Jay Leno has something like 200 cars & motorcycles in his collection. He has often said, he belongs to "the more money than sense club"
The same can be said about owning luxury watches.
    Welcome to the club Jess.

My only con in how sharp the bezel teeth are. Should I fingernail bush it down a bit?

I have two Rolex subs - a very old two-tone Bluesy and a black SS date from about 2000. Really love both, and I have worn the hell out of them. I also have an Omega SMP300 Chrono from around 1998 (I think). They have all been great watches. Recently, I got a new SMP300 with white dial. I love both brands, but Omega and Rolex are different beasts. Both are super reliable, I would say, with Omega maybe winning in that category. My Omega has never been serviced, although, about a year ago I opened it up and re-regulated it myself. It now keeps virtually perfect time.

Nice! I agree, I feel the comparison is fraught... I'll give it a go, but even now I can't see a clear "winner" as they are both so different.

Hi Jess, I've watched your Rolex journey from the beginning and loved the ups and downs in not been able to buy one from the AD. I purchased a Seamaster 300 whilst waiting for a Submariner, I loved the watch but wasn't in love with it. I purchased a Submariner know exactly how you feel. It gives you a feeling that's only those who have been through this journey can understand. I too was torn between the Submariner or the Submariner Date. After discussing the option with friends i decided the date version would suit my day to day needs as I'm not a diver. I'm so glad you finally got the Rolex you wanted and look forward to your Omega vs Rolex comparison. By the way, I sold my Seamaster at a slight loss to fund the purchase of the Rolex.

You need to see a high beat (not a spring drive).
Thinking a Zenith Chronomaster Sport next 😉
High beat and 10th of a second 😈

Congratulations!!! I wouldn't dive with a Submariner. When I dive I do it with a Dive computer on my right wrist and a Grand Seiko diver on my left that is actually useful for diving. The GS clasp allows for adjustments needed during the dive without actually taking the clasp off underwater. The bezel is a lot easier to grip the bezel in actual saltwater waves vs the sub. You can get them in Stainless and Titanium. Ohh yes you can actually get them regularly. Other then the name Rolex on the dial I can't think of a reason to get the sub rather then a GS.
Now that you have the Rolex itch out of the way it's time to explore GS, JLC, or one of the holy trinity which well yeah.................. I don't know that I'll ever go for a Rolex again but that's just me.

I think I’ve started the itch! Haha. I agree I would love a JLC Ultra thin but it’s $35k for the one I won’t, so that’s next level for me. GS are also beautiful 👍🏼

    • @SunRise-ul7ko
      @SunRise-ul7ko Год назад +1

I have to agree. GS make a much more attractive dive watch & the spring drive movement with it's sweeping second hand is in a class of it's own.

@@alfieakaronaldog I've always been a big Seiko fan from a child. However, I wanted a high-end Swiss watch, so I looked at Omega & Rolex Sub. I ended up buying an Omega moon watch for its historic value & the fact it was a chronograph. for the dive watch, I was looking at the Rolex sub. I ended up buying the GS spring drive dive watch instead, a much better watch in every way. I would never take a sub over a GS now,

Congratulations again Miss Jess although I do agree with number of your statements that the overall design has not changed that much over the years the quality of the watch definitely has although I would personally prefer to have the 40 mil case right before this design in my opinion the only submariners that are really worth having would be the ones that have ceramic bezel and glidelock I really enjoy vintage rolexes for their history but when you compare them up-close and personal to the newest stuff it's just not the same kind of level of course historically speaking in comparison to what other watches were on the market at the same time they were very well built but for example older vintage rolexes the bracelets are made of folded over steel then they went to a Hollow link with Hollow end links they kept that up until like almost two thousand and six or seven I think and even though my personal favorite submariners case is the ones from 2005 and older I would not purchase A submariner unless it was at least a 2012 or newer

Very nice info E, cheers. I haven’t quite down the vintage watch collecting rabbit hole. There’s some obvious watches I’d probably like one day to round out a collection if I was aiming for that. But hopefully I can contain myself to just newer models, of which, the list is vast!

So very pleased for you, but the Cyclops is 'Butt Monkey Ugly' as someone famously once said.
Upset that you still feel you are not on an Ad's radar! You seem the exact person that should be :)
Have never been a Sub fan until earlier this year, but really want one now after getting my Grail (despite its faults) Batman.
You are a perfect watch fan/youtuber apart from the Rolex AD hate.
The date is something you should have to look for when you need to know the date, not something you see every time you just want to know the time.
Make peace with an AD. You are supremely personable and a true watch fan.
Spread the word that Rolex is something to be embraced, not hated on.

Good point! I recently got an Omega SMP 300, and was thinking how great it was to have screws instead of the old pin and collar crap. After removing one link with their fidley little screws on both ends, I was was wishing for the pins. Why the hell couldn't Omega just do it like everybody else does? It isn't that freaking hard - all the cheap Chinese brands do it!
