    While I'm a fan of alternate history, I can't see Eva Braun being like this. By all accounts she was more concerned with cosmetics and fashion than anything Nazi-related. She was so concerned with looking pretty she actually demanded Hitler allow the banned production on cosmetics to resume, and Hitler thus ordered Albert Speer to do so.
    Now, if they had somehow written that Joseph and Magda Goebbels had survived, I could see Magda being like this. Or even Margarete Himmler. But not Eva.

    As a German it is so sad how poorly Americans portrait Hitler. He is always that insane guy bragging how evil and bad he is. But that does not fit him a single bit. There is a German movie called "Er ist wieder da" which means "He is back again". There you see a really good portrait of him. What really makes him scary are 2 different things.
    First he always has a vision, a dream of a greater future. And he was so charismatic that you really wanted to believe in what he said. He was not that crazy dude from the beginning. He was a normal guy like you and me which made him so sympathic. And once you realise where you have gone with him, it was way too late.
    Second, when you look in eyes, he stares right at your face, but somehow you realise that what he sees is not your face. He sees right through you into some greater vision. It does not even matter what he says, you just realise that whatever path he sees, it is covered in blood and by dead people.

    • @Cormonkey18
      @Cormonkey18 5 месяцев назад +24

      idk man maybe he is portrayed poorly due to all the people he is directly responsible for their deaths?

    • @TeBThor87
      @TeBThor87 5 месяцев назад +62

      @@Cormonkey18 I don't think so. You have to understand one thing. When the allies arrived at Germany in 1945 they saw the final end product of what the Nazis did. They were shocked and had no explanation for how people could be so cruel to their own kind. They found all the killed people in the concentration camps, all the left documents and some soldiers still fighting a war in their heads for an already broken and defeated country.
      What the allies missed back then was how this whole thing started, how it got out of hand and how people. They never saw the whole process from an ideology to all this stuff that happened. They only saw the outcome in the end. And since they did not understand how this happened they thought of Hitler and the Nazis as these all crazy people they were. But most of the German soldiers were just men who fought for their families at home. Most of people knew that people went missing around them but were too afraid to be the next. Most people had no idea about what happened inside these concentration camps for they seemed like normal prisons.
      Hitler had an ideology of uniting people and work for a better life for themselves and their families. He had a dream and a vision of making Germany great again. I'm not saying Trump is like Hitler for he is definizly not. But I hope you understand how easy it is to follow someone you believe in and actually tries to hold his promises to you.
      None of the normal people back then saw the brutal way how he did it. And people believed that the end justified the means. There were people who believed in Hitlers visions that they did things on their own which even Hitler did not want. You ever heard of the day the Nazis set the German parlament on fire to spread fear? I know from an Interview I saw this was without Hitlers knowing. This whole thing was planned by Josef Goebbels and Martin Bohrmann. Once Hitler found out he was so angry at them that he yelled at them. There was another scene I remember where some German soldiers should be sent to prison for they raped a french woman. Hitler told his men that such behaviour needs to be punished by death and they were both executed the same night. When there was a shortage of food he ordered that that everyone should only eat some apples for breakfast. And he actually ordered his people at home to bring him only 2 apples in the morning.
      What I am trying to say, there actually were a couple of reasons to follow that man for he had some good ideas that in the end just went too far. He was not that crazy dude from the very beginning. He maybe turned into it due to all the decisions he believed he had to made. And when there is no one around you to say no, you actually loose track of reality. You loose your touch to the people.
      But all of this was not seen back then when the allies arrived and what they saw went into history books. Not how it all happened.

      both the book and movie are good. i thought both endings, though different are equally horrific in their own ways. the book perhaps even more so. It's the happier ending because it holds the audience to be intelligent enough to comprehend what really is being stated. In that believing the nazi's to be this almost mythological horror monsters we're forgetting what is really behind it all, and how through that we open the door to a repeat of it's horrors. And it's true. The west have become complacent and we're seeing national socialism and fascism return. Heck here in the netherlands we used to have the NSB, the dutch cousin to the NSDAP, both flying red and black flags, having mobs assault people. These days we have 'anti'fa, waving black and red flags, attacking journalists, wearing all black. We have people crying out for fascism believing their vision is socialism because they never bothered to look and read behind the superficial. Since the attacks on Israel the hatred of jews has come back in full swing. Jews are scared to hold lectures, jews are attacked in the streets. The worst is that it wasn't even a hundred years ago when this al started too.

    • @TeBThor87
      @TeBThor87 5 месяцев назад

      @@fallyn2920 Yep. But we should also not forget, that the hatred for jews is over 2000 years old. That is not something the Nazis came up with. Also this whole conflict in Gaza and Israel is far more complicated than we think. I believe both sides want this war to happen for a long time. Reason is, I heard some "expert" say, that Israel knew of the invade month before and moved their troops away from the border. Hamas were invading totally empty military bases which is why they could go this far. If that is true than Israel wanted Hamas to invade their land so they had a legal reason to finally hunt them all down.
      However I see this as Donald Trump. I don't want to choose sides. I want everybody to stop dying. That is what our goal should be. And the only way to find a solition everyone can live with, is together and only in dialogue.
      And btw, when the NSDAP got into power they actually were the left wing socialism party that stood for the working class. What the Nazis did was basically the same what marx socialists in Russia and China did. They took land and money from their people to dictate what should be done. And everyone who didn't agree were sent to prison. That is the same we see in Russia and China and North Korea nowadays. The only difference to marx socialism is that the evil was a "race" and not class. Marx socialism tells that the bourgeoisies are the bad guys while Nazis blamed jews. And that is the only small difference that makes Nazis be seen as right wing today.
      In my opinion we shall never ever allow any ideology to get into our politics. Because this is were everything starts to get wrong and where some people legally get better than others. We also see that this is already happening with this whole woke movement and their gender language. And the really scary part is that no one sees the parallels.

    Interesting. They finally found an actor who actually speaks German. For those of you who do not speak German: The subtitles with the English translation are wrong and put different words and a different meaning in his mouth. The German version is better and makes much more sense. As for Eva Hitler (yes, he actually had married her in the end, only a few hours before he shot her and then committed suicide himself) - that actress has a Lena Olin vibe; there wouldn't be anything wrong with that normally, but it just does not fit Eva Hitler at all. Also, there are no historical records indicating any active involvement of Eva in actual politics, even less that she might have had any influence whatsoever on Hitler's plans. She was a concubine in the shadows and did not even have any actual public appearences related to state affairs. So... Her dialog does not make any sense. Neither does Hitler's physical violence in that scene. He might have had fits of rage, but as the records indicate, those were always verbal and never physical - he might have screamed at people and even sentenced his failing military leaders to be shot, but he never raised his hand and used physical violence himself. Rather the opposite: Even his last secretary said that he was actually a caring (!) person. Unlike how many movies depict him, most people felt very comfortable in his presence. (Which, by the way, is a trait many historical dictators share. According to politicians who visited him, Fidel Castro must have been a very charming and great host, for example.)
    In any case: The above is a nice villain scene in a movie. It's just not based upon the actual historical characters at all.

      I think the writers wrote it like this for people like me. We see Hitler as pure evil and don't give a shit about any single social redeeming quality. Like Trump whom I like to refer to as the Fuhrer. We know little about Ava except she was a Nazi loving self-serving skank who had no problem with the inhalation of 7 million people. Sort of like Malania Trump whom I refer to as Ava Braun.
