  • Repairing rotted wood instead of replacing it is sometimes the best option. First try to determine why the wood has become rotten and fix the cause. If the wood is structural (load bearing), most fillers are not strong enough to bear the load of a building.
Durham's Rock Hard Putty is an inexpensive way to repair rotted wood. The biggest short fall is that it can't be exposed to water. It must be covered with paint. Insure that the putty is fully dried before painting or covering with a layer of glue or silicone. If paint won't stay on the putty patch, then it is likely water is seeping into the putty.
