I think this is a lovely whisky and would recommend it to anyone. Mmm maybe not an alcoholic though, or a pregnant woman or a school kid 🤔. I find your appraisal to be pretty much spot on. A fair score for a good scotch 👍
I think benromach has become my favourite distillery, and i have only tried two of their whiskies. The 2012 batch 3 csv and a 12 year old single bourbon cask. But both we're extremely well priced for the contents, and they have such complexity of flavour that it tastes like nothing else. I have got hold of some springbank 10 and I think compared to the 10 csv which is only 5 quid more id rather have the benromach
Hey Geoff I did pick it up based on your recommendation last year. Definitely became a favorite of mine!.... Goshhh dry month s*cks 😂😅 Thanks for a great review again! Cheers my friend! Have a great week! 🥃🥃
Well, you just conviced me....have to order a bottle right now. Have hade a few Benromach, and the 2012 Cask Strength is fantastic...so I'm looking forward to this one. Cheers
Sweet. I got a bottle of this for $60 us before taxes. Not bad. I hope to get the same tasting notes and enjoyment. I do agree on the branding. Very Soviet like. Loved that Springbank banter in the beginning.
Just tasted this.. amazing , could i prefer it over the Sanaig??? Hmmmm. Better with a drop or two of water and a little time in the glass. I for one love the new look and Font. Bold and Brutalist 🙂
I bought a few bottles of the peated contrasts a few years ago, had to check as they are both still in boxes and not opened yet. both mine are Bourbon barrel finished an 11 year old with 35 peat PPM and the other a 9 year old with 55 peat PPM....also have the Organic to contrast zero, 35 and 55 peat ppms....one of these days....
I bought a bottle of this a few weeks ago. Perhaps the CS is still my favourite Benromach, but this is also pretty damn good. Thanks for a great review!
Bought and tried Benromach CS (first Benromach I tried). It was good, but not entirely for me I think. I found it similar to Highland Park Dragon Legend, and didn't find it very similar to Springbank (which is also not one of my favourites, after a sample try). That said, I've not tried it more than once or twice yet and will leave the final verdict for when I've got around 1/3 down the bottle
Benromach is in my top 10 distilleries list. I haven't tried the core range 43% ones, but I like the contrasts Benromachs. I have the bourbon cask finished peat smoke and the cara gold and both are excellent whiskies at affordable prices. Unfortunately, when I went looking for the sherry cask finished one a couple of months ago it was all sold out. Cheers!
I have this release and it certainly hits the spot. Compared to the 2012 CS it is dirtier/funkier which gives it its own personality. I love both releases and agree that the value proposition is excellent. Firm favourites ❤
Hi Geoff I also bought this after your recommendation last year. Nearly finished the bottle and would definitely buy again. This is absolutely in my top five whiskies so far for the year, and yes, good value …… even in my region.
I went to the Benromach Distillery 4 weeks ago with the specific intention of trying this particular bottle and it was the only one not available on the day! 😩 I tried most of the others though, which I enjoyed very much. Surprisingly, the Contrasts Organic release was the one that exceeded my expectations most of the 5 or 6 I tried. Still waiting to try the peated sherry…😕
@@Gwhisky it was. Aside from the whisky tasting flights, (which were very reasonably priced), the distillery is very picturesque and also has a great story. Well worth a visit! 🙂🥃
Hello Geoff, once again you watered my Mouth with a Bottle i got still closed and waiting to be getting drunk or be a really good Reason for beeing drunk. 😅 Btw. last Weekend i tried the Standard 21yo and i found it delicious, just like everything i tried so far from Benromach. Thanks for sharing your Thoughts and Opinion about this Expression. Greetings from Germany 😎🤘
No no no, Geoff don't be fighting now with a SB Geoff. Those guys are dangerously married to SB. As for this review, great stuff as usual. I have tried the Peat Smoke and love it. I have Peat Smoke Sherry on the shelf to try next. I also grabbed the 15 recently as you had great things to say about it. I agree, I think the experimental series needs to be regular part of the core range. Cheers!
Hi Geoff. For me Benromach put out a good range of good quality malts at decent prices that are mostly widely available. Thats why Benromach are my favourite distillery. Of course with the contrast series range there not afraid to experiment. Enjoyed the video 👍 Slàinte Geoff 🥃
A bit to much peat for me. I’m looking at expanding my tolerance for peat though I’ve really been enjoying the lagavulin 16 and am looking for other bottles a tad above that smoke level to give them a try. Great review on this bottle. Enjoy!!
Thanks for reviewing Geoff Great stuff. They only made one mistake ... you know, almost at the end the ruined it 😉 For the record, I don't care about the branding... for I do not care about branding anyway. Slàinte mhath
Honestly, I was quick to buy this one because of your and others' reviews of the full sherry cask matured version, but I found this one to be disappointing. I can't get over the cherry cough syrup flavor. I want to like it so bad, but that flavour just keeps hitting me 😢
I finished the 2021 a while ago and it was a limited run. Not sure if they put out a 2022, but it's possible. Sadly I don't think a side-by-side is in the cards. Cheers. 🥃
How do you know there’s no coloring added, if it doesn’t state it on the bottle or box? I know its Brown Foreman siblings don’t add color to their scotch, but I would need to at least read on their web site that they don’t add caramel color. I’m so spoiled by bourbon regulations regarding additives.
Oh no does this mean Tank Top Geoff is dead??!! It's so hard to beat Benromach at value and it makes you think. They clearly use superior casks and do make great quality whisky which they can sell at a very reasonable price so why, why would we want to pay more and more everyday for the other brands? Delicious dram, brilliant video, cheers 🥃
Great review! Any point in grabbing this one when you already have a couple of sherried peated whiskies? Is it "more of the same" or does it fill a gap in the sherried peated whisky spectrum?
I’ve never seen any of the Contrasts or the Cask Strengths in my area or at the online retainers that I frequent. I’m thinking these are not available in the USA…..I just might have to write a strongly worded email to Benromach. 😂
I know it's sold in the states, but they do have some market-specific expressions. Hopefully you guys get more of these in the future. Beautiful whiskies. 🥃
Did you find it took a while for this one to open up, G? I ask because I was super excited when I bought this bottle as I typically love sherry + peat combos, but I just haven't connected with it for some reason. Maybe Benromach just isn't my thing or maybe I need to be a bit more patient....
Hmm. I don't think this bottle needs to open up, as it's been pretty consistent for me. Sadly this might just be one you aren't going to connect with. That said, fingers crossed it improves for you! 🤞
Geoff- on 2x time speed or now wanting to be a chipmunk? lol. So funny. You be trying to fit soooo much into the average whisky drunk’s head. Nice speed.
I've never understood how everyone thinks Benromach is anything like Springbank. Maybe in theory, but not in practice. Springbank is obviously vastly superior, but the character of benromach is soapy, and muddy and very distinctly ... benromach.
I get the comparison, but it's only a mild similarity for me, and I hear it being said too often that I think it does a disservice to both brands, which are distinctive and delicious in their own way. 🥃
I can´t help myself, but compared to CS versions of Benromach (all editions of 10yo, especially magnificent 100° Proof) it is not that interesting. Benromach is one of those distilleries which has stunning cask strength whiskies, but only slightly above average sub-50% ABV ones.
I think this is a lovely whisky and would recommend it to anyone. Mmm maybe not an alcoholic though, or a pregnant woman or a school kid 🤔. I find your appraisal to be pretty much spot on. A fair score for a good scotch 👍
As a pregnant, alcoholic student, I've taken your advice and avoided this whisky.
Which whiskey should I drink instead?
@@elburto5387 Forget the Edradour I’m afraid it’s Evian for you!

Great review and I pretty much agree with all you said. Over the years I've picked up some single cask exclusives as well and they're very good.
I like my $70 Peat Smoke 2009. Will have to try the Sherry Cask finished.
Outstanding February idea!
Thank you for nice review. I have two bottles of this and will open one real soon.
Nice! Enjoy! 🥃

Tried this on the weekend at a local whisky festival. Was very impressed with it. Another great offering from Benromach. Great video Jeff.
Glad you enjoyed. Thanks for watching! 🥃
Fantastic video! Thank you
Thanks for watching, John! 🥃
I wish my market had benromach. They could do abv like Arran all range.

It's a mainland style of peat that's different from most "heavy-hitter" peated whiskies, so I think there's room for it. 🥃
Peat sherry bomb cask strength are my favs - any recommendations regardless of cost?
Let everybody else rave about Springbank and keep Benromach to ourselves 🤬
