Hey from the back couch on the left! I just wanted to give a massive shoutout to SB for this redemption run-if you don't remember, he had a major mishap doing this category at SGDQ 2022. It was an incredible recovery; however, since then he has been putting countless hours into Sunshine, improving WR several times in the process, and it led to this moment where he put on an incredibly solid 120 shine run. Massive props to not giving up, not backing down but instead absolutely destroying the time estimate and continuing to push the limits in this game.
oh yes, thanks for the info, I was wondering if SB_runs changed his name in sblectric, cause it seemed like the same person! The run from 2022 is still one of my favorite runs from gdq to rewatch, and I'm totally delighted that this run here will join this list. So fun and entertaining to watch :)
YEP! I'm so glad that GDQ had SB back to do the exact same category he tried to do before, and get his redemption. The 2022 run, while momentarily disastrous, was incredibly heartwarming due to the massive outpouring of support that the commentators, audience, and Twitch chat all showed him in doing the alternate run. So, so glad GDQ had him back.

I've been following SB's runs on Twitch for a while, and he's truly amazing. Seeing his mastery and deep knowledge of this game is incredible and super entertaining. I absolutely loved his 2022 run as well, and I'm so glad he crushed it at this incredible run too. Also, as far as I know, I think this GDQ run here set a world record for fastest 120-shine ever achieved from a new save file (rather than a hacked file that omits the cutscenes)!
That run is still a great watch for how SB still pulled off a hell of a showcase even in spite of it all & a grand reminder to never give up even when things do go wrong.

mario sunshine speedruns are always great and i always look forward to seeing them each gdq. this one to me is S tier. Commentators are such a vibe and sblectric's gameplay is nuts. best speedrun this year for me
This game is seriously SO much fun to watch. Super underrated speedrun game (and my personal all-time favorite), with all the glitches, exploits, and incredible movement.
This is the perfect example of how a couch should be. They hype, the fill the void, they are entertaining, they are engaging and most important, they are informed and do a great job of explaining what's happening.
It would be cool to get some regular commentators...but they'd have to be dang good runners themselves to explain all the strats for each game...the closest I've seen are guys like Maximillian Dood or Yipes in the FGC (Fighting game community) who know their stuff and are charismatic enough to entertain...but that's only one genre, with speedrunning, you'd almost have to have a programmer doing the commentary to break down the literal tech used in many of the exploits...but yeah, they were on-point with their explanations in this run...
Fantastic and enjoyable run, SB is a great runner and Hex/Rox are some of the best commentators GDQ has ever had - would be awesome to see them more involved with GDQ in the future!

"New File" is a filter, not a category, so no WR. Ever since the hacked file rule changed, the 120 category has advanced a lot. Starting a fresh file at GDQ and crushing a 3 year old record pre-rule change really shows how far it's come. It's also the 5th place WR, and is only 3min slower than the 120 WR (also held by SBLectric) despite being done in one attempt. Massive achievement!
