Aw thoughts and prayers out to Zoe!! Thank you for making this video, Michelle. It's such an important message. I unfortunately was diagnosed about 5 years ago but thank goodness I only had to have surgery and now I get checked every six months. I tell everyone I meet to have a smear as well. I hope Zoe makes a full recovery xx

Prayers and best wishes going your way Zoe! I'm very sorry to hear about this, & I'm going to defiantly sign that petition and hope for a change. As a cancer survivor myself, I know what it feels like. I just turned 21 and for the past year I was fighting for my life, & in my situation unfortunately we found it late as well, stage 4, and I had to go under strong aggressive therapy, but throughout the whole way I had faith, I wanted to give up at times, but I didn't, & I'm here now! never lose the faith. God is good! I wish you nothing but the best... God bless!

This really struck a chord with me. I have been putting off getting a pap smear for so long. I'm 24 and should have gotten one years ago. I guess I am scared about what the results could be.. I know that is such a stupid way of thinking as this small procedure could save my life. Thanks so much Michelle for this video, I am going to make an appointment tomorrow. x

I went to my doctor to try and get one done because i was getting constant abdominal cramps for months on end, she was really happy to refer me for one but said she couldnt, because the lab would reject it because of my age...no matter that i was getting symptoms.
Thank goodness i had a private clinic i could go to, but i feel so sorry for the girls who maybe arent able to or dont know about it, so its so good to raise awareness! Its literally the most re-assuring thing in the world when youre worried and your test comes back normal. Sending my best wishes to your friend xxx

Hi! Did it turn out to be anything but cancer?

  • @wiccanloverkris

This is a big thing in the UK and a lot of people have been lobbying for it since Jade Goody passed away. I remember having mine done, it wasn't as scary as I thought, mainly just uncomfortable and luckily my tests came back negative. However I wasn't even aware of it until I got my letter at 25 and I booked my appointment within the week. I think its something that has to be made massively more known about, I didn't even know that you could pay to have it done privately. I am signing the petition, I hope that others do as this is something that really needs to be spoken about more and the fear behind it needs to be abolished. I wish all the best to Zoe, cancer is completely awful, but shes healthy and positive and you'll be amazed what that can get her through! Kick ass, girl! xx

Love that you spread this powerful and important message. At 23 I had a smear test that came back abnormal. I had CIN 2 and CIN 3 stage pre cancerous cells, which were removed. I am overdue to have another smear test but will make an appointment asap. Thank you for your message and I hope your friend is well xx

I've lost so many people to cancer in my life, and if something as simple as making smear test available for younger people is going to make a difference then it needs to happen. I'm 22 and even considering my family history this wasn't even on my raider to have done yet. Thank you for making this video, I'm sure you're support means a lot to Zoe.

I can perfectly understand your struggle because 3 years ago I discovered that I had some pre-cancer cells and I had surgery to fix everything. I do the test every year since I was 17 and this helped me to prevent things like your friend. Now I'm 30, I had to do the test every 6 months for 2 years after syrgery and now that at the moment everything is ok I can do it once a year again. Things like this leave a mark on you because you have to live with the fear that it could happen again but I'm thankful to my mum that teached me to go and make the test every year, it's SO important!! Stay close and give love to your friend, she really needs it now. Big kisses

I love that you're using your platform to talk about this. A friend if mine went through a similar thing and I agree, it's so so important to have a smear test done. I put mine off for year because I was worried it would be awkward and uncomfortable. Finally had one done at the age of 28 and thankfully everything was OK, it's sad that it's not always the case for everyone. I have signed the petition, thanks for sharing this story xx

I've had two smears and as terrified as I was they are honestly 2 minutes of being a bit awkward but could save your life. My sister had cervical cancer at age 30 that had spread to the lymph nodes in the area just as your friend's cancer has. SHE ONLY MISSED ONE YEAR's Pap smear! It can get that bad, that fast. She needed radiation and not only a total hysterectomy at age 30, ending her dream of having children (it's even hard to adopt when you've had cancer), but she also needed surgical removal of all the lymph nodes in her upper thigh area. Lymph nodes move lymph fluid from one area of our body to another and without the nodes! The fluid accumulates and causes major swelling, pain and puffiness (not to mention what the way it looks can do to a woman's self image. She must wear thick medical compression stockings all day, every day and sleep with a type of thick cast that goes from toes to hip and inflates to move the fluid. My sister ended up going to medical school & becoming an MD because of her experience. She hasn't worn shorts or a swimsuit since it happened (15 years ago). GET TESTED YEARLY!

I'm grateful for our health care coverage and not worrying about how to pay means we tend to take advantage of these opportunities for us. Human beings deserve access to excellent health care. I didn't have my first smear until 4 years after I started being sexually active and by that stage my abnormal cells were far further alone than they should have been even though I'd had my vaccinations at high school. I was lucky that mine were treatable. Surgery to remove them was a traumatic experience and still there is always a chance that it can come back. Enough women don't realise the risk of not getting regular check ups and how easy it is to have this happen no matter how careful you are, how healthy you think you are or even if you've had the vaccinations as I had. Many of my friends hadn't had papsmears until we found out what I had and I'm so grateful that what happened to me at least means that hopefully if they do have something it won't be as near a miss as it was for me. It's a terrifying experience and I'm so sorry to hear about Zoe. I hope she can get through this. Thank you for raising awareness about this and encouraging girls to get checked. It's lifesaving❤️

  • @FixingBakesUK
    @FixingBakesUK 8 лет назад

I think in the UK it varies it each province. I live in Northern Ireland and you're offered a smear test at your GP as soon as your sexually active or they'll send an invite letter as soon as you turn 18. I have always attended mine but my friend 'was too embarrassed' anyway after much nagging she had one only to find out she'd pre cancerous cells and had to had part of her cervix removed. Fortunately it was caught early but the message for me rings clear to attend all screenings! I'm so glad my friend went in the end if she had of left it later his only knows how bad or could have been.

The vaccination only protects you from the two main types of the HPV virus associated with cervical cancer. I hope your school have communicated this. You will still be able to contract other types of HPV that could also lead to cell changes and will still need to have smear tests throughout your life. Hopefully you know all of this, but though I would comment just in case you/other viewers are not aware.

+Jaydyn Edwards That's so much better. Here in the UK we have them every three years from 25 onwards. I'm 24 and I've never had one. The worst thing is, if you show certain signs, the NHS will still try every route before giving in and giving you a smear test. So our only option is to go private, but unfortunately people don't because we trust the doctor that's treating us and if they say we don't need one, we tend to believe them!

My mom had cervical cancer, and had to go through operation, cemo and radiation. She survived but the treatment had side effects, so I have seen firsthand what can happened if you don't get check-ups. I had my first test done when i was 22 and again when I was 25. Luckily Denmark has free health care so I didn't have to pay anything, otherwise I might not have gone.

After having my son, at my 6 months check up my pap said abnormal, high HPV and Abnormal cells. I haven't felt right after having my son and doctors didn't believe me.
Almost 3 YEARS LATER I found that in my medical chart! The office forgot to call me 3 years ago and now I'm having all the horrible symptoms of cervical cancer. Please please don't leave it up to these damn offices to keep up on your stuff. If I didn't stick to my gut I would be dead. Still highly likely it's cervical cancer just waiting for confirmation at this point but I wouldn't be shocked. I have a horrible immune system (immune disorder) so it likely didn't kill anything but helping the pre-cancer that was actually found 3 years ago and nobody called or did anything. I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. Both my father and step father passed away from cancer while I was a child and teenager. Is a smear test the same thing as what we call a Pap smear in the US?

+siti imanina No I didn't. It doesn't sound like anything connected with cancer more like an infection if anything. If you're worried go and see your GP, tell him you're worries and let him run some tests. Hope you'll be ok. ❤

Got the jab and meningitis jab soon. I hate needles but it's better than a lifetime condition.

Never had a smear & never check for lumps will i lost my friend 6 months ago to breast cancer she went through treatment she didn't want but was made to feel bad by the doctors, they used emotional blackmail so she went through hell even though she said it will come back & she was right. So even after a gruelling horrible treatment it came back but 2nd time she refused treatment as she said this is my time to go,plus as an animal lover didn't want to support cancer research uk & asked instead of flowers for friends to donate to her fav cat rescue & Peta in the uk they are about to build a hell hole where 3,000 loving beagles will be breed for use in cancer & other research these dogs will never see daylight feel grass & worse will never know Love only pain.As they will be given cancer they will suffer a long painful death so the human race can cure anther disease,my gran had cancer but said "we all have to go some too soon some like me had a full life but for every cancer they cure an other illness will take its place it's called life we live we die" my gran summoned it up perfectly just wish my Gp would stop sending smear letters & understand the word NO as never had one & never will it's my choice but each to their own
