Matthias Wandel I just bought the program. It's absolutely fantastic. Thank you very much for your work. However, you should really update your website to mention that your program does now also provide export to .csv functionality. I'm sure you're missing potential buyers because of this as I myself was rather hesitant about ordering thinking export to .svg isn't supported and that I would need to fiddle with exporting to .dxf then converting to .svg using Inkscape or some other 3rd program. It goes without saying that seeing export to .svg is indeed supported was a very pleasant surprise. You see, exporting to .svg is required in order to be able to import the gear profiles directly into Autodesk's 123D Design. Which is a rather popular free 3D modelling application. And is likely also the easiest way to import into other 3D modelling applications as well. Thank you for your excellent work on this fine program.

Agreed, making gears in solidworks or inventor is a legitimate nightmare. Wish i had found this video in my second semester project when i needed to build a gearbox.
It should run on parallels, just try the eval. But most people don't use that, and mac users aren't always the most savy, so I figured it's best not to mention that explicitly.
Wanting a good deal, and not ceeding control to apple would each be reason enough on their own. I care not to join the masses who "think differently" just like everybody else. I just want to be able to do what I want and control how I do it.

This is brilliant. Thank you. I am definitely getting this. Can it make bevel gears or fishbone gears? If now, I can probably add that effect when I import these into my 3D software. Since plywood could be difficult, my idea would be to segment the gear wheel into several portions in order to achieve the optimum wood fiber orientation in each teeth. If no (and I apologize if you've already answered this and I've overlooked the answer), how does one go about adding more gearing to the train?
Hello. I am a gearbox designer and was wondering if this software can output manufacturing dimensions of an involute tooth profile if I input the necessary parameters (Pitch Diameter, addendum, dedendum, tooth count, pressure angle etc.). Would be a great asset to me if it can at this price.
You have some great features in this program, I do have one question, what do you use for rendering? Is it something that goes with framework or is it some other plugin? Thanks.
All modern PCs run OSX, Linux, and Windows. The only Mac that is a good deal is the mini as it has decent build quality and the hardware is what you'd expect for price. The macbook pro, pro, and imac are all quite appallingly expensive for what are basically dells wrapped in aluminum (apple even copied Dell's mysterious ability to catch fire at one point with their laptops). Ultrabooks are all pretty stupid and the air is no exception there.
press and hold the set button it could be in setting mode try a different battery (seems to fix most problems) other than that, the bin is the best place

Well after wasting the better part of the evening trying to work out gear calculations and design them in Fusion 360 using there stupid gear script I'm just about ready to break down and buy this. I used the free eval and it does exactly what I need. Thanks Matthias!!

When you say that it will not run on a Mac computer do you mean that it will not run on OS X or do you mean that there is a hardware problem that it won't run on Parallels and WinXP Pro on a Mac?
I was trying the software to produce a #25 chain roller sprocket to eventually laser cut. I use the info available online but the results were not correct, the shape of the teeth were off for some reason.
Hι. I find the program interesting and would like to ask if the programs do calculations involving speed. For example, in the case of a chain, the relationship between the rotation speed and the diameter of the sprocket and the linear speed of the chain or ratio between different size of gears.
Me too. That is why I use Macs. They run OS X, Windows, Linux and Unix. I am never limited that way. By the way, 5% of computer users don't quite qualify as 'the masses'. I am really impressed with your energy and creativity. Keep up the great videos.

@Matthiaswandel I do my laser cutting through Ponoko, and they only use .eps and .svg, so that's what I need. I use Inkscape for most of my editing, so svg is preferable!
Hi Mattias I have used your programme on and off since 2014: the one thing I don t seem to retain is how you set the overall diameter size; in the past I used the grid which helped a bit but never thought it was the most effective way to do it, can you help?
A fantastic program, extremely useful. I've been a very happy customer for 2 years. Unfortunately, I recently lost it (and the email with the download link) during a computer disaster, and despite many friendly emails, Matthias has refused to help me, or even discuss why he won't. I don't understand how he could be so dismissive to a paying customer.
Dave Johnson it really wouldn’t be a great heartache to pay for it again, it’s really not expensive and I really think that if you have no proof of purchase then it would be very difficult for anyone to give you a refund or new product, how could anyone know that you are being honest with them and I reckon they would go broke pretty quickly. I think it sucks that you’ve lost your product and proof of purchase, I truly do feel for you but I know that Matthias has been very decent in his dealings with most people that I have heard of and maybe you will just have to take the loss as being one of those things that happens, buy it again and make sure that you back it up, back it up again and make good backups of your purchase as well. Best of luck with it and at least you didn’t lose a purchase of say gearotics and blow over $100 replacing it, Matthias is a very inexpensive program in comparison
Alex, you cannot compare software with hardware. It should be a nosedrip, to check, if Dave has payed or not. If yes, Mattias could send him one more copy. This is normal in the software-industry. Part of job is to buy software.
Personally I would think it to be good customer service for Matthias to assume your intensions are good. I think this issue can be interpreted as one of two things. Either you did not really buy the software and are trying to scam him, or you did buy it and find his product to be beneficial to your work. If I were dealing with a person who claimed through word of mouth alone to be a customer in a tight spot, I would evaluate the situation based on which party will suffer more. Will Matthias suffer more by giving software to a person pulling a fast one on him? Or, will a possibly genuine customer suffer more from being denied help after experiencing a computer dilemma. If it were me, I would send out the software and make it a point to keep more meticulous records of just who exactly has purchased goods from me so that I could be sure to offer them the best quality service in the future.

I'm having problems downloading the file on vista. I right click to compress the zip file inorder to make a folder for it, but the file copies itself the same way it was before without creating a compressed folder for itself. And, it's appearance is that of a file that I must choose a program to open it. Please help someone.

The gear ratio is the ratio of the gears, which is something you enter. Not something that needs calculation.

Gears only mesh two at a time. If your need more than two gears, design them one pair at a time.

Can you change the hole from round to hex in the program? Also could you add the feature allowing an export as a .stl file (3D Printers)

About window is not fixed in size, no application icons (small fixes but it will be look like a much more polished product)
The problem is you can't increase the RPM of the animation but not super critical you could leave the program like that.

The undercut seems to be too extreme in most cases. The calculations need to include addendum modifications.
