    Pretty standard oil change. No fussy procedures needed. That's good. If you could lift it no reason the owner couldn't do it themselves. I'm all for user serviceability

    • @jwsnyder5021
      @jwsnyder5021 Год назад

      Easy way to lift the C8 for an oil change: Get an inflatable jack (Harbor Freight like $90), and 16 2x8's, 11-12" long (Home D will cut 'em $1 a cut). Jack up each corner at the jacking puck, put 4 2x8's under each wheel, do the rears first & have chocks under the front wheels. You can do the rears only, but I like the car level for draining. The inflatable jack is a blast to use and so easy! I have a Quick Jack but dragging out the ramps & hooking the hoses up is a big pain, I will use it if I'm removing the wheels...

    When Phil begins adding oil to the C8, have him start by adding 7.5 instead of only 7. That way the engine is not running low (Needing more) while it warms up to operating temperature. Also, make sure he resets the oil life indicator.

  • @MitchellPetersonJr
    @MitchellPetersonJr 4 года назад +8

    You can't see anything in the filter by just looking down inside it. To see if there are any shavings, the filter needs to be cut open and the element stretched flat. The metal is between the pleats.

    • @jwsnyder5021
      @jwsnyder5021 Год назад +1

      Shine a flashlight in the filter; the oil at the bottom will look like metallic paint...fair amount of wear as the rings seat into the cylinders...changed mine at 1350, will go for the free dealer change at 7k, along with tranny filter. FYI, have 8 quarts on hand, takes almost 8 to get near the full line (bottle are quarts, not liters)...

      @@jwsnyder5021 Wrong. The clean oil comes from the center.

      @@MitchellPetersonJr "Wrong?" Please. Do not contradict what I saw. The oil in the filter looked like metallic paint; this is why I do the initial oil change at 2000mi or less...I don't want those particles that the GM filter "missed" going thru the engine. FYI, not my 1st trip around the block; I was building Triumph Spitfires for SCCA road racing in the late '60s, and finished 6th OA, 1st in GTU (RX-7), Sebring early '80s...

      I don’t know if anyone else caught this, but as the oil was draining, Phil simply dropped the drain plug into the old dirty oil. Then later when he was to put the drain plug back in, he took it out of the dirty oil and without even wiping it off, reinserted it back in the car. Isn’t there a new washer to be used on the drain plug? And as someone else said, to find metal shavings in the oil filter, the filter needs to be cut open and examined between the pleats of the filter. Lastly, when I do my oil changes I fill to just below the FULL mark.

  • @steveflor9942

    A nice video... Although.. as other posters noted: he didn't use a torque wrench, didn't install a new drain plug washer, didn't explain at all how to tighten the filter. (Usually, 3/4 of a turn after the gasket makes contact.) Didn't wipe clean oil filter, drain plug mating surfaces.
