explain things so thoroughly for us all. Thank you for doing that. If you don't already have one, and, if you're still making videos, would you please show us how to make a "pocket" on a pattern? I appreciate your time and advice. Thank you for sharing.
Isn’t she wonderful! I’m forever telling my friends that Roxanne has a video that can help.

Thanks - I’ve always used a crochet hook and came here to learn the “right way” thinking I was doing it wrong.
Excellent video. I like the way you zoom the work so the areas where you are picking up stitches are easy to see. You are a great teacher.

I did the same with my mom. Now she’s gone so I have to learn to do it myself too.
