I saw Harriet on Friday. Best. Movie. Ever. It's SO empowering, SO motivating, and it inspires me to dig deeper into my roots and move to completely connect with my culture. The struggle portrayed in historical movies such as Harriet is more than what we learn from history books. It reminds us of the oppression that had to be experienced so that we could get to where we are today. Not just African Americans but everyone in our country who has the rights that are "unalienable" and the freedoms that my ancestors and others' ancestors didn't have.
@Planet EarthEveryone is entitled to their own opinion and I respect that. That's your opinion and this is mine. I've actually seen the movie and I really enjoyed it. Yes some points were different from what I've researched but overall I feel the main point was clear and I definitely feel that anyone who sees the movie will have a clearer understanding of who Harriet Tubman was and why she was and is important. That is what matters not the actress who plays the role but how well she executes it. This movie is needed in modern America.
She was an amazing woman she had strong faith in God determined had the holy spirit in her and I believe that God blessed her every step of the way to free slaves nobody should be a prisoner or slave to any human being especially today there slavery in different countries and we need to free those people to I pray with all my heart that we get rid of prejudism the prejudism is not of God call brothers and sisters in this world and everybody needs to be free free will to choose and to live with dignity and respect
Yall can say what you want....Cynthia Erivo did a FANTASTIC job depicting Harriet. She is a BLACK woman. People are always looking for something to uproot our success as a people. And for all of you who dare say that Erivo is trash, shame on YOU. She rose to fame in her acclaimed role playin Celia in The Color Purple On Broadway. Are y’all gonna attack her for that too?! When you all win Emmy’s Grammy’s and Tony’s then you come let me know.
THANK YOU!!! 👍👍👍 It's not about the actor/actress who plays the role it's about how well he or she executes it. And Cynthia Erivo played that role like she was really going through that. In every word she spoke, I felt like I really got to experience on a minor level the oppression my ancestor's physically experienced. I know I will never know the complete hardship, fear, faith, and unity that was experienced in that time but I truly feel that Cynthia Erivo made the experience real.
I enjoyed the film, it made me think about all of the different aspect of lives of the people who were enslaved, born free and who brought/became free. Please everyone, let us be considerate to each other when we voice our opinions. The movie honors someone that believed in freedom and fought for hers and that of others. She, Harriet IS worthy of focus, love, and the effort to learn more about. And I left with renewed hope and determination.
To whom it applies: Which American actress do you think should have had the role? Cynthia Erivo was well suited for the role and is an excellent artist.
It is not so much about Cynthia's ethnicity....it is about her disrespectful comments and calling ADOS "akadas" which she would have called Queen Mother Harriet Tubman and Martin L. King too. If you don't like a certain group of people why play their historic leaders? We are all black and should be able to play characters of our various nations like in Black Panther...ADOS, Caribbean and Africans played those roles....OK by me...we all black. But please respect each other's ethnicities. BTW the way blacks globally responded to Black Panther scared elite white folks and they have gathered their black boule globally to put propaganda out there to separate blacks globally so the next Black Panther won't have the same impact.
