I've been using a mega memory card to do backups of the saves before swapping the batteries for as long as i can even remember, this is such a simple solution i can't believe no one thought of sooner.
I have two Mega Memory Card (recently fixed one on Rumble). One is my original from the ‘90s and I still have the box. :) That said, I’ve always just dumped the saves with my Bung GB Xchanger which I’ve had since the ‘90s.
@@Solder_king I remember corrupting my MegaMem Card with the relatively huge save from a Game Boy Camera so it isn’t a perfect solution. Also, the UI doesn’t describe the difference between “Erase” and “Delete” well enough. You might need to remove one of the save backups to make room to backup another and in the process you end up wiping the very cartridge you wanted to backup!
Oh nice ^_^ I just recorded a video series on dealing with the Gameboy batteries, and gave a shoutout to you in it for your Super-Frankenstein wire soldering skills! Got to edit up that video right now, but it may not be up until Wednesday or so. P.S. I use the GB operator in there :P
tbh I feel like this way has a lot more things that can go wrong instead of dumping the content to a file since soldering inside the cartrdige shell could also lead to problems
It does a little but in my testing of GB games not enough to make the cart drop out. I will have to do more testing for GBA games. I initially wanted to use an op amp for the indicator and I just might for the second revision just so we can elimiate that voltage drop
Next revision add a switch for the USB power you can can have it plugged in then just turn it on and off as needed, something like a latching switch or rocker switch. Cool idea.

I have never even heard of that device! Just googled it and dang it looks cool and also exactly how I expected lol. Miss those days of accessories

I've been doing this exact method but with a bench power supply for years now with no issues. All boils down to ones ability.
Use a donor shell if you can’t do it without melting the shell.
Doesn't placing the LED indicator through the ground path rob the cartridge of voltage?

It's weird. Some USB sources work great and others turn off after a few seconds.
Hey have you ever thought about making an Xbox controller with Hall effect sticks if that’s even possible to try and remove drift permanently?
