    Following the successes in international tournaments of Moscow (1925) and Moscow (1935), Nikolai Vasilyevich Krylenko again sought to stun the chess world and the Soviet Union with a third international event between Soviet masters and their foreign counterparts. This time, however, he conceived of a more rigorous format, with the ten players (five Soviets and five foreigners) in a double round robin competition. The lineup was impressive, with Capablanca and Lasker being invited back a third time to compete in Moscow, in addition to the previous year's winners, Botvinnik and Flohr. The tournament was held in Moscow's famous Hall of Columns from May 14 to June 8. Capablanca's near flawless accuracy and superiority in the endgame proved to be instrumental in winning first prize by a full point over the future world champion Botvinnik. Lasker, who had always finished ahead of his successor to the crown in prior tournaments, started out strongly, but at 67 years of age he became fatigued more easily and his performance suffered during the second cycle. The tournament brought immense excitement and interest, both to the citizens of the Soviet Union and to the greater world at large. Capablanca's first place was to be one of the last successes against the Soviet Chess School before the triumph of Robert James Fischer 36 years later. It was also the last hurrah for Krylenko, the founder and organizer of the tournament. He was arrested in January 1938, tried and executed later that year.

    If Capablanca got into the endgame with even a slight positional advantage, it was pretty much game over. One of the greatest players of all time!

    I love Capablanca's game. They are so methodical that everything falls nicely into place from beginning to end. Great analysis!

    I love capablanca! I usually make some mistakes in the opening/midgame, but then I fix it in the endgame. Your videos really helped me get better insight.

      Wannes Malfait damn i am a god early game and then move 40 or something i blunder a piece for no reason whatsoever

    • @WannesMalfait
      @WannesMalfait 6 лет назад

      Faileby Yes, but I'm not really that good. I'm bad at time controls under 10 mins. I have like 1500+ rating on rapid but like a 1250 rating in bullet and blitz.😂😂

    • @MrSupernova111
      @MrSupernova111 6 лет назад

      @ Wannes Malfait, I have 1800 online rating in 1 minute bullet. Fix your end game and your rating will jump. Once you study and understand various endgame theories you will start thinking about the game as continuous strategy from the beginning. Often times I have little to no advantage in the middlegame but I realize that I can force a winning endgame and it works.

    • @WannesMalfait
      @WannesMalfait 6 лет назад +1

      Supernova Yes I have just 1 or 2 go to openings and then I try to push for advantage in the endgame. I lose 90% of my games by blundering pieces under time pressure.😂 Thanks for the advice.

    • @MrSupernova111
      @MrSupernova111 6 лет назад

      That's a good strategy. If you have time to read some books I highly recommend Silman's books on endgame and strategy and any of Capablanca's books. I alternate between them and it has helped a lot. Good luck!

    Thank you for the great videos! Your analyses of the games are so clear, precise, and instructive. Appreciate all the videos of Capablanca, my favorite player. Too bad a rematch between Capa and Alekhine never materialized depriving the chess world of a match between these two titans of chess. A well prepared Capa, unlike their match in 1927, in my opinion, would have beaten Alekhine in a close match.

    At 10:47 why didn't Rumin play nb5 capturing the pawn? It would bring an immediate attack on a7pawn so black has to either move it then nd6 check, king moves, night C4 guarding the pawn. And if black captures a3 pawn after nd5, white is simply up a pawn..

    I'm using an Android app called Follow Chess. It allows me to see events in progress, watch games live (computer board, not video) and replay completed games. It is free and doesn't contain ads. (I had a similar app on my iPhone but I don't recall it's name. )
    Watching Agadmator has dramatically improved my appreciation and enjoyment of this sort of app.

    Before anyone shoots me down for my question, I am an amateur having played at a young age then getting back to it this year...Question, if given the choice, is it wise to exchange a Bishop for a Knight? I personally think a Bishop is a more powerful piece mid-game, but a Knight is a more powerful piece for the end game, so I am conflicted.
