I used to be an LD. I always told people that if they noticed me I failed my job. Same for sound. I noticed the sound in this video.

It sounds like a room mic. This is often used as a backup in case the lav or headset mic recording is lost. There can be many pints of failure here, corrupted recording files, a bad cable but probably something very simple. Unfortunately with these types of events there is only chance to capture it which can be devastating, the irony here is the lighting tech triumphs on a spiked presentation which is something the audio engineer will not live without jokes made by their colleagues 😅

Interresting content but the echo is disturbing.
It seems like there's only room ambiance mic in the sound mix.
It could be easier to focus on the subjet if you added the orator's mic in the mix and lowed the ambiance down (approx -20dB).
    Have a good day

@OM Lighting Design The Auditorium needs some absorber plates, or maybe the PA is turned up too high? Having it too loud is extremely disturbinng for the speaker, hearing her voice delayed like that.

@OM Lighting Design I really wasn't complaining, just thinking out loud. yes delay speakers, adds reverb when you go off axis to a side at certain spots, as you would possibly be with a camera, but it still sounds like the speakers are cranked up too high. Tomorrow, I need to do a 1 hour shoot, with a wireless mic on the speaker and ambient sound from the internal mic in the camera, music is recorded by an assistant on a portable recorder. I imagine 50 things that will go wrong tomorrow, like the choreographed camera position shifts, where a stationary cellphone supplies the B-roll unattended!! and I still need to put up the stage front lights at 7 AM!! So please, just consider my ramblings an expression of nerves! Cheers.

@OM Lighting Design Interesting, I didn't know that. The auditorium I was referring to, has small 3ft tall line arrays, for speech each with 5 or 6 small fulltone speakers on the side walls . They are run in pairs and point diagonally towards the rear into the crowd, the furthest to the back pair has the longest delay. This system sounds decent if you are along the centerline in the room, but the sound becomes worse, like in this video, as you get closer to the wall. What you are referring to, is the right way to do it, like in a venue, and we have had professionally musicians hauling their own gear, including a single active line array, that also had a subwoofer in the bottom, and the sound was much better.

@@dawn8135 Because the clip's sound is totally messed up, using the wet room sound instead of the dry presenter mic?

Guys, I need some professional advice from the combined visdom of RUclips comments: I'm doing a setup in a church and the "stage" is in a dark absis without windows. However the rest of the church with the benches have tall windows. So far I've only put up a vertical row of 6500K LEDs on each side in the absis and I have good fill and color rendition playing nicely along with the large amount of natural light when the subjects are on the front of the stage, but everything looks flat as it is evenly illuminated. So my question is about a proper front wash? Do I use 6500K too, or do I go for warmer color? Also to the rear of the stage, there are some old Tungsten spotights for the background and they of course look somewhat yellow with my 6500K lamps, do I upgrade theese bulbs too, but maybe only to 5000K, to keep the somewhat warmer light to the back of the stage? It is a sensible church, so I'm not going for the "Hands in the air" rock concert look, but more like the "presenter" mood of this video. Do you have any advice?

Homogenize the stage lights and scenic lights at 5600k and any cameras should be white balanced according. This will allow your cameras to better render colors accurately. (better than if you did 4800k or Warner)
...Why care about the cameras? ...Because the cameras are the only thing that will remember it all.

Great lighting 101. Now let's work on audio 101 and learn how to mic a speaker.
